00:00But about an hour ago, another interesting announcement was made by the University of
00:04Florida, and it looks like they have a quarterback change there, Joe, and a player, I believe
00:12his name is Trammell Jones, or Trammell Jones, and he is going to make his first career start
00:17for the Gators as one of the youngest starters in the history of the University of Florida.
00:23He is 19 years old, Joe, and he will play against Texas.
00:27There is certainly reasoning behind it is that Aaron Filo is hurt.
00:32There are some that are saying, Joe, that maybe this is a Wally Pipps situation for those
00:37who are unclear, or, you know, I should use the more modern Bledsoe Brady situation, where
00:42if this kid plays well, Joe, maybe they just run with him the rest of the season.
00:48Florida has lost their last two games.
00:49They haven't played well defensively.
00:51They haven't run the ball as well.
00:52This is a four-star recruit from Jacksonville, but Joe, 19 years old, making his first career
00:58collegiate start tomorrow afternoon.
01:01It's funny, Greg, because there was a serious, with Summerall coming in, the new head coach,
01:08these two, Filo and him, battled it out right up until the very end.
01:13It wasn't like Filo was given the job and this kid because this kid.
01:17It was a coin toss on who was actually going to win the job all throughout August, all throughout
01:26the spring meeting.
01:27So this is a kid that was neck and neck with him, and Summerall ended up going with Filo.
01:33Now, yeah, it looked great when you've got Jordan Barr that's actually, Jaden Barr that's
01:39running all over the place.
01:40But when he's not, Filo's not the guy, or at least he has not been that guy that can lead
01:46him, and they have world-class wide receivers on the University of Florida.
01:51Vernon, I think, is back this week.
01:53They got Wilson.
01:54They've got guys that are fantastic.
01:56He's not exactly been that guy to find them.
02:00So I wouldn't, yes, he's young at 19, but he was this close to being the starter for the
02:06University of Florida, and now he's going to be put into that position.
02:10And I think you're right.
02:11I think it's very much a good shot that Filo, if he has a game, especially this game, if
02:18he's able to go there and out-duel Arch Manning, who, let's face it, at this point is not going
02:24to be that difficult, and snap a two-game losing streak, this kid will win that locker room in
02:31big fashion, and that will be the end of Filo.
02:34Because I don't know how committed they were to him anyway.
02:36Greg, outside, he had a couple of good days there.
02:39Aaron Summerall just felt, because he was a little bit older, that he was the guy to
02:43go with.
02:44Okay, great.
02:45Well, it hasn't worked out exactly great over the last couple of weeks.
02:48Why not give this kid a shot?
02:51But I'll tell you this, they still need to figure out how to run the ball.
02:54You got to get Jaden Baugh back in running the ball against this Texas team.
03:00And as sure as I'm sitting, and you talked about wind, 20-mile-an-hour winds.
03:05We're going to be talking about a kickoff tomorrow there in Austin.
03:08So, somebody, and this kid can run, too, by the way, Joe.
03:13So, I would look for a different type of Gators effort in this game against Texas.
03:20And you know this, Greg, the best thing to do when you lose back-to-back home games is
03:25get the hell out of Dodge.
03:26Get out of the swamp and go where, you know, you don't have to deal with the crowd and
03:31everything else.
03:32Go there.
03:33Sometimes it's great to be the enemy.
03:34But I can tell you this, a third loss for Florida, boy, that Summerall didn't think he
03:43was going to be in that situation.
03:44And neither did I, to tell you the truth.
03:46I hope we see a different effort tomorrow by the Gators because a win against Texas puts
03:53them right back into the conversation here for an SEC champion.
03:57Their schedule doesn't get much easier.
03:59But they'll play the teams that they have to in order to be able to advance.
04:04Fingers crossed.
04:05I think going into the season, the expectations were not super high.
04:11You know, any quarterback play would have been better, with all due respect to DJ Lagway,
04:16who was just so bad for the Gators.
04:18I mean, like, literally as bad as it gets.
04:20I can't believe that he's playing.
04:21I think he's playing better now.
04:23Baylor, maybe?
04:23Baylor.
04:24I think he's actually, like, been okay, which is shocking to me.
04:28And I think Philo was an upgrade by default.
04:31Like, it's just like, this guy's not throwing five picks in a game.
04:34So, okay.
04:35So, like, this is better.
04:36But, Joe, the thing that, at least for me watching the Gators, and I think it's going
04:40to apply to tomorrow's game, I don't think it matters who's a quarterback for Florida
04:43because their defense has been so bad.
04:45They're just not stopping anyone.
04:47They didn't stop Missouri.
04:48They didn't stop South Carolina.
04:49And if Arch Manning throws for 300 yards and they score five touchdowns tomorrow, the Gators
04:54are going to lose no matter who's at quarterback.
04:56So, that kind of reared its head a little bit against Mississippi because the Gators won
05:02that game.
05:02It was maybe their biggest home win in years.
05:04But you kind of saw, like, they really didn't stop Mississippi either.
05:08And it did come down to the end of the game.
05:10And if this is the way they're going to play all season long, they're going to get bit.
05:13And then they go to Missouri.
05:14They get bit.
05:16I thought they would win against South Carolina, though.
05:18Like, I was like, okay, you lost to Missouri, looking ahead a little.
05:21Now, you lost to South Carolina.
05:24What does this game mean in the end?
05:27It means three losses, no SEC championship, no college football playoff.
05:31Everything is out.
05:33It doesn't mean the Gators can't have a better season than they had last year because their
05:37last year season was just so brutal.
05:39But if they want to stay in the mix and stay relevant and maybe jump back in the top 25
05:44eventually,
05:45which ain't going to happen this week.
05:46But if they beat Texas, then maybe a win against Georgia or a win against Florida State puts
05:52you back in that conversation.
