Leaders of the INDIA bloc, led by Rahul Gandhi, took out a march to the Supreme Court to file a judicial petition against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the SIR exercise. The move follows Chief Justice of India Surya Kant declining a meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, advising the opposition to seek legal relief through judicial process as the matter is sub judice. Leaders from Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, RJD, Shiv Sena UBT, and CPM joined the march. Rahul Gandhi urged the Chief Election Commissioner to resign, alleging pressure from the government. The BJP hit back, rubbishing the opposition's charges and asserting that the Congress is habitually blaming constitutional bodies for its election losses.

00:00So yesterday, the India Bloc leaders led by Rahul Gandhi took out a march to the Supreme Court.
00:04Thousands of party workers accompanied the leader of opposition, Priyanka Gandhi Vajra,
00:09Akhilesh Yadav and others as they went to file a petition against the Chief Election Commissioner,
00:14Gyanesh Kumar. Rahul Gandhi at a press meet had urged Gyanesh Kumar to turn approver.
00:19The BJP, on the other hand, has rubbished the opposition charges against the Chief Election
00:23Commissioner. Here's a report on the capital tussle on the streets yesterday.
00:39A week on the streets, a refused meeting with the Chief Justice, and now the opposition
00:45is taking its fight against the Election Commission to the Supreme Court.
00:49After CGI Suryakant declined to meet Rahul Gandhi and Malikar Jungkarge and advised the opposition
00:55to seek legal relief through a judicial petition, India Bloc leaders marched towards the top
01:01court on Monday to file their plea against Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar and the
01:05SIR exercise. The Congress, Samajwadi Party and Trinamore Congress leaders joined the march,
01:11with AISA President Neha Bora also accompanying the opposition.
01:15The petitioners include Rahul Gandhi, Malikar Jungkarge, TMC MP Shogato Roy, SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav,
01:23RJD's Tejasvi Prasad Yadav, Shiv Sena, UBT MP Sanjay Rawat and CPM General Secretary MA Bibi.
01:31The message is clear. The India Bloc is not backing down.
01:39In his reply to Rahul Gandhi and Malikar Jungkarge, CGI Suryakant said the issues raised by the
01:45opposition were already subjudice. Discussing pending cases in a meeting, he said, would go
01:51against the principles of separation of powers and judicial propriety. The CGI made it clear that
01:58citizens and elected representatives could approach the court for legal relief, but through the judicial
02:03process. And that is the route the opposition is now pursuing.
02:09You are the government. You are not only the government, you claim that you have perhaps
02:13the world's most popular leader as your prime minister. Every nation in the country bows to you.
02:19In fact, they're scared of you. So find out who's supporting us. If you're thinking that such
02:23large leaders are doing something anti-national, they should not be allowed on the streets.
02:29But before the march, Rahul Gandhi had a direct message for the CEC.
02:35It is very easy for you. Resign, get out of the way. No problem. We might even think of
02:42forgiving you because that will be a service to this nation. That will be a service to this
02:46constitution. We know that you have been forced by the prime minister, by Amit Shah, by Mr.
02:51Doval, by Mr. Adhani. We know it. And we understand the type of pressure you are under.
02:55And we are forgiving people.
02:58The BJP meanwhile has hit back.
03:30From the streets to the Supreme Court, the opposition is determined to keep this confrontation
03:35alive. The BJP, however, is refusing to yield, pushing back against the opposition's charges
03:41and questioning its political motives. The battle is now unfolding on multiple fronts,
03:46from parliament, to the streets, to courts.
03:52With Preeti Chaudhary, Shreya Chatterjee, Moshmi Singh and Maria Shakil, Bureau Report, India
03:58Today.
