We put a massive king bed into a Ford Transit AWD campervan, and the result is a luxury-ready van build with a full shower, big storage, and serious off-grid capability. Ben from Ready Set Van walks through the Ford Transit 148 Extended King Highline in Trenton, New Jersey, showing how the layout combines a north-south king-size mattress with a dedicated indoor acrylic shower.

Outside, the build is set up for adventure with a Fiamma awning, Arctic Tern awning windows, 350 watts of solar, upgraded suspension, KO2 tires, a Flatline front bumper with a 10,000 lb Warn winch, and an Aluminess rear bike rack and storage box. Inside, the walnut cabin includes a gourmet galley, 15-inch Ruvati sink, portable induction cooktop, Dometic CRX80 fridge, hidden microwave, removable table, and a huge rear garage.

00:17Welcome back to the show this is Patrick with New Jersey's Outdoor Adventures YouTube channel
00:21back here in Trenton, New Jersey at Ready, Set, Van. Met up with Ben and Ben is going to give
00:26us a full tour inside and out of this Ford Transit all-wheel drive King High Line. So join us.
00:32Hey Patrick, welcome back. It's really great to have you guys here again. I'm Ben from Ready,
00:36Set, Van. We're a van conversion company based right here in Trenton, New Jersey. And we build
00:40on the Promaster and the Sprinter. And today I'm going to show you a Transit. So this is a Ford
00:44Transit. It's a 148 extended. This model is what we call a King High Line. And so what that means
00:51is
00:51that we've taken our normal High Line build, which has like a full-time shower in it, and we put
00:55a
00:55king-size bed on it as well, which has just been a super popular layout for us. So I'm going
01:03to take
01:03a little walk around the outside here. You know, we've got a Fiamma awning up top. We've got some
01:07outside scene lights for, you know, use while either parking and driving or while setting up camp. We've
01:13got a light bar up above there. You know, all of these are going to be controlled by a Switch
01:18Pro
01:18system that we have mounted inside, which is awesome. These guys decided to go with an upgraded
01:23suspension system. So we did a lift and spring rate increase. And then we also added on some nice
01:30tires here. So we got some KO2s and some wheels we got from Flare Space. We got some factory running
01:36boards here. And we also bedlined the whole exterior, basically kind of from the waist down here. So
01:41that's going to give it some nice scratch protection. And of course, we have this sweet
01:45flatline front bumper. I'm a big fan of this. It's got a 10,000 pound Warren winch here and some
01:52nice
01:52LP9 lights here. So this is a really sweet setup. I have this on the van that right now I'm
01:57taking out
01:58west. And that setup's been awesome. So really been loving that. Again, here are these factory running
02:04boards, which are nice. And of course, we have our Arctic Turn windows here. So these awning out, you'll see
02:09when we're inside, but they're fantastic windows and lights. And then we have up top our Orion awning.
02:15So we've got a 350 watts of solar up there. Of course, our air conditioning system, the max fan,
02:22and then room to bolt stuff down and all kinds of stuff like that. On the back here, they did
02:27a
02:27really nice luminous setup. So on the driver's door here is this nice big box. You can just get all
02:36kinds
02:36of stuff in here. What's nice about the luminous stuff is it's all aluminum and it doesn't require
02:43any penetrations into the rear doors. So it's nice and lightweight. And also you can remove it without
02:49damage to the vehicle. So that's the nice thing about luminous. This is like the new hot thing
02:54in town. This is the luminous. I don't remember what it's called, but it's basically a lifting bike
03:01system. And there is a DeWalt battery right here. And you just press this button and the whole thing
03:08comes down. You can load your bikes. It comes down to about here and it's pretty fantastic.
03:17And so this will hold up to about 150 pounds or something like that. And so you can get two
03:23bikes
03:23under here. You could get some pretty decent e-bikes on here. And what's nice about this is there,
03:29I'm going to roll this up and I'll tell you what's nice about it.
03:42Okay. What's nice about this is that this actually gets the height of the bike tray above your head.
03:48One of the things that I absolutely hate about some of the other rear door systems is that
03:51the bike tray ends up lower and you open up the back door and you absolutely dome yourself with this
03:56thing. It's horrendous. So this is right above you. So when you go to open this back door,
04:01it clears your head beautifully. I've seen people literally just get taken out flat out on the
04:06sidewalk by that on some other setups. So that's a really nice feature. In the back here,
04:13we've got these nice awning windows net here. So you can't open this that far, but what the nice
04:19thing because of the rack on the other side, but you can open it out and have it open in
04:25the rain.
04:25And of course it has a blackout shade and a bug screen built in as well. And, uh, you know,
04:31same thing over on this side as well. So it's a pretty nice window system. This is the huge garage
04:36you get in a King Highline. So the King Highline is, is, you know, named that way because you have
04:39a huge King size bed and you have a huge King size garage. So this is about 32 or 33
04:46inches tall.
04:47It's about 80 inches in depth. Uh, I can't tell you what this is, but it's probably,
04:51I don't know, four and a half something feet, something like that. Um, the other thing we get
04:56is we get some nice additional storage here, uh, past our, um, utility cabinets. Uh, and then of
05:02course we have all of our utilities in here. So you can see, we've got a Victron 3000 watt, uh,
05:07inverter in there. I can't reach down there, but we have all Victron components. I think this van
05:12has 1200 amp hours on board. So it's a massive amount of power. Uh, and same thing. We have a,
05:18um, a ton of water. Actually, I can't remember. I apologize off the top of my head how much water
05:21we have on board, but it's in the ballpark of 30 gallons. Um, of course we also have a four
05:26gallon
05:27hot water heater on board. Uh, you'll see the shower inside as well, but that, uh, four gallon
05:33hot water heater also feeds our outdoor shower that we have right here. So this is really nice
05:38because you can just use it to wash yourself off, wash your dogs off, et cetera. Um, filling
05:43and winterizing the system is incredibly easy. Winterizing is done by literally just flipping
05:48a single switch, some electric ball valves open and the whole thing drains out. So there's
05:52no RV antifreeze or any of that stuff, which I'm not really a big fan of. Um, and yeah, let's
05:58go around the side here and I'll, I'll take you inside. Uh, these windows here by the bed,
06:04you'll see them when we look at them. But again, these are the Arctic turn windows. Having one
06:08of these on either side of the bed is absolutely wonderful. And of course we have a CR Lawrence
06:12window here as well. This awnings out, uh, as well on the outside here, we have a nice
06:16fold down table. This is the composite table that we always make here that has a hard, uh,
06:22hardwood core and then two layers of acrylic on either side. All of the components related
06:27to this are all embedded and kind of hidden inside. Uh, and we make this on our CNC here.
06:31And of course we have this nice light here as well to help illuminate things. And there's
06:36magnets in here so you can put your, um, knives and things like that here. But then when you
06:40fold it up, the magnets line up and it just kind of works very elegantly. Uh, we've got
06:45a one 10 outlet here. Uh, this is just sort of an accent feature. And then we have a little
06:49bit of storage over here. And then we're right over here. We've got our, our dimmer, uh, switch
06:53for, uh, uh, for the table right here. We've got our, uh, this is our lawn seal vinyl floor underneath
07:01it is fully insulated and then actually the whole van is fully insulated as well. So all
07:05of the walls that you're about to see in here are made with a lightweight plywood, uh, that
07:10has either, uh, one to three layers of thin slits. So it's either an R5 to about an R15,
07:15uh, insulation. So it's really, really snug. And then all around in here, uh, is, uh, you
07:22know, a really nice setup. So these guys chose to go with, uh, Schiomans right here in the
07:28front driving seats. These are really comfortable seats. They kind of, you know, they, they are
07:34known for doing what they do. They're fantastic. Uh, this seat that we have right here is a
07:38new seat that we've been doing, uh, quite a bit this year. Uh, and this is a JMG seat and
07:44it is very, very comfortable. In fact, I have this seat installed in the show van that I've
07:49been driving around the country and it's been incredibly comfortable. Um, you know, above
07:53us here, we've got a nice, uh, headliner shelf. Uh, that's super nice. And then actually
07:58you can see right up under here. Uh, these are the controls for the exterior lights and
08:02then coming back here, uh, you know, in the sort of dinette area, you know, top to bottom,
08:07we've have our overheads here. So we leave this front overhead open so you can, you know,
08:12stash all kinds of things in here. And that's turned out to be a pretty nice little place
08:15to, to have there. Uh, and then we have a microwave in the rear compartment. It's always
08:20nice to kind of tuck the microwave out of sight because it's not really that attractive. Um,
08:24and then over here we have the other, uh, Arctic turn window. So, um, this is a really nice
08:31big window here. It awnings out, um, just like all the others. And I have to say like
08:37sitting here with this window open is like the best thing in the world. Uh, so I absolutely
08:44love this. In fact, right now it's a little bit warm here and just opening this window
08:47made my life a lot better. Um, up here is the blackout shade and then, uh, right here
08:53we also have the, the bug screen. So this is super nice. Of course, all our windows are,
08:57uh, all our lights are on dimmers. We have a dimmer switch right here and, uh, a lagoon
09:03table that is removable, probably stay here most of the time, but it gives you some flexibility.
09:08And of course the, the seat here that I mentioned. So this seat is actually removable. This could
09:13be popped out if you wanted to, um, you know, take it out and do some, you know, store some
09:18things here or do something different with the van. Um, and then here on the kitchen, uh,
09:22you know, they chose to go with a walnut interior, which is like, of course my favorite. Um, this
09:27table pops open and there's a little handle that pops up down right down there. And that creates
09:33this beautiful leaf extension. Everything we do, whenever we work with wood, we always grain
09:38match everything. So you can see the grain just passes right through, even through the
09:42wood block. And of course, uh, we have beautiful 15 inch rivati sink here, uh, with a flexible
09:48sprayer. Uh, and they chose to go with no, uh, built in induction cooktop, uh, which is increasingly
09:54a popular choice. People seem to be choosing, uh, to do a portable induction cooktop over the
10:00fixed, uh, which would be my preference, but we can do that as well. We can fix a, uh, cooktop
10:05in here. Uh, so they have a single that's just in the headliner shelf over there. And, um, what's
10:10nice about that is it means that you can have the full area here to do any prep or whatever
10:14it is
10:14you want to do. Uh, and so, yeah, so that's always nice. Down here we have a trash can. Sorry,
10:20the trash
10:20can's not in there, but trash can, uh, some switches for our, uh, water tank controls. Um, behind me here,
10:27we've got our, uh, CRX80 fridge and above that, uh, a nice big drawer and then some other drawers here
10:35as
10:36well. So, um, lots of drawers, plenty of storage. This drawer down here is very special. So this is a
10:43step drawer. So this is designed to be able to step on there and head up into bed. I'll show
10:48you the
10:48bed in just a moment. Um, and then behind this is, uh, an acrylic sliding pocket door to into the
10:55back
10:55into the garage. So it's really nice to be able to have access to stuff in the garage, especially when
11:00you have such a big garage, the stuff that's at this end of the garage is sort of, is sort
11:04of
11:04helpful. Over here on the wall, we have a bunch of controls and we have our dimmers here. We have
11:09our 110 outlets, also a 12 volt, some USB. This is the heater control. Um, you know, this is a
11:16switch
11:16for our electromagnetic locks, our heater switch. And then also this is the, uh, inverter, uh, control
11:22right above. Um, on the outside here, what's really nice about this, um, kitchen setup here is we have
11:29this beautiful roll F screen. So if I were to drop this down, you'd have a total, like totally
11:34sealed, beautiful screen here, which is just in my opinion, like a pretty wonderful thing. I love
11:39having the screen, not only does it keep the bugs out, but on certain times of day, it creates a
11:44certain amount of privacy, uh, which I think is, uh, which I think is nice. Uh, I'm going to fold
11:50this
11:50down. Um, and above us, we have our overhead. So again, grain mesh walnut all the way through,
11:56um, just lots and lots of storage in these overheads. Um, just, you know, it goes and goes and
12:02goes. Uh, so that's super nice. And of course we have our, uh, max fan above here. Everyone's
12:07got a max fan in their build and this, uh, set up, we actually have a linear led in the
12:12front section of the overhead here. Um, which is really nice to just have that right of the
12:17kitchen. So you have that sort of additional light, um, when you're doing that in the bed
12:21area, uh, this is the king size bed I was talking about. So this is 80 inches long in this
12:26direction.
12:26And I believe 75 in the width. This is just the biggest mattress you could possibly put in a van.
12:31And it's super luxurious. Like I, I really wish I had one of these myself. Uh, um, but over
12:37here, uh, you know, we, uh, create this head. Well, it's not really a head forward. It's sort
12:42of a sideboard, uh, that is, uh, fabric wrapped with foam. It's very soft to touch. It's like
12:47a delightful thing, um, to have, you know, you kind of want soft things near you when you're
12:52sleeping. Um, of course we have the two, um, 300 by 700 Arctic turn windows. Uh, the cross ventilation
13:00that you get by opening these windows while you're sleeping bed is like pretty exceptional.
13:04And, um, I, you know, I strongly recommend that to just about, just about anybody. Of course,
13:09we also have some lights down there at the end. We, uh, got some bed reading lights and then
13:14also more USB, uh, outlets and things like that. Cause, uh, everybody wants those. Um, and above
13:21me, we've got a 9,500 BTU AC unit. Uh, this thing produces a ton of cold. It's been fantastic.
13:28And, uh, yeah. And then over here we have our bathroom and shower setup. So, um, this van
13:34that chose to go with a, uh, couple closet S one, which is like a brand new toilet. Everyone's
13:40super excited about this toilet. I'll show you real quick. What's amazing about this toilet
13:44is it has a ceiling compartment for the rear section and then has a urine diverting for the
13:49front section. So, um, seems like the best of both worlds. I'll be doing a, um, tour on that
13:55toilet in particular very soon because I have one in my van. So, um, this interior, it's a beautiful
14:01acrylic interior that we just love because it feels like very much like a glass type shower in, uh,
14:08interior and it's very modern and yeah, I don't know. I love it. Um, of course it's hooked up to
14:13our hot water system and we have this teak floor and yeah, I don't know. The shower is something we
14:18absolutely love. And down here's where the, uh, heat comes out for our Wilbosto. So this provides
14:24all the heat for the van and, um, yeah. Well, Ben, I really appreciate you giving a tour of this
14:31awesome van creation. I see more and more Ford transits now. They're getting quite popular.
14:36And just so you guys know what's going on here, it's like 111 degree heat. Yeah, it is.
14:41There's fire trucks blowing by. Uh, it's hot. So, uh, we did this as quick as possible to get
14:47through. Ben's soaking wet. I'm soaking wet, but, uh, I'll put a link in the description. So our
14:52viewers can click over to your website to see about pricing out of Highline. So the Highline,
14:57it could be a Ram, it could be a sprinter and a Ford transit and it'd be queen or king.
15:03That's correct. Yeah. So for us, the Highline is sort of has become this catchall for like a fixed
15:08shower in one of our vans that has a, has an elevated bed in the back. Um, and we do
15:13it with
15:13two different bed size and we'll do it on just about any chassis. So, um, it's become super
15:18popular and I will say the transit has become incredibly popular recently. Uh, we started
15:23building on transit about a year ago and, um, I've been taking a transit across the country
15:27and beating the crap out of it. And I am super impressed by the transit. And I'm very excited
15:33for, I think a lot of people to discover the transit as a really exceptional platform.
15:37And when, if you go from the, the King Highline to the regular Highline, is it just the space
15:42in the back or is there something different in the middle? Yeah, that's correct. It's,
15:45it's just the rear section. So a regular Highline, uh, doesn't have the big long King bed where
15:50you're going to sleep North South. It's going to have a full size bed and you're going to sleep
15:54East West. And that's the only difference. So it's just the rear section, uh, that gets shortened.
15:58The front living area stays exactly the same. And on the transit, the wheelbase stays the same.
16:03It's just the extension from the back tire to the back. Yeah, right. Exactly. On a regular,
16:07uh, 148, you're going to end about here and you're going to get a little more than two feet
16:12on, uh, on, on the extended. So it's going to drive about the same. It's just going to have
16:16a little bit more overhang. It's going to drive the same. Uh, you're just going to, you know,
16:20the departure angle is going to be a little worse if you're doing something like really,
16:23you know, adventurous, but most people aren't. And, um, our experience so far with the transit
16:29is it's been, uh, it's been a fantastic platform. Well, it's a beautiful build,
16:32awesome color. I love the accents you did on the bottom. I'm a huge fan of Walnut.
16:37I got Walnut in my Airstream van. I got it in my Airstream Bambi. I got it throughout my house.
16:42Big fan. I'll put those links in the description. This is Patrick from New Jersey's Outdoor Adventures
16:46YouTube channel. I'll see you in the next one.
