00:00I loved the defense for most of the game last night.
00:05Certainly at halftime, the story of the game was the Bills' defense
00:08and what they were able to do to the point where that's what was being talked about
00:12on the broadcast when they cut away to whoever it was,
00:15McAfee and one of the McCourty's and whoever else was sitting there.
00:19When they cut away, it was like, Jim Leonard's defense is the thing right here.
00:24Puka Nakua catching 112 passes is fine if they all go for six yards.
00:30Really, it was Higby that was beating him over the top or kind of in the middle.
00:35In those gaps, but getting him for the 20-yard explosives, if you will.
00:41And Adams, twice, you'd let him get loose in the red zone.
00:47If there's ever been a guy with a specialty, that's his.
00:49What about him and Gardner Johnson?
00:53To me, that's not fair. You can't do that.
00:55You can't put Devontae Adams in the slot, match him up with Gardner Johnson,
00:58who did an okay job, but you're not going to win that battle.

01:03So you lost there.
01:05I think you lost to Adams and the red zone thing.
01:09But I think you won the fight against Nakua with a backfield that we've been talking about
01:15as sort of confused, if you will.
01:18And yesterday, my thought was, it's the D-line that's got to help out the DBs,
01:24because I don't trust, from what we've seen, even getting Benford back, who, by the way,
01:28welcome back Christian Benford.
01:30He was catching way too much heat the first couple of weeks when dealing with the likes
01:34of Nico Collins and Amon Ross St. Brown, and then you subtract him from the equation
01:39and go, uh-oh.
01:40And he was out of the lineup a little bit and came back in.
01:42But I thought a real difference maker to have him to solidify things back there.
01:46IGB getting the start over Hairston was a big deal.
01:49But I thought more than that, they just had a plan to keep things in front of them,
01:53very McDermott-like.
01:54Keep things in front of them in this situation.
01:56That doesn't mean that's the way you've got to do it all the time.
01:59But that is the way it seems you've got to do it right now as you're working things out
02:03in your defensive backfield.
02:04But I loved the defense until they got ripped through for, obviously, three straight touchdowns late.
02:09But prior to that, that's why the Bills were in this game,
02:13is keeping a really potent offense off the board, keeping them down.
