00:00When it comes to marriages made in hell, you can't do much worse than the match between
00:03the immersive sim virtuosos at Arkane and Redfall, the 2023 live service Vamp'em Up.
00:09That's not just us saying that, it's the game's co-director Harvey Smith, who said
00:12recently that Arkane never should have been working on a games-as-a-service game at all.
00:17That was a game that did not come together, said Smith. In fact, it was the final nail
00:21in the coffin for Arkane Austin, which was shut down in 2024.
00:24The problem, of course, was that Arkane knew immersive sims, not live service shooters.
00:29The team was working on something that was just outside of our expertise, says Ben Horn,
00:33who also worked on the game. There is a silver lining, though. Horn and Smith have since founded
00:37Black Pony Immersive, and it sure sounds like they're going to focus on what they know best,
00:42in sims. Be sure to check out the full story on pcgamer.com and follow us here for more gaming
