00:00:43A first sprint and race pole in Singapore for Max Verstappen.
00:00:48And the question is, on the occasion of his 250th start,
00:00:51can he convert it into a first victory
00:00:54around the streets of this Marina Bay circuit?
00:01:02When I was a little kid, like three, four years old,
00:01:05I was running around in the paddock.
00:01:06My mom did a good job in go-karting.
00:01:08Of course, my dad got to have won.
00:01:10I grew up wanting to be a racing driver.
00:01:12Basically, my hobby became my profession.
00:01:14You worked your whole life so far already for this goal.
00:01:16Couldn't believe it in the beginning.
00:01:18Youngest ever Formula 1 driver, 17 years of age.
00:01:21You were born in 1997.
00:01:23Yeah.
00:01:24Jeez.
00:01:24For me, the age is irrelevant.
00:01:26Of course, you dream of getting to Formula 1
00:01:28and try to maybe win a race.
00:01:29The youngest driver ever to win
00:01:32a Formula 1 World Championship Grand Prix.
00:01:35I don't really care about this record.
00:01:37Once you're living that moment, you want more,
00:01:39you want to keep on trying to win.
00:01:40The most important thing is you have to believe in yourself.
00:01:42Every time I come to the track, once I have my helmet on,
00:01:45I'm not going to make it look like it's too easy out there.
00:01:47When you're doing well, I guess that's your motivation.
00:01:49I want to win.
00:01:50I want to try to do the best I can.
00:01:51You are the world champion!
00:01:53The world champion!
00:01:55I was up for it.
00:01:56I'm ready for it.
00:01:57I'm not done yet.
00:01:58Can we do this for another 10, 50 years together?
00:02:00I love to be competitive.
00:02:01I love to win championships.
00:02:03I have achieved everything in Formula 1 now,
00:02:05so everything that comes next is just a bonus.
00:02:09Passion is incredibly important to be successful
00:02:11because you're not a robot.
00:02:13You will always have days that you're a bit better,
00:02:15some days that it's a bit more of a struggle.
00:02:16Stubborn a little bit, yeah.
00:02:19You have to be stubborn.
00:02:21I want to win.
00:02:22That's what I'm here for.
00:02:23We always kept believing in it, and we never gave up.
00:02:26We will fight to the end, man.
00:02:28It would be a beautiful story if I could drive here forever.
00:02:33You know what that is?
00:02:35Simply lovely.
00:02:40Big day for Max Verstappen yesterday.
00:02:43The fifth driver to 50 poles joins an elite club
00:02:47that features Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher,
00:02:50Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel
00:02:53and his first, as I mentioned here,
00:02:55the Marina Bay Circuit.
00:02:57Just a tenth separating the top three,
00:03:00which included the two other Ferraris,
00:03:02and we are all set.
00:03:04The original night race, but for the moment, it is dusk.
00:03:07And we are 90 minutes away from the start of the Singapore Grand Prix.
00:03:14Hello, everybody.
00:03:15Welcome to Singapore.
00:03:17Good timing, as always.
00:03:19You join us as the drivers make their way out onto the track
00:03:23for the track parade.
00:03:25And there he is, the man that has dominated this weekend so far,
00:03:28as he did a week ago in Sepang.
00:03:31Max Verstappen, he took pole in sprint qualifying.
00:03:34He won the sprint.
00:03:35He's then got pole for the race itself,
00:03:37and he's looking, Naomi Schiff and Martin Bundle,
00:03:40for the clean sweep.
00:03:41He's looking very fast, isn't he?
00:03:43He likes the car.
00:03:44He likes the power unit.
00:03:45It has all the same feeling of last season, doesn't it,
00:03:48where Max got on a roll
00:03:50and started coming back at the championship leaders.
00:03:53So he's certainly the man to beat this evening
00:03:56and the team to beat.
00:03:57He is.
00:03:57This hasn't always, though, been the track for him, has it, Naomi?
00:04:00Why is that?
00:04:01Yeah, well, it hasn't.
00:04:02As you say, it's one of the very few,
00:04:03one of only two circuits that he's not won at yet.
00:04:06We know that over the last generation of cars,
00:04:08they really struggled with ride over curbs
00:04:10and bumps and things like that,
00:04:11so that is partially why they haven't won
00:04:13on a track like this before.
00:04:14But I think from what we saw in Baku,
00:04:16that isn't an issue anymore.
00:04:17Max is obviously feeling much, much more comfortable
00:04:19in that car and able to extract a lot out of it
00:04:22because he's confident with what he can do with the car.
00:04:24He really feels like he understands
00:04:26what the car's going to do,
00:04:27and on a track like this, that's so important.
00:04:29Only five people, I mentioned at the top,
00:04:30have ever got to 50 poles.
00:04:32It's a pretty elite club,
00:04:34but it was only a matter of time, wasn't it, with Max?
00:04:36It's an extraordinary achievement to, yeah,
00:04:38in the world-class field that Formula One always has
00:04:42and the cars being so close,
00:04:44particularly at the sharp end of the grid,
00:04:45to, you know, to always find that lap,
00:04:49find the clear traffic and not make mistakes,
00:04:52not break too late, not overdrive the car.
00:04:54It's brilliant.
00:04:54Just have a quick look at that stat
00:04:56that we've dug it out for you at home.
00:04:5812 seasons, 2015 was his first for Max Verstappen,
00:05:02first win in 2016.
00:05:03Lewis Hamilton, of course, started back in 2007.
00:05:06It's 3.96 to 2.49,
00:05:08and then you look at the wins under 6 to 72,
00:05:11where you can read them for yourself there.
00:05:12I mean, these are two greats of the sport.
00:05:14There's obviously a lot more for Max,
00:05:16but the way things are going
00:05:18and the trajectory of this Red Bull
00:05:20in his hands at the moment
00:05:21is right towards the Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli.
00:05:25Absolutely, and we know that they're in a tight battle
00:05:27with McLaren for points in the Constructors' Championship,
00:05:29and it feels like Red Bull really have the edge on them,
00:05:32and as evidence of the last three races,
00:05:34they're clearly one of the ones to beat now.
00:05:36What was really exciting yesterday was getting to see,
00:05:39you know, I know we put those stats up against each other,
00:05:40but to see two greats like Lewis and Max
00:05:43go head-to-head on track,
00:05:44and even in qualifying, I think we were all hoping
00:05:46that it would be the two of them again on the front road.
00:05:48Obviously, it wasn't in the end,
00:05:49but that doesn't mean we aren't going to get
00:05:51to see them battle on track today.
00:05:52It says a lot about the Red Bull team as well.
00:05:54We talked about Red Bull powertrains
00:05:56and straight out the box
00:05:57from a hole in the ground five years ago
00:05:59to where we are now,
00:06:00but, you know, continuing what Christian
00:06:03and the team and Adrian Newey had built,
00:06:05Lauren McKees is driving the best out of them,
00:06:09and I wonder if it could continue like this.
00:06:10It could be a great battle next year.
00:06:12You know, a team has, you know,
00:06:14well, well over 1,000 people,
00:06:15has a lot of momentum, a lot of skills,
00:06:18so taking a few people out or putting them in
00:06:21can make a big difference,
00:06:22so I think Lauren is very professional,
00:06:24very calm, is probably exactly the right person.
00:06:27I know that team Verstappen like him
00:06:30and trust him in terms of the communication,
00:06:32so I think all together,
00:06:35and you're right,
00:06:35the power unit has been very,
00:06:37absolutely outstanding.
00:06:38OK, short run down to Turn 1,
00:06:42175 metres.
00:06:44We might have timed this all right
00:06:45because the drivers just making their way
00:06:48down there right now,
00:06:49so let's join Jenson Button,
00:06:50who's alongside Ted Kravitz.
00:06:51Good evening from Singapore, Jens.
00:06:54Thank you very much, Simon.
00:06:56Yes, down here with the 2009.
00:06:57Formula One world champion Jenson Button,
00:06:59how many circuits at their Turn 1
00:07:01have a three-lane motorway,
00:07:03a three-flyover motorway flyover?
00:07:05It's funny because you don't actually see this
00:07:07when you're driving, funnily enough,
00:07:09but when you're walking the track,
00:07:10yeah, it's crazy, isn't it?
00:07:11It is.
00:07:12Right, talking about crazy,
00:07:13you drove here nine times, JB.
00:07:16You can now tell us,
00:07:17now that you've hung up your racing helmet,
00:07:19did you ever plan to go wide
00:07:22and then rejoin to the right of that there sign
00:07:25that says keep right?
00:07:26Because if you look at it,
00:07:27that escape road isn't such a bad option
00:07:30because it's quite tight, this Turn 1.
00:07:31This is an escape road, right?
00:07:33So when it's gone wrong,
00:07:33you're supposed to choose to go right.
00:07:35Oh, of course, of course.
00:07:36But I think we all learned from Fernando Alonso.
00:07:38He became very good at finding the quickest way
00:07:40around the racetrack.
00:07:42So I thought about it,
00:07:43but it just didn't feel like the right thing to do.
00:07:46So luckily I was always near the front here,
00:07:48so it wasn't such a problem.
00:07:50I could turn left, fine.
00:07:51Ah, you're always near the front.
00:07:52And what about Max Verstappen?
00:07:53Talk about being near the front.
00:07:54Here they come.
00:07:55Careful, Simon, right behind you.
00:07:56You're about to get hit by Max Verstappen.
00:07:59He's in an interesting position, isn't he?
00:08:00Because he doesn't have any support from his teammate,
00:08:03Isaac Hadjar, starting from the back.
00:08:06What kind of pincer movement
00:08:07might Ferrari be able to play on him,
00:08:09maybe at this Turn 1 at the start,
00:08:11with Lewis and Charles
00:08:13to try and get one of them in the lead?
00:08:14Well, Max has been on it all weekend,
00:08:17well, the last two weekends,
00:08:18so he's going to be confident,
00:08:19but he also knows their starts aren't the best.
00:08:22And he's got two Ferraris,
00:08:24which are the quickest starting cars on the grid,
00:08:26second and third behind him.
00:08:27So it's a tricky one,
00:08:29but they'll all be thinking on their feet.
00:08:30They're not going to plan Turn 1.
00:08:32Ah, look at these sweet cars that they're going around.
00:08:35We've got an SLK, we've got the Ferrari.
00:08:37That looks like a spider there with the convertible.
00:08:41They look in great shape.
00:08:43Gosh, they look good.
00:08:44I'm looking at the cars.
00:08:44They look incredible.
00:08:45Ah, Lewis's shorts.
00:08:46They're fantastic.
00:08:48Sparkling.
00:08:48I like a bit of spark.
00:08:49OK, all right, well, we'll see
00:08:51where the McLarens can go around as well.
00:08:53All the cars here, all the road cars going around
00:08:55on the driver's parade, Simon.
00:08:58Beautifully on brand.
00:08:59Even Max Verstappen, there he goes
00:09:01in a Ford Bronco,
00:09:03the modern edition of the Bronco GT.
00:09:06He'll be hoping he can go like a Bronco
00:09:08and get the win today here in Singapore.
00:09:11Yeah, he will indeed.
00:09:13It was very tight actually yesterday
00:09:14between Max Verstappen and the two Ferraris,
00:09:17just over a tenth separating all three of them.
00:09:19Let's go to the Skype.
00:09:20Karun is there.
00:09:22Hello, Karun.
00:09:23Perhaps you can explain the differences to us.
00:09:26Yeah, good evening, Simon.
00:09:27Let's take a look at it.
00:09:28Max Verstappen was on imperious form
00:09:30throughout the weekend
00:09:31and it was all about being tidy and clean.
00:09:33Watch the run through turn one here.
00:09:35Just look at his hands.
00:09:36He's not fighting the car.
00:09:38He's not overdriving the car.
00:09:39And I think that was the key part
00:09:41to him having the tires and the car
00:09:44underneath him to attack the final sector of the lap.
00:09:46In the early part of it,
00:09:47really neat and tidy here.
00:09:49Just unleashes the power
00:09:51coming out of turn five nicely.
00:09:53But when we get to the middle part of the lap,
00:09:55the Ferraris were extraordinarily fast.
00:09:57Lewis Hamilton in particular
00:09:58was really quick through here.
00:09:59I'll use the ghost car
00:10:01with Charles Leclerc just to show you.
00:10:03Look, as we get to turn seven,
00:10:05they're equal.
00:10:05That ghost car there,
00:10:06that's Max.
00:10:07But in the middle part of the lap,
00:10:09it's actually the Ferrari
00:10:10that's a lot quicker.
00:10:11They pull ahead of Max
00:10:13through all these slow,
00:10:14tight, 90-degree corners.
00:10:17The car we know inherently at Ferrari
00:10:19is very good in this type of corner.
00:10:21We've seen it throughout the season.
00:10:22They rotate and pivot well.
00:10:24But watch Max here
00:10:25through turn 10
00:10:26and then the chicane as well.
00:10:28Really hustles the car.
00:10:30The steering wheel is never straight.
00:10:32He's just working it,
00:10:33using every inch possible.
00:10:35And really thinking of his positioning,
00:10:37especially in the entry to turn 13.
00:10:42Little bit of a mistake,
00:10:44I think, at the apex there.
00:10:45Had to correct the wheel,
00:10:46so he dropped a little bit of a time
00:10:47at the apex
00:10:48and also on the run-up.
00:10:50Now, what's interesting for me
00:10:52is we saw this with Max versus George Russell
00:10:55at the turn 16 chicane
00:10:57on the Friday qualifying for the sprint.
00:11:00Turn 16 is where Max is mighty.
00:11:02And I'll switch to the ghost car
00:11:04just to show you.
00:11:04Watch his positioning.
00:11:06So at this point,
00:11:07Leclerc turns in earlier than Max.
00:11:10So he's gone in there
00:11:11with a shallower angle to Max,
00:11:13attacks that curb more than Max.
00:11:14You can see his positioning
00:11:16relative to the ghost car.
00:11:17But that compromises the exit
00:11:19and Max now comes out of the corner,
00:11:21just unleashes the power
00:11:23and accelerates out of it quicker
00:11:25and carries that speed
00:11:26through the final corner.
00:11:27So turn 16 is where
00:11:29Leclerc lost out to Max.
00:11:30It's also where Lewis Hamilton
00:11:32lost out to Max.
00:11:33So they were absolutely equal
00:11:35on the run into 16.
00:11:37But now I'll switch.
00:11:38I'll show you Lewis.
00:11:39Watch him through the 16 chicane.
00:11:42Goes in a bit deep,
00:11:43has a snap of oversteer.
00:11:44And then at that point,
00:11:46he's completely done for the lap.
00:11:48He actually had the best sectors.
00:11:50If you look at the best three sectors,
00:11:52it was Lewis who should have been on pole.
00:11:54Charles, without that error at 16,
00:11:56could have been on pole.
00:11:57But ultimately,
00:11:58it was Max Verstappen
00:11:59who was on pole.
00:12:00Back to you.
00:12:01Yeah, but the comfort will be
00:12:03Max Verstappen's start yesterday
00:12:05in the sprint.
00:12:06Very, very different conditions
00:12:07because it had just been
00:12:08tipping it down.
00:12:09Nevertheless,
00:12:10Lewis got off the line very well
00:12:12and the Ferraris have been
00:12:12fast starting all season.
00:12:15Let's hear from Charles Leclerc.
00:12:16Out on the track parade.
00:12:18Well, Charles,
00:12:19that was a heck of a lap yesterday.
00:12:20I was watching the Ghost lap
00:12:21and for much of it,
00:12:22you were going to get poles.
00:12:23So how are you feeling
00:12:24about your chances still
00:12:25from P2 on the grid?
00:12:27Yeah, I mean, feeling good.
00:12:29It's a good starting position.
00:12:30We'll be looking ahead.
00:12:33Obviously, Lewis and I
00:12:34are starting close.
00:12:35So it will be important
00:12:37to do a team game
00:12:38and hopefully take the victory today.
00:12:40Do you think you genuinely
00:12:41can fight for that win
00:12:42and how much is it going to depend
00:12:44on that kind of team game
00:12:45to try and take the fight to Max?
00:12:46I mean, we'll have to see, obviously.
00:12:49We'll do the start,
00:12:49see where we are
00:12:50and then if there's anything to do,
00:12:54we'll try and play that game to win.
00:12:55If there's nothing to do,
00:12:57then we'll just try to maximise.
00:12:58Have fun out there today, Charles.
00:13:00Thank you.
00:13:02Is it an advantage,
00:13:03two cars at the front versus one?
00:13:05It is.
00:13:06They can play games
00:13:06on strategy a little bit later on,
00:13:08providing there's a gap behind them
00:13:09to drop back into
00:13:10without too much traffic.
00:13:12And we know the Ferraris
00:13:14are fast starting.
00:13:14It's a bit odd, really,
00:13:16from Charles.
00:13:16He was really struggling
00:13:17in qualifying yesterday
00:13:19and then pops it on the front row
00:13:21out of almost nowhere
00:13:22and then says,
00:13:23I should have been on pole.
00:13:24Really interesting to hear him say that.
00:13:26But where it's not an advantage
00:13:28compared to Red Bull,
00:13:29same for McLaren as well,
00:13:31not Mercedes,
00:13:32because George is at the back.
00:13:33But if there's quite an early safety car
00:13:35and the two Ferraris
00:13:37have to come in together,
00:13:38you've got to stack them.
00:13:38Same with the two McLarens.
00:13:39If they're close together,
00:13:40they start to side on the grid.
00:13:42And then having just one car up front
00:13:44pays dividends.
00:13:46Lewis said,
00:13:46I mean, he was blistering,
00:13:48wasn't he,
00:13:48in Q1 and Q2.
00:13:49Didn't improve,
00:13:50as we've just seen
00:13:51on the Skypad from Crude,
00:13:52in Q3.
00:13:54He did say,
00:13:54this car,
00:13:55she's got more in her.
00:13:56And then maybe took too much
00:13:58change out of the tyres.
00:13:59That's the thing in qualifying,
00:14:01but different today
00:14:04in the race.
00:14:05Yeah, it felt really like
00:14:06it was Lewis's pole position
00:14:07to be lost yesterday.
00:14:09It was purple sector
00:14:09after purple sector.
00:14:10And as you say,
00:14:11maybe just there at the end,
00:14:12he got a little bit too greedy
00:14:13with what he thought
00:14:14he could get out the car.
00:14:15Maybe similar to what we saw
00:14:16in the sprint qualifying as well.
00:14:18You know,
00:14:18he had a great first two sectors
00:14:20and then at the end,
00:14:20had no more tyres
00:14:22because he'd overheaten them.
00:14:23So let's see what happens.
00:14:24It was almost a flip
00:14:25of what happened to Charles.
00:14:26But I'd be interested
00:14:27to see what they do
00:14:28when it comes to
00:14:28playing the team game
00:14:30because we've seen Lewis
00:14:31and Charles go wheel-to-wheel racing
00:14:33quite a lot of times this year
00:14:34and it'll be interesting
00:14:34to see who gets priority
00:14:35and when at which point
00:14:37in the race.
00:14:38Martin,
00:14:38it was just a year ago,
00:14:40maybe it was a couple of years ago
00:14:41when Lewis was on
00:14:42a run of bad form,
00:14:44particularly on Saturdays
00:14:46and everyone,
00:14:46well,
00:14:47quite a few people
00:14:48and some within our team
00:14:49were saying,
00:14:50oh,
00:14:50is he too old?
00:14:51Is he too old for it?
00:14:52What's he found
00:14:54and what do you think
00:14:55of the way
00:14:56that he's approaching
00:14:57his role within Ferrari?
00:14:59He seems to be grabbing them
00:15:01all by the scruff of the neck
00:15:02and saying,
00:15:02come with me
00:15:03the way that we used
00:15:04to do it at Mercedes.
00:15:05Is that fair?
00:15:06It is.
00:15:07It's also fair to say
00:15:08the hardest person
00:15:09on Lewis last year
00:15:10was Lewis
00:15:11in all of that time.
00:15:13He was really down,
00:15:15wasn't he?
00:15:16I think he went to a team,
00:15:17he'd been with only British teams
00:15:19up until that point,
00:15:20went to a different culture
00:15:21of Ferrari
00:15:22and he needed,
00:15:24he really needed to take
00:15:25an army with him
00:15:26to know how he worked
00:15:28and what made him tick
00:15:29and he wasn't able
00:15:31to do that
00:15:31and I think it's taken him
00:15:32a good year
00:15:33for them to understand him
00:15:35and him to understand the team
00:15:36and saying,
00:15:37look,
00:15:37this is what I need
00:15:38and also the 2026 cars
00:15:40are dramatically different
00:15:42and they suit Lewis.
00:15:43He actually never really aced it
00:15:45with the ground effect cars
00:15:46that were banging into the ground
00:15:48and the curbs all the time.
00:15:49We all know
00:15:50what a good guy
00:15:51Charles Leclerc is
00:15:52but how do you think
00:15:53that this has affected him?
00:15:54He's being,
00:15:55Lewis is ahead of him
00:15:56in the drivers.
00:15:58How do you think
00:15:58he's taken it
00:15:59bearing in mind
00:15:59he's been kind of
00:16:01Mr. Ferrari
00:16:01for as long as we can remember?
00:16:03He has
00:16:04but I'm sure that,
00:16:04you know,
00:16:05knowing that Lewis
00:16:06seven-time world champion
00:16:07was coming over to Ferrari
00:16:08it wasn't always going to be
00:16:09him ahead of Lewis
00:16:10and I think,
00:16:12you know,
00:16:12if there's anyone
00:16:12you want to lose to
00:16:13it's probably Lewis
00:16:14but it never feels good
00:16:16regardless of who your teammate is
00:16:17you always want to beat them
00:16:18and that hasn't been so much
00:16:19the case for Charles
00:16:20this season so far
00:16:21but let's not forget
00:16:22he's had some great results
00:16:23this year himself,
00:16:24Charles
00:16:24and yet again yesterday
00:16:26out-qualified Lewis
00:16:27and is showing great pace
00:16:28in that car as well.
00:16:29Two great drivers.
00:16:30Right,
00:16:31this is the plan
00:16:32before lights out
00:16:33here in Singapore.
00:16:35At 5 to 12
00:16:36we'll hear from
00:16:37the champion-elect
00:16:38Kimi Antonelli.
00:16:39You're leading the championship
00:16:41pretty comfortably
00:16:42you must be so
00:16:43satisfied with that.
00:16:45Yeah,
00:16:45I'm very happy
00:16:46with how things are going
00:16:47but of course
00:16:48the job is not finished yet.
00:16:50At 10 past
00:16:51it's part two
00:16:52of the racing bulls
00:16:53causing mischief
00:16:54in the paddock.
00:16:55Ask him to take a photo
00:16:57of you
00:16:57and you kiss your biceps.
00:16:59Oh mate,
00:16:59that's fantastic.
00:17:00Thank you.
00:17:03The pit lane
00:17:03is open at 20 past.
00:17:07Martin's grid walk
00:17:08is at 12.30
00:17:12and it's lights out
00:17:13for the Singapore Grand Prix
00:17:14at 1 o'clock.
00:17:23Well,
00:17:24the big talking point
00:17:25yesterday in the sprint
00:17:26was on the very last lap,
00:17:28the coming together
00:17:29of the two McLarens.
00:17:31Andrea Stella,
00:17:31Zac Brown,
00:17:32apoplectic.
00:17:33We'll analyse it next.
00:17:44Welcome back.
00:17:45big moment yesterday
00:17:47in the sprint.
00:17:48The coming together
00:17:49of the two McLarens
00:17:50on the very last lap.
00:17:52Papaya rules
00:17:52were not obeyed.
00:17:54Very,
00:17:55very naughty.
00:17:55Let's have another look at it.
00:17:56This was down
00:17:57at turn five
00:17:58and it was Lando Norris
00:17:59up the inside
00:18:01into his teammate.
00:18:03Let's get his thoughts
00:18:04afterwards
00:18:04and then that
00:18:05of Andrea Stella.
00:18:08Was the move on
00:18:09as far as you were concerned?
00:18:10It was all bunched up.
00:18:11Of course.
00:18:12He was stuck behind
00:18:14Leclerc.
00:18:15Clearly you thought
00:18:16the move was on though.
00:18:18It was.
00:18:20And I don't know
00:18:21any words from the team
00:18:22at all in the aftermath.
00:18:23Can you give us any insight?
00:18:24I apologise to them
00:18:25that one of the cars
00:18:27is out.
00:18:27But like I said,
00:18:30the rest of it
00:18:30will go with you.
00:18:32Seeing to McLaren
00:18:33making contact
00:18:35like that
00:18:36is simply
00:18:37not acceptable.
00:18:40This is something
00:18:41that we will discuss
00:18:42with our drivers.
00:18:43We will do it
00:18:44in private.
00:18:46We will reiterate
00:18:47that the team interest
00:18:48is far bigger
00:18:50than any of us.
00:18:52There's no ego.
00:18:54There's no person
00:18:54that is bigger
00:18:55than the interest
00:18:56of the McLaren
00:18:57Formula One team.
00:18:59This will be reiterated.
00:19:01I'm sure like always
00:19:02these will be conversations
00:19:04that will lead
00:19:04to the team
00:19:05being more united
00:19:06and even stronger.
00:19:09Went to the stewards.
00:19:11They said no further action.
00:19:12Not sure I've seen
00:19:13Zach or Andrea
00:19:14that cross
00:19:15for quite some time.
00:19:16They're hardwired
00:19:17to be racing drivers
00:19:19but they were fourth
00:19:21and fifth
00:19:22in a sketchy sprint.
00:19:23It's on the last lap.
00:19:24They've got Red Bull
00:19:26coming at them
00:19:26in the championship.
00:19:27I'm pretty sure
00:19:29Oscar did not expect
00:19:30the insider turn five
00:19:32to be filled up
00:19:34with Lando's McLaren.
00:19:37I mean there is a gap
00:19:39and if it was in a Grand Prix
00:19:40you would say
00:19:41Oscar didn't give him
00:19:42enough space
00:19:43and Lando was
00:19:44over ambitious
00:19:45and I can understand
00:19:46why the stewards
00:19:47said racing incident
00:19:48but from a team perspective
00:19:50it absolutely
00:19:52was a lunge too far.
00:19:54Can you understand
00:19:55though?
00:19:55I mean Lando
00:19:56went into the pen
00:19:57he took on a lot
00:19:58of interviews
00:19:58and he was extremely defiant.
00:20:00Would you have been defiant
00:20:01if that had happened?
00:20:03I think we all know
00:20:04what it's like
00:20:05when you get out
00:20:05of a racing car
00:20:06well actually you don't
00:20:07we know what it's like
00:20:08when you get out racing
00:20:08the emotions are so high
00:20:11and he thought
00:20:12the move was on
00:20:13else he wouldn't have
00:20:13gone for the move
00:20:15whether it was
00:20:15the right thing to do
00:20:16or not
00:20:16in his mind
00:20:17it was
00:20:18but yeah
00:20:19racing drivers
00:20:20have to think about
00:20:21number one
00:20:22in their world
00:20:22which is themselves
00:20:23but they also can't forget
00:20:25that they are hired
00:20:26by a racing team
00:20:26and paid a lot of money
00:20:27to go racing
00:20:28for that racing team.
00:20:29I wonder if he's mellowed
00:20:32overnight
00:20:33I'm going to hear from him
00:20:33on a track parade
00:20:34in a moment
00:20:34but I mean look
00:20:34that's it
00:20:35how will it affect it
00:20:36and what do you think
00:20:36for Andrea Stella
00:20:37these are the things
00:20:38that you know
00:20:39he seems to
00:20:39I wouldn't want to cross him
00:20:40put it that way
00:20:41he's a really nice
00:20:42mild-mannered guy
00:20:44until
00:20:45until he
00:20:46cross a line
00:20:47in terms of principles
00:20:48for the team
00:20:50yeah many decades ago
00:20:51he didn't need to put
00:20:51an exercise book
00:20:52down his
00:20:53down his round
00:20:54because he was going to get
00:20:55whipped wasn't he
00:20:56when he went in there
00:20:57I imagine
00:20:58Zach and Andrea
00:20:59really
00:21:01tore chunks out of him
00:21:02frankly
00:21:03because
00:21:04it just
00:21:04wasn't necessary
00:21:05and also
00:21:06this end of the season
00:21:08parts
00:21:08and cost cap
00:21:09because they're putting
00:21:11a lot of energy
00:21:12and a lot of attention
00:21:13into
00:21:14the 2027 car
00:21:16and that
00:21:16if you just got to start
00:21:17building more parts again
00:21:18and pouring money
00:21:19into those parts
00:21:20it's going to impact
00:21:21next year
00:21:22yeah totally
00:21:23and
00:21:23it's a time
00:21:25when you
00:21:25do normally work
00:21:26as a team
00:21:27when they're not fighting
00:21:28for a world championship
00:21:28are they
00:21:29or even race wins
00:21:30at the moment
00:21:30it's about working together
00:21:32to build the team up
00:21:33to push the team forward
00:21:34to next year
00:21:34to hopefully get back
00:21:35to their winning ways
00:21:36okay
00:21:36let's see how they get on today
00:21:38starting
00:21:39as they are
00:21:40from
00:21:40for fifth
00:21:42and seventh
00:21:42I should say
00:21:43right let's
00:21:43have a quick look
00:21:44at the drivers
00:21:45and constructors
00:21:47with either
00:21:48five or six rounds
00:21:50remaining
00:21:50Kimi Antonelli
00:21:51at the start of the weekend
00:21:52who's 84 points
00:21:53the gap now
00:21:54is 89
00:21:55between himself
00:21:56and George Russell
00:21:57who crashed from the lead
00:21:58of course
00:21:58in the sprint
00:21:59Lewis Hamilton
00:22:00finishing in third
00:22:01Charlotte cleared four
00:22:02so he's picked up
00:22:03an extra point
00:22:04on his teammate
00:22:05then Max Verstappen
00:22:06who's now
00:22:07seven clear
00:22:08of Lando Norris
00:22:09they were level
00:22:09coming into the weekend
00:22:11Oscar Piastri
00:22:1261 behind him
00:22:13he's a catcher
00:22:14we'll start
00:22:15from the
00:22:16back of the grid
00:22:17actually
00:22:18in the pit lane
00:22:19because he had to take
00:22:20an extra engine
00:22:21problems yesterday
00:22:22with that one
00:22:24Pierre Gasly
00:22:24with his best
00:22:25qualifying performance
00:22:27here since 2022
00:22:28Liam Lawson
00:22:29best ever
00:22:32David Lindblad
00:22:33is the head
00:22:35of the second page
00:22:36of the standings
00:22:37Oli Behrman
00:22:38the only one
00:22:38to pick up points
00:22:39he finished six
00:22:40in a sprint
00:22:40two to get off
00:22:41the mark still
00:22:42and that is
00:22:42the pair of Cadillacs
00:22:43and Valtteri Bottas
00:22:44and Sergio Perez
00:22:45in the constructors
00:22:47again it's a question
00:22:48of when not
00:22:49if for Mercedes
00:22:51143 clear
00:22:53of Ferrari
00:22:54but this shows you
00:22:55it cost them
00:22:56eight points
00:22:57at McLaren
00:22:58yesterday
00:22:59in the end
00:22:59and Red Bull
00:23:00are within 11
00:23:01and now breathing
00:23:02down their necks
00:23:03racing bulls
00:23:03extended their gap
00:23:05at the head
00:23:05of the midfield
00:23:05to 26
00:23:06over Alpine
00:23:07right shall we hear
00:23:09from the champion
00:23:10elect
00:23:10here is Kimi Antonelli
00:23:12talking to Martin Bundle
00:23:13early this weekend
00:23:22Kimi how are you
00:23:23I'm liking
00:23:23the sparkly cap
00:23:24I'm very good
00:23:25very excited for the weekend
00:23:27and it's going to be
00:23:28a very interesting one
00:23:29what a season you're having
00:23:30six pole positions
00:23:31eight victories
00:23:33you're leading the championship
00:23:34pretty comfortably
00:23:35you must be so
00:23:36satisfied with that
00:23:38yeah I'm very happy
00:23:39with how things are going
00:23:40but of course
00:23:41the job is not finished yet
00:23:43we just got to keep pushing
00:23:44keep doing the best
00:23:45but the goal is to
00:23:47win as many races
00:23:48from now until the end
00:23:49of the season
00:23:50rookie season last year
00:23:51looks spectacular in places
00:23:52difficult in other places
00:23:54what's been the big change
00:23:55over the winter
00:23:57having the time to
00:23:58look back at the season
00:23:59with time
00:24:00just also have a better
00:24:01understanding on
00:24:02the things that went well
00:24:04the things that didn't go well
00:24:05and also I think
00:24:06one of the main thing
00:24:07was that I understood
00:24:08much better
00:24:09what was good for me
00:24:10in the car
00:24:11or outside of the car
00:24:12both
00:24:12both
00:24:13mainly outside
00:24:14that then helps me
00:24:15to then get into the car
00:24:16and be in the right
00:24:18shape
00:24:19especially mentally
00:24:20I think
00:24:20last year
00:24:21I went in the car
00:24:22many times
00:24:23with the wrong mindset
00:24:24especially being too afraid
00:24:25to make mistakes
00:24:26I think
00:24:27the preparation
00:24:28that I've been doing
00:24:28with the team
00:24:29has been much better
00:24:30than last year
00:24:31so first victory
00:24:33in China
00:24:34how important was that
00:24:35for the season
00:24:36was it a turning point
00:24:37for you
00:24:37yeah for sure
00:24:38I think it was like
00:24:40a big relief
00:24:41thank you so much
00:24:42to my team
00:24:43because
00:24:44yeah
00:24:45they helped me
00:24:46to achieve this dream
00:24:47I felt like
00:24:49a big weight
00:24:49came off my shoulder
00:24:51because
00:24:51finally I proved
00:24:53that I could win a race
00:24:54and
00:24:55that helped me
00:24:56to just
00:24:57drive even more relaxed
00:24:58in Montreal
00:24:59we saw you and George
00:25:00fighting hard
00:25:01in the sprint
00:25:01and it was close again
00:25:03in the Grand Prix
00:25:04before
00:25:04he had his problems
00:25:06how has that been
00:25:07with George
00:25:08the relationship
00:25:09is strong
00:25:09we have a massive
00:25:10respect for each other
00:25:12and we try to push
00:25:13each other
00:25:14you know
00:25:14definitely
00:25:15there have been
00:25:15occasions on track
00:25:16where we've been
00:25:16racing each other's heart
00:25:18but we've always done
00:25:20that in a fair manner
00:25:22do you feel sorry for George
00:25:23the problems he's had
00:25:24this year?
00:25:25yes for sure
00:25:26he had the issues
00:25:26but you know
00:25:28I've also had issues
00:25:29I had my issues
00:25:30in Barcelona
00:25:31in Silverstone
00:25:32in Baku
00:25:33you know
00:25:33he had Canada
00:25:34he had Sepang
00:25:35for sure
00:25:36we've both had
00:25:37bad luck
00:25:38he said a little bit more
00:25:39I have to say
00:25:40but unfortunately
00:25:41sometimes it can go
00:25:42your ways
00:25:43other times
00:25:43it doesn't go your way
00:25:45and that's my mentality
00:25:48Monaco's a tough
00:25:49weekend to survive
00:25:50even for the most
00:25:51experienced
00:25:51the Formula 1 drivers
00:25:52you aced that
00:25:54from pole position
00:25:55that was something
00:25:56quite impressive
00:25:57yeah I think
00:25:58it was a very special
00:25:59weekend
00:26:00and I think
00:26:00in terms of
00:26:01performance
00:26:01it was my strongest
00:26:02weekend
00:26:03so far
00:26:03I just felt
00:26:04very confident
00:26:05in the car
00:26:05and you know
00:26:06the way also
00:26:07we execute the race
00:26:08with the red flag
00:26:09we had to do
00:26:09another start
00:26:10on the grid
00:26:10and that was
00:26:11a high pressure
00:26:12moment for me
00:26:12because it was
00:26:14still a point
00:26:14in the season
00:26:15where our starts
00:26:16were not amazing
00:26:18so and especially
00:26:19having Lewis
00:26:19with a Ferrari
00:26:20next to me
00:26:21and knowing
00:26:21how good
00:26:22their starts are
00:26:23it was a very
00:26:24high pressure moment
00:26:25so then to be able
00:26:26to overcome that
00:26:27and to then win
00:26:28the race
00:26:28was very very special
00:26:29and you win
00:26:31a spectacular spa
00:26:32from pole position
00:26:33on to Monza
00:26:35one of the greatest
00:26:36fairy tales
00:26:37in Formula 1 history
00:26:39Afiaba
00:26:40I think you called
00:26:40him in Italian
00:26:41I mean what a race
00:26:43what a weekend
00:26:44good pronunciation
00:26:44by the way
00:26:45thank you very much
00:26:46yeah I mean
00:26:47that for me
00:26:48so far
00:26:48is the most special
00:26:49win
00:26:50Monza
00:26:50I would say
00:26:52it's slightly more special
00:26:54than China
00:26:54going into the weekend
00:26:56I decided
00:26:57with the team
00:26:58I pushed for
00:26:59getting an engine penalty
00:27:01to change the power unit
00:27:02I didn't really
00:27:04think about home race
00:27:05you know
00:27:05wanting to start
00:27:06at the front
00:27:07you know
00:27:07I always thought
00:27:08about the bigger picture
00:27:09and I was like
00:27:10this is the best track
00:27:12that you know
00:27:13can guarantee me
00:27:14to gain as many places
00:27:15as possible
00:27:15so going into
00:27:17that weekend
00:27:18I knew
00:27:19starting from the back
00:27:20still a good result
00:27:21was possible
00:27:22but to win
00:27:23I never thought of it
00:27:24and that's why
00:27:24it was so special
00:27:25because it was so unexpected
00:27:27I think it's one of the most special
00:27:29podiums of the season
00:27:30seeing the massive amount of people
00:27:33that never ends
00:27:35goes all the way
00:27:36until the first
00:27:37and behind you as well
00:27:38yeah and behind you
00:27:39in Parabolica
00:27:39you know
00:27:40I have an incredible picture
00:27:41that when I go back home
00:27:43I will frame it
00:27:44and put it on the wall
00:27:45of me standing on the podium
00:27:47because it was such a special moment
00:27:49you know
00:27:49to see so many fans
00:27:51to see the tifosi
00:27:53you know
00:27:53singing the anthem
00:27:55together
00:27:56it was goosebumps
00:27:58it gave me
00:27:59incredible goosebumps
00:28:00how are you
00:28:01now mind managing
00:28:03the rest of this season
00:28:06you know
00:28:07it's not easy
00:28:08it's not easy
00:28:09because
00:28:10the thought of the championship
00:28:12is always there
00:28:12on the back of the mind
00:28:13but I have Bono
00:28:15who has a lot of experiences
00:28:17on championships
00:28:18so he's always there
00:28:19to keep me calm
00:28:20we just had a chat
00:28:21before
00:28:21at lunch
00:28:22about this
00:28:23how to manage this
00:28:24and
00:28:25you know
00:28:26at the end of the day
00:28:27the conclusion is
00:28:28you know
00:28:29you just gotta perform
00:28:30but
00:28:31the goal definitely
00:28:32is to
00:28:33try to do my best
00:28:34and then
00:28:36hopefully I can win
00:28:37many more races
00:28:38from now until the end of the season
00:28:39and then
00:28:40hopefully I can
00:28:41close off the championship
00:28:42we're loving watching you
00:28:43as much as you're loving
00:28:44driving the car
00:28:45thank you so much
00:28:46thank you
00:28:50we saw Lewis
00:28:51with his sparkly shorts
00:28:52maybe they're the sparkly shorts
00:28:53of a seven time world champion
00:28:54that's the sparkly hat
00:28:56of a champion
00:28:57in weighting
00:28:58as I mentioned
00:28:59with Mercedes
00:29:00Martin
00:29:00it is a question now
00:29:01of when
00:29:02isn't it
00:29:03not if
00:29:03for Kimmy
00:29:04as we're standing here
00:29:06right now
00:29:06183 points
00:29:08on the board
00:29:09actually minus
00:29:10yesterday's sprint
00:29:11so
00:29:12he's got a big lead
00:29:14and the great irony
00:29:15I think is
00:29:15if Max starts winning
00:29:17the races
00:29:19it's not
00:29:19Lewis or George
00:29:20who are the two
00:29:21closest to Kimmy
00:29:22so
00:29:23it plays into his hands
00:29:24again to an extent
00:29:25if he just keeps his head
00:29:26and keeps out of trouble
00:29:28I believe it's his championship
00:29:29yes
00:29:30so tell me
00:29:31what's impressed you most
00:29:32about the way
00:29:32that he's
00:29:33approached this season
00:29:34and executed it so far
00:29:36for me it's his pace
00:29:37every single time
00:29:39we go out
00:29:40it's unbelievable
00:29:41how consistent he is
00:29:42through a season
00:29:43it doesn't seem like
00:29:43he has any bogey tracks
00:29:45which most of us do
00:29:46as racing drivers
00:29:47that's the thing
00:29:48it's the consistency
00:29:49and the speed
00:29:49he has everywhere we go
00:29:51at this point of the season
00:29:53yes
00:29:53he can taste that
00:29:54world championship
00:29:55he can taste it
00:29:56but
00:29:56I don't think
00:29:57he's going to let up
00:29:58I think he's going to
00:29:59keep driving as he has
00:30:00all season
00:30:00which is what he should do
00:30:02as soon as you start
00:30:04changing the way you drive
00:30:05thinking about the championship
00:30:06that's when you fail
00:30:07so
00:30:08he's just got to do
00:30:09what he's been doing all year
00:30:10do you remember when you
00:30:11tightened up
00:30:11didn't you in 2009
00:30:13and that must be
00:30:14really hard to avoid
00:30:15it is
00:30:16and I think for him
00:30:17he's younger
00:30:17so
00:30:18he knows he's going to have
00:30:20other opportunities
00:30:20for me
00:30:21this is probably the only time
00:30:23so I did tighten up
00:30:24I don't think he's going to
00:30:25have that issue
00:30:26I don't want to come back to you
00:30:27Dutchie Jensen
00:30:28with regards to your dad
00:30:29was quite often
00:30:30he came around the world
00:30:31with you
00:30:32at most races
00:30:33the difference between
00:30:34the relationship
00:30:35and the fathers here
00:30:37in that George's dad
00:30:38when he was taken over
00:30:40by Mercedes
00:30:40at about 17
00:30:41he kind of stepped back
00:30:43whereas Kimi's
00:30:44is still here
00:30:45and I wonder how much
00:30:47he relies on
00:30:48and leans on him
00:30:49he's always in the back
00:30:49of the garage
00:30:50talking to him
00:30:50just prior to it
00:30:51I think it's lovely
00:30:53to see that relationship
00:30:54because I remember
00:30:55the relationship
00:30:56I had with my dad
00:30:57and the reason why
00:30:58we are here
00:30:59was because of them
00:31:01but my dad was a little bit
00:31:02more in the background
00:31:03it was kind of a soundboard
00:31:04if I had an issue
00:31:05whereas yeah
00:31:06Kimi's dad is
00:31:07on his shoulder
00:31:08the whole time
00:31:09but he seems to like that
00:31:10he's got a wonderful
00:31:12support group
00:31:13around him
00:31:13I completely agree
00:31:14with Jensen
00:31:15it's his raw pace
00:31:16he'll have won him
00:31:17the world championship
00:31:18but my takeaway
00:31:19from that interview
00:31:20was just the clarity
00:31:22of thought
00:31:23that he has
00:31:24on everything
00:31:25for such a young head
00:31:27really impressive
00:31:28to just listen to him
00:31:30analyse things
00:31:32strangely
00:31:33the bad luck
00:31:34and misfortune
00:31:35that George has had
00:31:36this season
00:31:37he's had three DNFs
00:31:38I mean he pointed out
00:31:38that Kimi's had
00:31:39his fair share
00:31:40of bad luck as well
00:31:41it was self-made yesterday
00:31:43it was a mistake
00:31:45out of the last corner
00:31:45when he was leading it
00:31:46and there's another air
00:31:48of resignation afterwards
00:31:49I think in the final
00:31:50reckoning
00:31:50he knows he's not
00:31:51being quick enough
00:31:52when he's needed
00:31:53to be quick enough
00:31:54but I wonder how
00:31:55we can turn this around
00:31:56for next year
00:31:57whether he's already
00:31:58thinking that far ahead
00:31:59George
00:32:00I don't think he will be
00:32:01he'll still be thinking
00:32:02about this year
00:32:03he'll be thinking
00:32:03about race by race
00:32:04though
00:32:04I think he pretty much
00:32:06knows the championship
00:32:07is a long shot
00:32:07and he's just got to
00:32:09arrive at the race
00:32:10and really understand
00:32:11try and understand
00:32:13where that pace is
00:32:14and why he can't
00:32:15find it like Kimi can
00:32:16is it confidence
00:32:17in the car
00:32:18is it the driving style
00:32:19there's so many
00:32:20different elements
00:32:20that could be an issue
00:32:23for him
00:32:24how do you think
00:32:25he'll turn it round
00:32:26I think George
00:32:27has got so much confidence
00:32:28he'll be just fine
00:32:30I think he'll find
00:32:31an overdrive gear
00:32:32that he perhaps
00:32:33didn't know he needed
00:32:34or that he's even got
00:32:35and he'll start
00:32:37fresh next year
00:32:38and I think
00:32:38he'll be a force
00:32:39to be reckoned with
00:32:41right
00:32:42let's go to a break
00:32:42whilst that car's
00:32:43being charged up
00:32:44when we come back
00:32:46a little bit of nonsense
00:32:47like we had yesterday
00:32:48with the racing bulls
00:32:51the good news is
00:32:52we're going to get
00:32:52payback
00:32:53they're going to
00:32:53instruct you to do
00:32:54things up and down
00:32:55this paddock
00:32:56it could be anything
00:32:56frankly
00:32:57tell her you love her
00:32:58boots
00:32:58I really like your boots
00:32:59thank you so much
00:33:00thank you
00:33:01there's absolutely
00:33:02no idea who I am
00:33:03high five the policeman
00:33:04on your left
00:33:05just give him a hug
00:33:07nice to see you bro
00:33:08thanks for your support
00:33:09this weekend
00:33:10thank you
00:33:10guys this is so
00:33:11uncomfortable
00:33:12trip but style it out
00:33:13by doing push-ups
00:33:14when you get to the floor
00:33:15I've fallen over here
00:33:16oh
00:33:17it's so weird
00:33:19it's just so weird
00:33:20I don't know
00:33:21what's happening
00:33:22that's so good
00:33:32welcome back
00:33:33if you would rather
00:33:34enjoy the race
00:33:35this evening
00:33:36with the F1 kids
00:33:38make sure you
00:33:39press the red button
00:33:40from five minutes
00:33:41before lights out
00:33:43so at 12.55
00:33:45now talking of kids

00:33:53at the back of the
00:33:54garage there

00:38:34Mercedes garage
00:38:35interrupted Charles'
00:38:36interview
00:38:40I was so uncomfortable
00:38:41it doesn't matter
00:38:43doesn't matter does it
00:38:43it's done now
00:38:46I'm so uncomfortable
00:38:47bro that was so
00:38:48honestly
00:38:48so tight
00:38:49you did it
00:38:50you did it
00:38:50you did it
00:38:50you did it
00:38:51you did it
00:38:52man that was so good
00:38:54Charles was like mid-interview
00:38:56and I've just grabbed his
00:38:57mind
00:38:57you should have kissed
00:38:58him on the cheek
00:38:58yeah
00:38:59you should have seen
00:39:00his reaction it was
00:39:01priceless
00:39:01yeah and even also
00:39:02when you walked into
00:39:03the moat garage
00:39:03you were just through
00:39:04mechanics and stuff
00:39:04bro they stopped me
00:39:06stopped me
00:39:06like I got into the
00:39:07garage and there was
00:39:07two guys and they were
00:39:08like wait wait
00:39:09what are you doing
00:39:09bravest team
00:39:10bravest team
00:39:11well done
00:39:11I'd say well done
00:39:12lads
00:39:13thank you
00:39:14well done to you
00:39:15both of you
00:39:16thank you very much
00:39:17I'm just really happy
00:39:17you remember me
00:39:18I know I'm sorry
00:39:19nice of you too
00:39:20that was so good
00:39:21well done
00:39:21well done
00:39:22thank you
00:39:22good times
00:39:23good times
00:39:24oh
00:39:25druggy
00:39:25well
00:39:26should we all go
00:39:27do our jobs now
00:39:28yeah
00:39:29playtime's over
00:39:33some light relief
00:39:34I felt his pain
00:39:35actually I spent most
00:39:36of that hiding behind
00:39:37some tyres
00:39:37looking through
00:39:38that
00:39:39how far you felt
00:39:40pain Simon
00:39:40I know I know
00:39:41I felt embarrassed
00:39:42for him
00:39:42I mean honestly
00:39:43but very very good
00:39:44sport is Liam Lawson
00:39:46and then they go out
00:39:47on the track
00:39:47and do the business
00:39:48again
00:39:49I mean Liam has
00:39:49just been on fire
00:39:50recently
00:39:51they both have
00:39:52honestly
00:39:52and I think that
00:39:53they're in a very
00:39:54good place as a team
00:39:55as a whole
00:39:55that car has been
00:39:56incredibly consistent
00:39:57throughout the season
00:39:58and they just keep
00:39:59delivering points
00:40:00finishes
00:40:01I mean Arvid in his
00:40:02rookie season
00:40:03has delivered 11
00:40:04points finishes
00:40:05which is
00:40:05it's just a great
00:40:06statement of where that
00:40:07car is and where the
00:40:08team is
00:40:08it's a car that
00:40:09you know isn't on a
00:40:10knife stage like some
00:40:11of the others are
00:40:11and the drivers are able
00:40:12to find confidence
00:40:13and just extract
00:40:14what they need to
00:40:14out of it
00:40:15we had Alan Permain
00:40:16again let's go back
00:40:17to what we talked
00:40:17about yesterday
00:40:18he wouldn't be drawn
00:40:19on his driver
00:40:20line up for next year
00:40:22like what more can
00:40:23they do
00:40:24confirm them
00:40:24come on
00:40:25yes
00:40:26because they know
00:40:27they're both competitive
00:40:28right
00:40:28they're in the car
00:40:29they know they're
00:40:30competitive
00:40:30yes another driver
00:40:31might be better
00:40:32but you don't know
00:40:34that until they're
00:40:34in the car
00:40:35so give him
00:40:36one more year
00:40:36both drivers
00:40:38and then see
00:40:38yeah because
00:40:39waiting in the wings
00:40:41let's hold off
00:40:42yeah who's
00:40:43he's in f2
00:40:44and part of the
00:40:45the Red Bull Junior
00:40:46program
00:40:46there are kind of
00:40:47like there were a few
00:40:48fellow years it seemed
00:40:49weren't there
00:40:49trying to find a
00:40:51replacement for Max
00:40:52Verstappen if he fell
00:40:53by the wayside
00:40:54but it seems like
00:40:55they've got that
00:40:56conveyor belt
00:40:57tuned up again now
00:40:58it does feel like that
00:40:59but unfortunately
00:41:00now they've got a
00:41:01couple of drivers
00:41:01that they're really
00:41:02happy with both at
00:41:03Racing Bulls
00:41:03and at Red Bull as
00:41:05well so it's kind of
00:41:06like how do you open up
00:41:06that pipeline again
00:41:07is there an opportunity
00:41:08for them to stay on
00:41:09longer or is this the
00:41:11maximum and he gets to
00:41:12stay
00:41:12I suppose they're nice
00:41:13headaches to have
00:41:14aren't they
00:41:14right okay you might be
00:41:15able to hear the roar
00:41:16of engines which can
00:41:17mean only one thing
00:41:18the pit lane is open
00:41:20and Ted is down there
00:41:22it certainly is Simon
00:41:24thank you very much
00:41:24and talking about
00:41:25business Max Verstappen
00:41:26ready to start this
00:41:28Grand Prix from the
00:41:29front and Singapore
00:41:31always marks the
00:41:32beginning of the
00:41:33business end of the
00:41:34championship but the
00:41:36F1 form book has
00:41:37been turned on its head
00:41:38recently no more
00:41:39Mercedes and McLaren
00:41:40dominating it's that
00:41:42man in the Red Bull
00:41:43Max Verstappen on pole
00:41:45position won the Grand
00:41:46Prix seven days ago and
00:41:48if he doesn't win the
00:41:49Singapore Grand Prix
00:41:50tonight something has
00:41:52gone wrong for Red Bull
00:41:53Racing and Max Verstappen
00:41:55this is the toughest
00:41:56Grand Prix of the year
00:41:57physically the best part
00:41:59of two hours 50 degrees
00:42:01C in the cockpits for the
00:42:04drivers and they are really
00:42:06going to be earning their
00:42:07money today Ferrari are
00:42:09back as well in it they're
00:42:10well and truly back with
00:42:11second and third on the
00:42:13grid Max Verstappen has
00:42:15the best race pace on paper
00:42:17but Charles Leclerc and
00:42:18Lewis Hamilton can
00:42:19absolutely win this today
00:42:21I'll tell you what down
00:42:22here in the pit lane it's
00:42:24going to get very busy
00:42:25because we have three
00:42:26drivers in quite a cramped
00:42:27pit lane starting here
00:42:29today Lance Strollen and
00:42:31Fernando Alonso for Aston
00:42:32Martin and Charles and
00:42:34Isaac Hadjar for Red Bull
00:42:36Racing here we go there
00:42:37are the McLarens wanting
00:42:38to have a race where they
00:42:39don't collide today and
00:42:41watching everything from the
00:42:42pit wall to looking over
00:42:44all the strategies is
00:42:45Karun Chandok Karun you've
00:42:47got all the data in front
00:42:48of you what are you going to
00:42:49be looking out for
00:42:51hi Ted hi everybody at
00:42:53home yeah I've got a
00:42:54fantastic setup here which
00:42:55will allow me to just
00:42:57really try and unpick the
00:42:59strategy so it depends who
00:43:01you believe there are most
00:43:03people who think it's
00:43:04Singapore it should be a
00:43:05slam dunk one-stop race
00:43:06however the teams have got
00:43:09uncharted territory this
00:43:10weekend because we've never
00:43:12had a sprint race here
00:43:13Max Verstappen will be
00:43:14leading them out he's cut
00:43:16across the white line as
00:43:17soon as he came out of
00:43:18pit lane which is a bit
00:43:20unusual and could be
00:43:21something that stewards will
00:43:22be looking at but they
00:43:25don't have all the
00:43:26information because it's
00:43:27the first sprint here
00:43:28because we haven't had
00:43:29three practice sessions and
00:43:30of course the sprint race
00:43:31was wet and they run the
00:43:33intermediate tires they
00:43:34haven't got any long run
00:43:36data to go on here so that
00:43:38could be a little bit of an
00:43:40unknown we've got three
00:43:42drivers who don't have any
00:43:43soft tires we've got the
00:43:45two Ferraris and the world
00:43:46championship leader Kimi
00:43:47Andre in fact there's one
00:43:49Ferrari coming behind me
00:43:50Charles Leclerc so let's
00:43:51see what they do they've got
00:43:52two cars in the fight against
00:43:54Max Verstappen let's
00:43:56remember Verstappen's run of
00:43:58start has not been good
00:44:00think back to Sepang last
00:44:01time out when he won he made
00:44:02a terrible getaway so if he
00:44:04doesn't make a good start he
00:44:05lost it again yesterday to
00:44:07George Russell Ferrari could
00:44:08be in the driving seat they
00:44:10believe they're a little bit
00:44:11slower than Max of pure pace
00:44:13but in terms of a strategic
00:44:15advantage they've got two
00:44:16cars in the fight against Max
00:44:18up front Crofty what can you
00:44:19see from up there well
00:44:21Corrine that was a really
00:44:22interesting getaway from the
00:44:24pit lane for Max Verstappen
00:44:26who definitely cut across the
00:44:28white line and I wonder if
00:44:29the stewards will take a look
00:44:31at that when you are meant to
00:44:32feed in towards turn two but
00:44:34what a weekend it's been for
00:44:35Max Verstappen so far he's
00:44:37never won here in Singapore
00:44:38before it's his 250th Grand
00:44:41Prix start and he's marked that
00:44:42with pole and a win in the
00:44:44sprint and a 50th Grand Prix
00:44:46pole for tonight's Grand Prix
00:44:48now if he wins from pole that
00:44:50will be 39 wins from 50 pole
00:44:53positions a success rate of
00:44:5578 percent not bad for a man
00:44:58who's got a one in five pole
00:44:59ratio from when he's competed
00:45:01in a Grand Prix and Max
00:45:04Verstappen just coming into
00:45:06form at this stage of the
00:45:07season but what can Ferrari do
00:45:09Lewis Hamilton third on the grid
00:45:11for the Scuderia this evening
00:45:13he started third three times
00:45:14already this season and he's
00:45:15finished on the podium each
00:45:17time his teammate Charles Leclerc
00:45:19starts on the front row for a
00:45:20fifth time this season but
00:45:21incredibly Charles still hasn't
00:45:23got a pole position with that
00:45:24now you can excuse Kimi Antonelli
00:45:26if he's thinking of the
00:45:27championship as well as this race
00:45:28he is after all a season high
00:45:3089 points ahead now and if he
00:45:33outscores George Russell by 12
00:45:34points then he's got a
00:45:35mathematical chance of becoming
00:45:37the youngest ever world champ at the
00:45:39next round in Austin we have 62
00:45:42laps to come Eileen Gu is settled
00:45:45down in the pit lane waiting for
00:45:47action she'll see Isaac Hadjar
00:45:49trundle around because he's one of
00:45:51three starting in the pit lane
00:45:53today power unit penalties for him
00:45:55and Fernando Alonso Lance Stroll with a
00:45:57setup change and George Russell who
00:45:58was starting at the back well still is
00:46:00but that's now 19th so he's already a
00:46:02few places ahead of where he thought
00:46:04he'd be coming into Singapore Simon
00:46:06down to you
00:46:08yeah thank you Kofti just over half an
00:46:11hour to go until lights out here in
00:46:13the streets of Singapore the
00:46:15grandstands are filling up 35 minutes
00:46:17to be precise we're going to take a
00:46:20short break on the other side of that
00:46:22we're going to look back on a busy day
00:46:23yesterday with sprint in the daylight
00:46:25inaugural sprint here in Singapore and
00:46:28qualifying itself for the main race
00:46:31that is next don't go anywhere
00:46:32and then we'll have Martin's good ball
00:46:44welcome back that is what they are
00:46:46competing for this evening the
00:46:48winner's trophy yesterday they were
00:46:50competing for the inaugural sprint
00:46:52during the daytime and then we had
00:46:54qualifying itself busy day in case you
00:46:56missed it is a reminder of what
00:46:58happened
00:47:01welcome along to the marina bay circuit
00:47:04where it's currently singaporeing it
00:47:06down
00:47:06lights out and away we go max
00:47:08verstappen and george russell on the
00:47:10front row already side by side george
00:47:12russell's already ahead and ahead of
00:47:14max verstappen into turn one here comes
00:47:16lewis hamilton into third place ahead of
00:47:18charles leclerc and that is the
00:47:20mercedes of george russell who's lost it
00:47:23on the final corner and is out of this
00:47:26race
00:47:28and that is the sergio peres at
00:47:30last roll incident there then
00:47:34mando norris goes down the inside of
00:47:36biastri at turn five and the two mclarens
00:47:39make contacts and their chances of a
00:47:43fourth and fifth go spinning out of this
00:47:46race
00:47:49max verstappen wins the singapore sprint
00:47:52and leads from the end of the first lap
00:47:55all the way to the checkered flag
00:47:57of course happy to to win here in the
00:47:59sprint but i also know that you know i
00:48:01want to win tomorrow not today and so
00:48:03we come then to the main events if the
00:48:05sprint race earlier whetted your appetite
00:48:07as much as it whetted the track you'll
00:48:09be looking forward to qualifying for the
00:48:10grand prix
00:48:12that is such a disappointing
00:48:14saturday for isaac hadjar
00:48:21oh that's into the wall that was a big
00:48:23brush with the wall but colopinto is
00:48:26going to complete the lap he is out of
00:48:28qualifying
00:48:32and it's a 31-3 the fastest lap so far
00:48:35he misses out by a tenth of a second
00:48:38but staff has got provisional pole
00:48:40his teammate charles leclerc comes and
00:48:43snatches it away from him right at the end
00:48:45by a few hundredths of a second
00:48:49max verstappen can back off he didn't
00:48:51need to push any harder on his final
00:48:54flying lap he had that pole in the bag
00:48:59okay so here's how they line up then for
00:49:02this evening's grand prix here in
00:49:03singapore having not taken a pole before
00:49:06here he's got two in a weekend one for the
00:49:08sprint one for the race itself for max
00:49:09but it was tight between charles himself and lewis hamilton just over a tenth
00:49:14separating them both of the ferraris had an opportunity
00:49:17jimmy antonelli improving on his sprint qualifying performance in that upgraded
00:49:22mercedes they've got the setup right it looks a little bit more predictable now
00:49:26fifth and sixth of the two that came together in the sprint the mclarens of lando norris
00:49:30and oscar piastri pierre gasly's best qualifying performance here since 2022 liam lawson's best
00:49:37ever
00:49:40arvid limblad is team a in behind and then nico hulkenberg the furthest forward of the
00:49:46audi's gabriel board to let her four places behind him the house is on the sixth row of the grid
00:49:51carlos
00:49:52sites didn't get the second flying lap in in q2 franco colopinto behind him and then the other
00:49:58williams of alex albon anna's crofty was mentioning as we move towards the very back there
00:50:07are three starting from the pit lane isa kajar by the way that's the only time when he's been driving
00:50:13he's not got into q3 wasn't his fault but he's had to take a new engine so too fernando alonso
00:50:18and large trial so both of the astons are starting for the pit lane george russell with his 40th place
00:50:24grip empty starting on the grid but from 19th right this is what lewis hamilton's had to say a little
00:50:29bit earlier on the track break today's gonna be so hard just trying to prepare myself for it
00:50:37best again but i feel good i think we got a good car i think if we can work on
00:50:42the strategy hold on to
00:50:44max apply the pressure um i think anything is possible today have fun out there today thanks
00:50:52he had a brilliant start didn't he in slippy conditions in the sprint hill just hope he can
00:50:57get another flyer if we can get another magical start like that one yesterday then i think we have a
00:51:02really interesting race on our hands we know as we've mentioned a couple of times the ferraris are the
00:51:06quick starters max on the other hand has had a couple of terrible starts on his side so
00:51:11if things go that way things can get really interesting but also lewis has been the tire
00:51:14whisperer for the last couple of races so maybe he can add pressure that way as well yeah definitely
00:51:18and normally max is in a great position on the on the clean side of the grid but we haven't
00:51:23had that
00:51:23much running since it rained so it's a bit more of an advantage for charles gold helmet though for
00:51:29for those times you're not going to miss that one that's for sure from the overheads right
00:51:32it's getting lively down here so let's get in amongst it martin where are you i am about fourth row
00:51:38of
00:51:39the grid wonderful atmosphere i tell you what just coming through here was max verstappen being
00:51:43wheeled along with some dry ice in the cockpit and all of his team around him uh closely followed by
00:51:50kimmy antonelli it just reminded me of a massive boxing match actually where the boxers come in the ring
00:51:56to great energy and and music so um let's have a little wander down see who we can find on
00:52:05our way
00:52:05through um yeah gasly here is had a great qualifying just behind guest street on the grid and you can
00:52:14see on the side they they get a clue where to stop when they come back you see the light
00:52:18on the side of
00:52:19the track there and then they've got to try and park their wheels so it's close to this yellow line
00:52:24which they can't really see steve nielsen here md of uh alpine steve how are you i mean pierre's going
00:52:31well you need some points against racing bulls tonight yeah that's an understatement martin
00:52:35unfortunately uh they've outperformed us the last couple we've been unlucky but here we are again
00:52:40qualifying well and let's see what we get and any particular challenges this evening cooling or
00:52:45brakes or anything survival weather strategy one stop two stop all the normal stuff all right good
00:52:52stuff thanks steve and we'll keep uh we'll keep reaching towards this direction and there should
00:52:59be some interesting people on the grid tonight as we've had uh in the past uh here and uh we'll
00:53:05just
00:53:05keep uh maybe see if we can find a driver or two i think and most of them have walked
00:53:10off the grid i
00:53:11think they'll be going to get the cool suits on and to uh and to just to get as much
00:53:16temperature out of
00:53:18their core and out of their body as they possibly can let's have a quick chat with uh zachary brown
00:53:25and just to see if um zach how are you good yeah so i'm going to imagine some fairly stern
00:53:32words last
00:53:33night to your drivers yeah who managed to trip over each other oh yeah that was a don't do that
00:53:38again
00:53:39and we didn't say please that's uh that's an order and yeah i mean you were really upset about it
00:53:44weren't you yeah you you can't have that it was um unnecessary uh result for the team when a lot
00:53:53of
00:53:53pressure's on and we're trying to catch ferrari and red bull's not far behind so um yeah we we learned
00:53:59from it i think there's some things they definitely could have done differently maybe a few things we
00:54:03could have done a little bit differently so you'll learn and i think we'll have a good race tonight
00:54:07okay well let's what yeah wipe last night and what what can happen tonight are you fast enough against the
00:54:12ferraris um ferrari look very quick i think we can hang with them i think we can hang whatever
00:54:18position we're able to get kind of get ourselves into so we need to have a good uh a good
00:54:22start i
00:54:23think you know the three four teams are all on about same pace max looks to be uh one step
00:54:28ahead of
00:54:29everyone but uh let's see uh the basketball players are there with you tonight and they dwayne and chris
00:54:33are they are they on the grid yep yep they uh saw them in our hospitality earlier but uh typical
00:54:38formula
00:54:39one fashion it's a busy grid which is exciting all right good well we'll see if we can uh find
00:54:44them
00:54:44at some point have a have a great race um keep going forward then so we're up against then kimmy
00:54:50antonelli his job tonight is just to stay out of trouble really and uh and come home with some points
00:54:57and pick up the pieces and every time he does that cars seem to fly off the road in front
00:55:04of him
00:55:04and he gets he gets a big payback um we'll keep uh it's getting really busy now so i think
00:55:10we need
00:55:10to go towards the front how you doing you getting a good shot there hi getting a good shot you
00:55:17want
00:55:17to are you a ferrari fan yeah i'm for our ferrari fan oh good well you are in exactly the
00:55:22right place
00:55:23what's your name simon simon gong june you can call me simon all right from china all right simon good
00:55:29to see you and welcome to the grid uh right fred doesn't like chatting on the grid and then we
00:55:36get
00:55:36down towards the uh the front and here we have it then charles leclerc on the front row of the
00:55:43grid
00:55:44uh ferrari just sitting there just gently smoking away with that with the dry ice items on there to cool
00:55:52the car other items to keep parts from look at the umbilical cord down there near the front of the
00:56:01under tray there if you can see it leave so this is like a patient in intensive care basically if
00:56:08they
00:56:08don't nurse this car and keep the right bits warm and the other bits cool if you started it up
00:56:15and it
00:56:16wasn't the right temperature to blow up so they literally are and that's why there's so many people
00:56:21around the car they are literally just keeping this car alive sitting here and it needs that sort of
00:56:28attention they always did but they're even more complex now and so they'll just be running through
00:56:33the gears just spinning the gears and um right okay let's uh you're getting some uh you're getting some
00:56:42looks there lee from the ferrari gang who thought we were encroaching uh their zone right so we can get
00:56:49through here and see who we can excuse you sir how are you um i think the gap is in
00:56:56the middle here
00:56:57gaps in the middle and uh there was a gap anyway can i come in that photograph
00:57:08nice to see you uh right let's um let's go over here and have a chat with kim kardashian
00:57:17and see uh hello kim how are you did i not know the rules did we get up on the
00:57:27wrong foot no it's
00:57:28absolutely fine lovely to see you again at a grand prix what do you think about crazy world of formula
00:57:34one i think it's amazing and fun and wild and something i've never seen before it's amazing so much
00:57:41energy isn't it and your man lewis he is in great form he is i'm just praying for the best
00:57:49tonight
00:57:50did he seem confident what did he seem confident i think he's driving so well
00:57:56yes very confident and so am i just got to pray for the best all right lovely to see you
00:58:01thank you
00:58:01all right where are we we're in the vip oh there's it oh i'm such a fan of this young
00:58:11lady eileen
00:58:12eileen goo uh olympic winter three times gold medalist i love watching you and it's such a pleasure to meet
00:58:20you it's such a joy to be here it's my first singapore grand prix um the environment is absolutely
00:58:25amazing so i can't wait to celebrate sports let's do it you know when i'm watching you and you've got
00:58:30that final last chance on the half pipe or something reminds me of a of a qualifying lap
00:58:36in formula one now you've got to get it done haven't you sometimes the pressure is higher in
00:58:42qualifiers than in the final it depends on the track i guess here for f1 and for me as well
00:58:47it's
00:58:47just like sometimes it's about making the final so actually at the olympics i fell in my first two
00:58:52out of three runs for all of the events and you can imagine the pressure was sky high well done
00:58:57well lovely to see you on the grid so i'm gonna have a quick chat with uh with kimmy if
00:59:02i may a
00:59:03quick word commit thanks for the interview earlier really interesting to talk to you feeling good
00:59:08yeah feeling great uh really excited and uh let's see what we're gonna be able to do today yeah i
00:59:14mean this is it this is a lovely piece of tarmac of asphalt for the start line isn't it plenty
00:59:19of
00:59:19grip yeah new tarmac is always nice plenty of grip and uh yeah let's see obviously starting on the
00:59:25dirty side so hopefully the grip won't be too dissimilar but uh yeah hopefully we'll get away
00:59:30well and uh from that point on we can fight lovely to see you thank you um sorry eileen i
00:59:37i'm really
00:59:37sorry i turned around and and didn't say goodbye properly thank you very much nice to see you thank
00:59:42you so much uh right let's see who else we could have a chat with uh fernando's gotta you gotta
00:59:49start
00:59:49from the pit lane fernando yeah so yeah he seems pretty pretty uh overwhelmed by that doesn't he
00:59:59and another another young young hat jar here uh has also got to start from the pit lane and let's
01:00:08see
01:00:08ollie ollie ollie how's it going good quality you seem like on good form really good form lately
01:00:14yeah it's been a good weekend i've been really happy i think i've achieved the maximum that i could
01:00:18sprint race was a positive surprise and then uh quality was was where we are really all right
01:00:24good stuff there's a minute to the national anthem but thanks for stopping um right is there anybody
01:00:28else over there i should be talking to i want to talk to is that felix over there uh i
01:00:37think it is

01:00:57garage you had a chance to look around the car yeah i've been around the garage in the pit stop
01:01:02as well you know seeing all the races getting ready so yeah it was a big moment for me all
01:01:06right
01:01:07good stuff well i hope we put a good race on for you thank you so much forza ferrari
