00:32Political scientists sworn that AI could threaten the integrity of our elections and political institutions.
00:42Go to the Internet right now, and with sophisticated deepfakes,
00:50you will find it increasingly difficult to determine truth from fiction.
00:58And yet, as disturbing as all of that is, there is another even more alarming danger posed by AI.
01:12And that is, that if AI surpasses human intelligence, as many scientists believe could happen,
01:21this technology will escape human control with potentially catastrophic consequences.
01:32And perhaps the most important point that I want to leave with you this afternoon
01:39is that AI is advancing exponentially, exponentially every single day.
01:50In other words, what you are looking at right now
01:55is the least capable version of AI that we will ever have.
02:03The least capable, the dumbest version.
02:08The speed and scope of AI development in just the last four years
02:14has been almost beyond human comprehension.
02:18When ChatGBT was first released in November of 2022,
02:25AI models could write a short poem, a few tweets,
02:30and maybe an essay that sort of made sense.
02:35Today, AI models can already escape human control,
02:41commit felonies by hacking into other computers,
02:46and create viruses that have never been seen before.
02:51And my friends,
02:53if you are concerned about what is happening today,
02:59take a deep breath
03:00and try to imagine where AI will be five years from now,
03:0810 years from now,
03:1020 years from now.
03:12And to my mind,
03:14here is what is most extraordinary
03:17about the transformative and unprecedented changes
03:21that AI is making to our society.
03:25Despite living in a so-called democracy,
03:30the public has had virtually no input
03:34into the AI revolution
03:37that is transforming the world in which they live.
03:44Congress, under both Democratic and Republican control,
03:49have been asleep at the wheel,
03:51and we now have a president
03:53whose ignorance regarding this issue
03:56is truly embarrassing.
