00:00Welcome back, Klaus Hessler here talking to you about pedal technique, foot technique
00:04and we have been working on double strokes in the last lesson
00:10and double strokes from your feet will also be the topic now
00:14but in yet a different way because we're talking about inverted, say shifted double strokes
00:21that will be game changer number one
00:24game changer number two will be we're not looking at a 16th-32nd note combination
00:31but we're looking at a rhythmic grid of 8th note triplets
00:37and for the double strokes we're further looking into 16th note triplet rhythms
00:44and again I'm using mostly the leg-ankle combination as opposed to not really using the ankle-leg combination
01:02so at a relatively slow tempo basses and ladder O maybe at first to give you an understanding
01:13what the structure of the strokes really is
01:17basses and exercise O would be this
01:59now once you've understood how that feels when you play the inverted, the shifted double strokes
02:06now once you've understood how that feels when you play the inverted, the shifted double strokes
02:32it's going to be much easier to understand the positioning of the notes in all of the exercises from letter
02:40A to letter N
02:42so here's the combination of basses and letter A
02:48again make sure you really stay with the correct sticking
02:52again above that one line it's the right foot
02:58below the line is the left foot
03:01so here's basses and exercise A
03:06소리
03:06so here's an奏
03:11oh
03:14i
03:34say
03:34okay
03:34so
03:38Here's B.
04:05At a slightly faster tempo, maybe a little bit with C.
04:11Here's B.
04:45Let's say F for instance.
05:17Here's B.
05:18A little bit of H.
05:21H.
05:47And so forth.
05:48If you want to make this a more serious workout, you could also replace the bases of just the triplets.
05:57For instance, with exercise O.
06:02O is going to be your new bases.
06:04And then you'll be combining O with letter A, O with letter B, O with letter whatever.
06:12So, some little examples, I'm doing O with A.
06:44Or a little bit O with letter F.
06:47Or a little bit of A, O with letter B, O with letter B, O with letter B, O with
07:08letter B,
07:09there's tons of ways to still combine those exercises.
07:14You can also pick N as your bases or E as your bases.
07:18Or just play the exercises in one continuous flow from A to B to C to D whatever.
07:27There are actually no limitations.
07:29The sky is the limit.
07:31Okay?
07:32So, check out that stuff.
07:36As you do that, it's always a work in progress in terms of, say, maybe readjusting your seating position a
07:46little bit or readjusting something with spring tension, beater distance.
07:51It's a constant work in progress, let's say.
07:59Ultimately, you want to search for that one adjustment of the pedal that really works best for you.
08:05And you're working and you're looking for that seating height which is like the best for you.
08:12And, of course, you check out all kinds of players who are famous for their pedal technique.
08:18And you check out, okay, what is it that these guys are doing?
08:23It's pretty much endless.
08:25I'm just giving you my take on it which is mostly, say, derived from what I'm doing with my hands.
08:31Okay?
08:32You will also notice that it's quite crucial to also consider how your bass drum sounds like.
08:41The heads you use, the amount of muffling you use, if there's a hole in the front head or no.
08:47If it's a big hole or a small hole or no hole at all.
08:52How you tension and how you tune your bass drum.
08:56The amount of, say, response that the bass drum gives you.
09:00That's all stuff which is to be taken into consideration and which affects your performance, okay?
09:08So, keep an open mind on all of that and I'll see you in the next lesson, okay?
09:14Thank you.
