00:00There's fresh outrage among fire victims in California after a California Post report that
00:05hundreds of millions of dollars sent by the federal government to help wildfire victims
00:08was allocated by the state of California to developers to build low-income housing.
00:13This has long been a fear among victims of wildfires that their neighborhoods,
00:17composed largely of single-family homes, would be replaced by dense low-income housing that
00:22is all the rage among housing advocates and environmental groups and socialists.
00:28There is, in fact, a kind of red-green alliance on this issue.
00:31Socialists like the idea of redistributing property from people who had it to people who didn't,
00:35and the green lobby likes the idea of dense housing rather than the urban sprawl that
00:39was typical of California's development in the 20th century.
00:42But it all leaves wildfire victims high and dry, and in fact, very few wildfire victims
00:46have received money from the federal government to rebuild their homes.
00:49All of this is going to create new pressure on the state and on the federal government.
00:53President Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress have yet to send new funding to help
00:57rebuild after the 2025 wildfires, and this story will increase pressure to appoint a special
01:03master or someone to oversee the spending to make sure that money intended for wildfire victims
01:08actually helps them.
