A 2022 Ford Transit box truck becomes a fully off-grid tiny home in this detailed camper conversion tour, with square walls, smart storage, and a huge rear patio that turns a work truck into a livable retreat. Hunter walks through the exterior upgrades, including vivid vinyl wrap, dropout steps, Falcon Wildpeak tires, utility access boxes, and a roof-mounted mini split condenser hidden for heating and cooling.

Inside, the build feels more like a luxury studio apartment than a camper. There’s a 24x42 shower with a combo closet toilet, fold-down teak sink, Corian counters, a Dometic fridge, a microwave, and a pull-out couch that converts into a Murphy bed with a built-in TV. The electrical setup is just as impressive, with a 48V system, two EG4 batteries for 10kWh of storage, Victron DC-to-DC charging, an EG4 3000W all-in-one inverter, and 1,000 watts of solar on the roof.

This box truck camper conversion also packs in a 38-gallon water tank, Isotemp water heater, LED lighting, privacy features, and rear patio functionality for bikes or outdoor lounging. It’s a strong example of DIY RV electrical, stealth tiny home design, and off-grid van life engineering.

Perfect for fans of box truck camper conversion tours, Ford Transit tiny homes, off-grid RV builds, DIY camper van tours, and luxury van life ideas. If you enjoy tiny house design, RV electrical systems, and creative camper conversions, this build offers plenty of storage, comfort, and solar-powered inspiration.

00:15This is Patrick from New Jersey's Outdoor Adventures YouTube channel. Today I have
00:19Hunter back on the show. He's going to give us a full tour of this Ford Transit
00:23cutaway box truck camper conversion and this thing is incredible. So join us for
00:28a tour. I'll show you back here to channel Patrick. I'd like to show you this van. Paul and I
00:33worked
00:33on it. He did the interior and exterior. I did electrical and plumbing. Paul's goal with this
00:38van was to build out a box van. It's a 2022 Transit. He was looking for something that would provide
00:44the
00:44square footage and the durability. The exterior here, it has vivid vinyl wrap. Down below we have
00:53dropout steps for the entryway. We have side steps here and then all the way around we have Falcon
01:01Wild Peak tires and then up top we have access from a side step to utility boxes and they help
01:11hide the
01:13mini split condenser that's mounted center on top for the heating and cooling of the van. Underneath
01:19that we have a full light bar. We have another utility one on this side and more access to this
01:28side so you can open it up and get up here without a ladder just to access small things.
01:40We have windows that are both vented and opening on both driver and passenger side.
01:47We have cargo bays underneath the rear corners.
01:54And then back here as it was a box truck it has a fold down door so that way it
01:59can be folded to the
02:00ground to get bikes and the other toys in the back and strapped down or it can be left in
02:04this position
02:05with the awning as a patio on the rear.
02:12And then here we have our water fill.
02:16We have another access door here and right here we have our 30 amp RV hookup.
02:23So I'd like to show you inside.
02:30So coming right in the entry door we have a shelf extension here.
02:39We have the mini split mounted up front.
02:43We have extra storage in the corner with outlets in case you need to plug anything out in the exterior
02:47of the van. And then right here we have a 24 by 42 shower.
02:54Inside of it we have the compo closet toilet. We have a fold down sink.
03:01A small medicine cabinet.
03:07A shower wand that can be moved around in temperature set.
03:13The windows in here crank out and have screens.
03:19We have flip downs to hold towels while they dry.
03:22Inside of it is all shower waterproof LVP for commercial showers and a teak tray on the bottom.
03:30Going here just to help hold it from moving in transit we have pop down snaps so it can't move.
03:36To get in the cab area we have an excess door here.
03:40That slides open.
03:43Provide privacy.
03:48Up top we have three quarter tongue and groove with integrated LED lights that are dimmable.
03:56To this side we have a full-size kitchen countertop. It's Corian so it won't move with moisture
04:02differences. Through it we have multiple shelves. Storage options here. Underneath here we have extra
04:09storage and it's also where the inverter is.
04:14Going above here you have a microwave and where you can store electric cooktop.
04:20All the shelves constructions are 80-20 with marine plywood in panels.
04:28Below we have shades that will raise and lower.
04:32Of course this window opens for ventilation. We have a towel rack here for hand towels. Another
04:38full-size window that opens. And then going down through here we have a couch that will pull out
04:45for comfortability and then go back to help allow the bed to fold down. Underneath here we have the battery
04:53bank and the water tank. We have two EG4 batteries that provide 10 kilowatts of battery storage.
04:58We have a 38 gallon water tank inside the van for installation purposes.
05:04On the floors we have L-Track on both sides to tie down anything you might bring in here.
05:10Then up here we have a full-size RV Dometic fridge.
05:18We have an isotemp water heater and all the plumbing is located below.
05:24And more storage up top. The water pump switch is also located up here.
05:31We have more storage above here.
05:38And then down below we have another built-in Murphy bed with acoustic panel slot with a TV built into
05:42it
05:43for entertainment purposes. So to lower the bed down you slide the couch forward.
05:55And then this will pull down. And if you want to keep your bed down in transit you can lock
05:59it
05:59with a small lock right here. You have another crank out window with a privacy curtain.
06:07You have reading lamps in both rear corners of the van. And you have the mini split control over there.
06:17For this bed all you have to do to store it just like the other Murphy bed is fold it
06:22up and lock it in.
06:24You can keep blankets and sheets and everything on it. Up above here on the exterior we have velcro.
06:31So you have a full-size screen here. And then down below we have a Laguna table mount, outdoor outlet,
06:39and a light switch for the LEDs up above if you need to do anything in the dark.
06:45So just to recap the battery system. We went with the similar EG4 batteries like we had before in a
06:5148
06:52volt style system. We also went with the Victron DC to DC Orion charger and the DC to DC converter.
07:01For the inverter itself we did use the EG4 3000 watt all-in-one system. So it provides solar
07:09input and DC to DC charging. With this fan we leaned on the side of solar instead of a secondary
07:16alternator. On top of the roof we have a thousand watts of solar which is more than enough to provide
07:21power
07:21to the aircon mini split which is inverter driven. So it provides all the heating and cooling within the van.
07:30So just wrapping up it was awesome to be back out here again showing you the van. Paul's thinking about
07:36building these in the future.
07:37This is more of a proof of concept and a project for him over the winter. So we'll keep in
07:42touch and let
07:42you know if we do end up building these in a commercial setting. Hunter thank you very much
07:47for taking the time today while you're traveling through New Jersey to showcase this build. I like
07:52the fact that Paul builds these and uses the heck out of them as a proof of concept to see
07:58what works
07:58and what doesn't work. I see a lot of elements that I've seen in other vans that you guys built
08:04in this one. One thing that really stands out to me is like this has square walls so it's got
08:10to be
08:11a little bit easier to build but it also allows cabinets that are fully squared off in the back so
08:17you
08:17maximize your storage. I like the fact that the whole roof is solar. It'd be nice to have a second
08:23alternator and a second DC DC charger if that's needed but I think with the energy efficiency of
08:29a mini split with the heat pump I don't think you need it. And if Paul Everett decides to sell
08:34this one
08:34and build more I'll put a link in the description so our viewers could click over. This is Patrick
08:39New Jersey's Outdoor Adventures YouTube channel. Thanks for joining.
