00:02These puppies won't grow up fast enough to follow in their mother's paw prints.
00:07The track she raced on won't be open after the 30th of June.
00:13It marks the end of 100 years of greyhound racing in Broken Hill.
00:18The track is one of 11 slated for closure in New South Wales,
00:22including fellow tab tracks Musselbrook and Wentworth Park.
00:25We were handed a letter from the board with the decision to close Broken Hill on the 30th of June.
00:30So it was a very sombre meeting.
00:34It's part of an overall strategy by the state's governing body to reduce its racing footprint.
00:40But for Broken Hill, the repercussions are greater.
00:43Unfortunately, we don't have anywhere else to go to race.
00:46We don't have another club two hours away, three hours away, four hours away.
00:49The decision to close the track was ultimately based on injury rates and low revenue.
00:54We knew that the impact of that decision was going to be much greater to bear for the people and
01:00for the participants of Broken Hill.
01:02It spells the end of racing careers for almost all Broken Hill trainers and for their greyhounds.
01:08But most of the greyhounds here aren't competitive enough to be sold to other trainers.
01:13All of those dogs will need to be rehomed.
01:1570 to 80, maybe, maybe more, that have got to find homes, which is going to be hard.
01:25Greyhound Racing NSW says it will prioritise getting Broken Hill dogs into its greyhounds as pets program.
01:32It's hoped they'll eventually end up on someone's couch.
01:36I don't think you're going to have a closer to your right.
01:38We can reenact a back.
01:38It's not to be the only right at the end.
