Foot Technique: Description

00:04Y we were discussing parallels between hands and feet
00:08y cómo se puede transferir ciertas cosas
00:10de las extremidades de las extremidades
00:13a las extremidades de las extremidades.
00:14Y una importante aspecto
00:16cuando se trata de la técnica de hand,
00:18es de entender cómo funciona esto para usted.
00:25Y, por supuesto,
00:27este movimiento es
00:29pretty much made up
00:30de dos ingredientes.
00:33Uno de ellos es
00:35de entender
00:37el
00:39down-tap
00:41ingredient, si
00:42si,
00:45con un movimiento
00:47en una
00:49wave-like, whip-like
00:51fashion,
00:52que incluye
00:54la mano y la mano
00:56y la mano
00:56y la mano
00:58y la mano
00:58y la mano
00:59de la mano
01:01la mano
01:02de la mano
01:04y la mano
01:05y la mano
01:09las
01:10Y pensando en cómo esto puede ser transferido a los pies.
01:17También vamos a ver en un ejercicio de mi DVD que se llama Drumming Kairos.
01:26En ese ejercicio, vamos a ver en un ejercicio básico,
01:32a base made up of both feet flat on the pedals saying something like this
01:46and then bringing in this combination of
01:55with your right foot respectively
02:03it may be on a bass drum pedal, it could be...
02:09it could of course just as well be...
02:15this, I don't really care.
02:18So this really works for you no matter if you're a double bass drum player
02:22or if you have some extra pedal with a cowbell or woodblock
02:26or whatever sort of device you want to hit.
02:28The function from your foot is pretty much the same.
02:32Of course it's gonna feel different if you play a bass drum
02:36or if you're moving two cymbals
02:38or if you're playing against a piece of metal or wood.
02:43but the fundamental movement from your leg and ankle will be pretty much the same.
02:52And before we start, one more thought about this here.
03:01Because sometimes people ask me, so what it is that you do to make both strokes sound alike?
03:09And my answer is nothing.
03:11Those two strokes will not sound alike because you have two different movements
03:17and it's pretty much impossible that two different movements will be creating the same sound.
03:23If you wanted to create sounds that are alike with equal volume, you would either go
03:33and do this
03:36or you would do
03:40this
03:41but this here
03:46never creates equal sound.
03:48So that's important to keep in mind.
03:51Anyhow, the first exercise in this lesson is the basses.
03:56Right, right, left, left, right, right, left, left.
03:58Feet on the floor.
03:59And on letter A, we're going to be accenting the count of one by bringing in the leg.
04:11So this is the exercise.
04:55So that would be exercise A.
04:57A little bit with the left foot stuff.
05:00Say for instance exercise B for a beginning.
05:03Here we go.
05:04One, two, three, four.
05:47So far with that, let's maybe look into some exercises that involve both feet.
05:56So maybe let's look into letter G.
06:01Here we go.
06:02Basses and letter G.
06:03One, two, three, four.
06:46And maybe one more example which accents both feet on all of the downbeats, which would
06:54be exercise O.
06:56Here we go.
06:57Here we go.
06:58Here we go.
07:17Here we go.
07:37Okay.
07:39Actually not that much of a problem once you've understood that basic movement of how your
07:46leg moves down and how your ankle comes in and how you produce that say leg ankle combo creating
07:55one loud and one soft stroke.
07:58So these exercises and these techniques also give you the means to add more dynamic range to
08:05what you're doing with your feet.
08:07And I mean this is such a beautiful instrument, it really deserves to be played loud and soft
08:14just as well.
08:15Just in the same way as you're using dynamic ranges for the stuff that you're doing with
08:23your hands on any drum that you play with sticks.
08:27So adding that extra dynamic range to a certain degree to what you do with your feet is simply
08:35an important addition to what you do as drummers because whenever you use dynamics the whole
08:40thing starts to breathe and starts to come alive.
08:44Okay.
08:45So enjoy these exercises, maybe look into drumming kairos for more stuff and more combinations,
08:51not just this one page and enjoy the exercises.
08:56Okay.
08:57Thank you so much.
08:57Bye.
