00:00And now we stay on topic because as Belen was saying, on Sunday hundreds of cities joined in act for
00:05democracy
00:06answering a call by renowned artists against the return of the far right to the country.
00:11She was at the rally in Rio and now tells us the story.
00:16It's one week until the Brazilian runoff and Sunday was a day of mobilizations.
00:21While Bolsonaro is gathered in Sao Paulo, almost 500 cities hosted acts in support of Lula da Silva's re-election
00:28and against the return of the far right to the country.
00:32Rio de Janeiro was one of them.
00:35This is very beautiful.
00:37Everyone together for Brazil, for the people, for democracy, for life, for human rights, for women's rights,
00:46for LGBTQI rights, for the forest, for everything.
00:54Our health care, the S.U.S. program, is a risk.
00:57If Bolsonaro comes in, he will cut the S.U.S., all the rights that women have achieved so far.
01:01So it's very important that we are here on this day.
01:04Following a far right win in the first round, demonstrations have multiplied.
01:08For many, taking to the streets is also a way of recovering collective struggle.
01:13Also not to feel alone, right?
01:14To feel that we are campaigned, to feel that we don't need to be afraid.
01:18There are people, there are people who will fight together.
01:20Whatever it is, there are people who will fight together.
01:23Sunday's rallies were called by relevant Brazilian artists.
01:26Gilberto Gil performed in Salvador, Caetano Veloso in Rio.
01:30Both were detained in the country's military dictatorship.
01:34And now they took center stage in the fight against today's challenges.
01:38Again, the scene for Latin America is a moment of resistance in a context in which the United States is
01:43once again trying to impose its limits and powers over us.
01:46It is an uphill battle for the left, with one week to turn around an election that will impact the
01:51entire region.
01:52Still, many are determined to continue fighting, knowing mobilization is key.
01:58I'm emotional because we came behind in the first round of elections, but we believe we can turn it around,
02:03that President Lula can win, and we will go out to celebrate this historic moment for Latin America.
02:10Belen de los Santos for Tell us of English from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
