00:01We're expecting to see extreme fire conditions today across Sydney and parts of the Hunter
00:07there with a high fire danger there as well. Temperatures well into the 30s, low humidity,
00:12gusty winds today could create very, very challenging conditions for communities if
00:16fires do start in and around the Sydney and Hunter areas.
00:19Really what it means is no fires in the landscape today. Nobody should be doing hot work so
00:24we shouldn't be having any solid fuel barbecues out in the open. No open flames in and around
00:29fuels because any fire in the landscape today with those winds and the high temperatures
00:34will get up and running very, very quickly. There's the very real potential we have fires
00:38impacting on the backs of homes very, very quickly if fires do occur. So making sure that everyone's
00:43really careful with fire today and keeping fire out of the landscape is very, very important.
00:47We think we're going to continue to see these dry and hot conditions coming into the summer
00:51period. We're not quite sure whether we're going to see some rain at the start of summer
00:55which might dampen things a little bit but at the moment very dry, very hot conditions and
01:01certainly dry fuels out there across New South Wales. We've seen our forests regrow from the fires
01:07that we had in 2019-2020 and so they will sustain serious fires this year if they dry out enough
01:13and if we do get fires in those areas. So definitely the potential for a serious fire season this year.
