00:00Audio courtesy of TBS. Best thing about last night happened early this morning.
00:06You know what went down early this morning?
00:08Started raining.
00:10It's not going to be a fun end of the week.
00:13Sunday's actually pretty for the Browns game.
00:15It is.
00:15But these next how many days here, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
00:19it's going to be bad.
00:20Cold weather, playing outside.
00:23It's a 1-1 series, got the split down there.
00:26Got them right where we want them.
00:28Right where we want them, I'm good to go.
00:31How are you doing?
00:33You know, hey, look, it's, you can't win them all in the playoffs.
00:37They had won three in a row.
00:39They were four in a row.
00:40They were streaking in such a way.
00:43But you were waiting.
00:44What's so interesting about this game.
00:46Of course, in football, you have to win them all.
00:48Yes, yes, you do.
00:50What's interesting is that you're watching Tampa Bay,
00:53and I'm not seeing a raised team that is some colossus,
01:00seeing some team where it's like, start, dude, man,
01:02from the top of the order to the bottom.
01:05They've got so many minefields.
01:08This is too tough.
01:09And yet, part of me is also waiting for the top of their order
01:13to just start hitting home runs.
01:15And I'm like, hopefully that doesn't happen in Cleveland.
01:17It didn't happen, you know, the first two days in Tampa.
01:22So, I'm like, I'm mixed right now.
01:26I'm conflicted on the series.
01:28Obviously, we're running at an all-time high after game one,
01:31and nobody's going to stop us.
01:32We're never going to lose again.
01:33Yeah, I think everybody is just because, like,
01:35I had somebody who I trust very, very, very much
01:40who was saying, hey, they win tonight.
01:43He thought it was going to be a sweep.
01:45A sweep?
01:45Serious, dead serious.
01:47He thought if the Guardians won last night,
01:49it was going to be a sweep.
01:51It's so tough in baseball compared to, like,
01:55when we saw the Knicks sweep us.
01:57You know, we lost that first game in heartbreaking fashion,
01:59and then you saw they were just a better team.
02:02In baseball, the teams fluctuate from night to night
02:05depending on a thousand different things.
02:07So, a sweep in baseball at a best of seven
02:10just seems borderline impossible.
02:12Well, that's what makes the jobs of the managers,
02:15actually difficult, and, again,
02:17you have two highly respected managers
02:19who are managing against each other in the ALCS.
02:21So, I understand that baseball's done everything they can
02:24to kind of minimize the role of a manager,
02:27but, I mean, this is still the truth is the truth.
02:31And, again, I think that a lot of last night turned into,
02:36and I hate doing this, but I have to ask,
02:39you know, was there a blame in the loss?
02:42Anytime you have a loss, there's the blame game.
02:45And, you know, you won as a team on Monday night.
02:49I think you lose as a group on Tuesday night.
02:51Now, I know I have a strong affection for Jose Ramirez,
02:55so that might sound like I'm covering up for him.
02:58No, it was a bad play.
02:59You let one get through your legs,
03:01it ended up costing you.
03:03But I look at, hey, you know what?
03:04Austin Hedges had a challenge that he should have challenged,
03:07didn't challenge, people got upset.
03:09There was also, I mean, a situation where Hedges was leaving,
03:12so you had to take out Parker Messick.
03:14I mean, you had these issues that happened there.
03:16And, again, like Brian Rocchio, I think,
03:19is up there trying to play hero every time he goes up there.
03:22Like, there is, what I'm saying is there's plenty,
03:25I think, plenty of blame to go around.
03:26I don't know if we can just blame one person
03:28the way that we do so many times,
03:30or one entity the way that we do so many times.
03:33I don't know.
03:33That's just how I see it.
03:35I think they won as a team.
03:36I gave them credit as a team.
03:38They lose as a team.
03:39I give them blame as a team.
03:40That's how that goes.
03:41Sorry.
03:42Yeah.
03:42They offensively, it looked a lot more like the Guardians offense
03:48that we knew could rear its ugly head.
03:51So, you know, you weren't just going to continue.
03:54They led the postseason in runs coming into this game.
03:58Yeah.
03:59That's not the real Guardians, right?
04:00Can we be fair?
04:01That's not.
04:01It's not historically been the Guardians.
04:03No, that's not this year's Guardians.
04:04They have not been that good offensively.
04:07I don't think it's been out.
04:07I don't think it's been the last 10 years, Guardians.
04:09I mean, good God.
04:09That's all we do is talk about the lack of offense
04:11with this organization.
04:13Yeah.
04:13It was just, it was funny how everything came together
04:15over just literally seven days on the calendar.
04:18And then we had the best offense in baseball.
04:21So you knew that was going to come back down.
04:23And the thing was that you got, I'd stop short of saying like a masterful pitching performance
04:29out of Messick, but it was good.
04:31They had more hard hit balls than you did, but it was still a really good, when you get
04:34to this time of the year.
04:35Yeah.
04:36Against good teams.
04:37It was also a hell of an outing by Freddy Peralta.
04:39Yeah.
04:39Credit where it's due.
04:40He's been great with the Rays this year.
04:41Yeah.
04:42He was good.
04:42And it was tough because he was, he was flummoxing guys like Nathaniel Lowe, who has just, I feel
04:48like every time he's coming up, he's going to get a hit.
04:49And then yesterday he came back down to earth.
04:52He couldn't touch him.
04:53So there was a lot of frustration when it came to that.
04:56The Jose Ramirez ball, you know, this has been Jose's worst defensive year.
05:01I think since he's been with the team, right?
05:04Since he certainly since he's been playing third, he's struggled all season defensively.
05:10So this is where like, listen, a bad play is a bad play.
05:13I'm not going to take away that it's a bad play.
05:14I will meet some people halfway on it because yes, I have the affinity for Jose.
05:20I just told you about it.
05:21If it were Jody Arias, if it were Gabby Arias over there, I'm sorry.
05:26That was a slip.
05:28If it was Gabby Arias out there some way, somehow like, yeah, I'd be losing my mind.
05:32Like your history does play into how much you get as a pass in terms of those that I will
05:40admit, I will wholeheartedly admit.
05:43But again, I think that that conversation stops because it's like, are you in this position
05:46without Jose Ramirez?
05:47No, you're not.
05:48You're not in this position.
05:49So giveth, taketh away.
05:51And then you still have game three tomorrow where it's like, hey, Jose Ramirez can have
05:54another two for three, two for three game and everything's going to be just fine.
05:58And we're up to one on the series coming back on Monday morning.
06:01Yeah, Jose's just Friday morning.
06:02It's so he's been so instrumental in this whole thing, taking such a turn to where we were
06:07talking world series yesterday.
06:09By the way, you don't have to get off that either.
06:10Or that don't, I saw some people tweeting at us.
06:13You guys had the gall to mention the world series yesterday.
06:17It's like, well, you're three wins away from getting to the world series.
06:20No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
06:21There's not yet.
06:22Bob Feller doesn't care that I'm talking about the world series guys.
06:25So kiss my ass on Euclid.
06:27Okay.
06:27I'm not hearing any of that.
06:29I mean, you get to this time of the year.
06:30Yeah.
06:30You're talking, you're talking world.
06:31I didn't even see it.
06:32Now I'm mad.
06:32Yeah.
06:33You sit there.
06:33Don't tell me you're not sitting there thinking about world series unless you're closing your
06:36eyes and plugging yours.
06:37And then you're not listening to sports talk radio.
06:39Okay.
06:40Is that what you want me to do?
06:41Do you want me to be doom and gloom?
06:42So everybody is okay.
06:44No, you, you're three wins away from the world series.
06:47When you say you're three wins away from what you're three wins away from what you're
06:50three wins away from going to Costco.
06:52No, you're three wins away from going to the world series.
06:54That's what this whole thing is about.
06:55Yeah.
06:55And I didn't, I didn't think this was a world series team all year until, you know, probably
07:03somewhere between them beating the white socks and them getting that lead over the
07:09raise.
07:09I mean, that's how quickly things turned for me.
07:11I don't know.
07:11Everybody else that long, maybe some people were believers far earlier than that.
07:15No, I think that I think they might themselves have believed it, but maybe a little earlier
07:20when we saw how the playoff bracket shook out, that was probably the time where you're
07:24like, okay, well they don't have to, they don't have to face all three of the juggernauts
07:29from the, yeah.
07:30I mean, the only, again, really honestly is Tampa, the, the offense that you're scared
07:37of going to, they, it's not like they came out and blew their doors off.
07:40We had a bad inning.
07:41The entire, it cost the guardians in one bad inning and the entire crux of the crux of
07:48the, uh, of maybe what would be the winner of the worst of the bad take tournament for
07:532026 was that that person didn't think they'd win a game in the LCS.
07:58So when you win game one of the LCS, don't sit there and tell me it makes believers that
08:02not everybody again, I would have to think that that is lowest common and not, or the,
08:08the, the vast, vast, vast minority of people who may, maybe they were just in their feelings
08:14last night after a loss, but I'm not going to hear any of that.
08:16No, the baseball gods are not mad at sports talk radio show hosts for mentioning the term
08:22world series.
08:23Let me ask you one of the thing, you know, we were talking about during the show and of
08:26course we, we don't have, um, unfortunately the, the opportunity to see the lineups, you
08:31know, while we're doing the show.
08:32So that comes out later in the afternoon and then you start to early afternoon and then
08:37you start to react to it.
08:39Uh, I thought they'd find a way come hell or high water to get Bailey in the lineup.
08:44And obviously with it being Messick, that meant it's a, a Hedges game and you weren't
08:50really going to see him.
08:53So given that obviously, yeah, chase, chase the water is going to be your DH.
08:57So Bailey's not in there.
08:58No.
08:59Um, obviously had a, uh, had the opportunity later to pinch hit, but the fact that Messick,
09:06y'all 30, some starts, right.
09:09We're with Hedges.
09:10Do they need to find a way to, to, to, to get some other opportunities?
09:15Cause then this time of year, it's like, it's going to be Hedges.
09:18A Messick game means it's going to be Hedges.
09:19I'm comfortable with Austin Hedges being a catcher in a postseason game.
09:23Well, part of it too, though, is I, does Bailey, uh, challenge that, that play?
09:29I saw a lot of speculation there.
09:30And then do they only get one run?
09:32I can't guarantee what is the amount of challenges that each catcher had?
09:35And honestly, is there like a rate that you can do it with, with that, that parses out
09:40the games that he spent with us?
09:41Cause one was with us the entire season.
09:43The other one's been here since May, which I know is earlier in the season, but you get
09:47what I'm saying here.
09:47Like how, what is there a rate to it that would prove that he would?
09:51I don't know.
09:52Like, I can't answer the question.
09:53I don't know if he would challenge you more.
09:54I know the guardians haven't been good as a team in challenges, but I can't just guarantee
09:59that Patrick Bailey would challenge that.
10:01I think that that was people were maybe a little bit frustrated.
10:03And then it adds the other dimension.
10:05And this is something that I've certainly complained about this year that everybody
10:09seems to disagree with me about.
10:11It is, it is kind of unbelievable to me that we even have a challenge system when we can
10:17find out the balls and strikes instantaneously and that we have to leave it up to whether
10:22or not to challenge a play.
10:23Yeah, but that's, that's what I love though.
10:24I can't stand it.
10:25I hate it.
10:26No, that's what I love though.
10:26I don't love it at all.
10:27And last night, last night was a huge reason that I don't love it.
10:30No, it's the best of both worlds.
10:31It's, it seems pointless to me.
10:33Like, why do we leave any of it up for a margin for error when we can have zero margin
10:38for
10:38error?
10:39But that it's the best of both worlds to me.
10:41Like we can all see whether it's a ball or strike from the angle that we have.
10:45And that's like 99.9%.
10:47I feel like it's a game that's played by humans.
10:50Humans make errors.
10:52Humans make emotional decisions, bad decisions, good decisions, smart decisions, dumb decisions.
10:58And you have the help of the technology to help out the human decision.
11:04So it's still a game played by humans, not a game played by robots.
11:07Once the game is played by robots on the moon, then you can have all the technology you want.
11:12I'm, I'm not asking for the players to be robots.
11:14I'm asking for the technology that we have implemented that is right there to determine
11:19a ball or a strike to where in the ALCS, we are sitting there in a monumental part of
11:24a game.
11:24And I've got to hope that the catcher either guesses right or has enough challenges or hasn't
11:31guessed wrong already.
11:33When we have the technology right now to just determine a ball or a strike.
11:37Same thing I heard about AI tone said it was going to help us live longer.
11:40Now it's going to kill all of us.
11:41Apparently, what do you think about that buddy boy?
11:44I'm gung ho on AI.
11:46I'm not, I'm not, I'm not as nervous and Nelly as everybody else is.
11:50Oh, you like to make the old eighties pictures of yourself and stuff and put that on social
11:53media.
11:53I haven't done that one yet.
11:54That I have not done.
11:57It is very helpful in doing a lot of my research for the college football games.
12:00I do.
12:01I will be honest.
12:03It condenses.
12:05It saves me hours.
12:06I'm not even kidding.
12:07It saves me eight hours a week.
12:08No, it does.
12:09Yes, it does.
12:10Are you serious?
12:11Yes, it does.
12:11No, the hell with what I just said.
12:12I didn't realize you did eight hours.
12:15Yeah.
12:15I mean, it's.
12:15You doing eight hours for a four hour college football game?
12:18It's cut my workload by 75%.
12:23Which has come in handy with the wife.
12:25My wife is very happy about introducing that into the house.
12:29I'm not going to say that.
12:30And into the bedroom, quite frankly.
12:31AI is just, it's working, it's working wonders.
12:34It's a marvel.
12:35That's interesting.
12:36All across the board.
12:37We're going to move on from that.
12:39Unless you would like to add in something there, Owen.
12:41You got any commentary on that issue?
12:44I have not taken AI into my bedroom.
12:45Oh, wait, wait till you do.
12:46We got a premium.
12:47I mean, once you have premium.
12:48I've got that.
12:49I spent a lot of time with it, actually.
12:51Once you pit the AIs against them, you know, between Claude, Grock, ChatGPT, you start
12:59having them communicate with each other.
13:00Again, your wife's just going to be happier.
13:02I can only tell you that.
13:04All right.
13:04Todd Derry going to join us this morning at 720.
13:06Derry Brothers, Guardians cast.
13:08Also, I guess race fans have to find something.
13:11It's two likable baseball teams, so you got to find something to hate about the other side.
13:15But I want to know, is anybody playing a blame game after game two of the ALCS?
13:20Now a 1-1 series as it heads back to Cleveland.
13:23Six o'clock tomorrow night.
13:25Six o'clock tomorrow night.
13:26Even though I don't think the Guardians have said anything.
13:29Owen, did Gavin Williams say he was starting game three?
13:32Yeah, during the broadcast.
13:33During the broadcast.
13:34So Gavin Williams, it seems that he will go tomorrow.
13:37All but 100% decision made that he will go tomorrow for the Cleveland Guardians.
13:43A 6 o'clock first pitch as we get ready for game three.
13:462-1-6-4-7-4-0-0-92.
13:47Do we blame anybody for last night or is a loss simply a loss?
13:52And you win as a team or lose as a team.
13:53Ken Carman, Anthony Lima, take us with you to work on that free, absolutely free Odyssey app.
