27:34партнер с фибридой альбайдер there's a lot of traffic there's a car gone off there that's an
27:39ellie has gone off and there's also a lot of traffic going through 17. this is down at this
27:46is down at turn 11 i think for uh yeah he's answer that i know he is down at turn
27:5116. yeah he's looking
27:52for a gap to reverse crofty but he's got a whole stream of cars coming i don't know if he's
27:57going
27:57to find it it's like waiting at a roundabout you're just waiting for this gap of the traffic
28:01he's not getting one for a little while he is currently going backwards yeah the thing is
28:09there will be cars on a lap look at the brakes overheating and the smoke coming off the brakes
28:14there and he's got going again luckily for him ollie benn wasn't on a i know he was on a
28:20time
28:20lap at ollie benn but saw the yellow flags and and lifted off it's only surprised kimmy didn't
28:26want to just spin around we saw in backwood i mean max was tapping and lots of those just spinning
28:31around to get going again what happened here look there's a lot of cars uh ahead of him one two
28:38i
28:39don't think they basically no i tell you what i think it's really bumpy in that breaking that we
28:45saw that shot of george russell's car the front wing touching the ground uh you know russell saying on the
28:52radio is where the car feels really stiff i wonder if just there kimmy got caught out with the
28:57the lack of retardation charlotte claire goes second fastest within two tenths of george russell who had
29:04just set the fastest first sector on his latest flying lap but has had to back off in the middle
29:11part of
29:11the lap the downgraded mercedes leads fb1 here at singapore yeah but we uh we can't compare george
29:21russell and kimmy antonelli because answer well we we can on the hard tire there's 500s between them
29:28we can't on the soft tire because kimmy hasn't run them so we might have to wait till qualifying for
29:33that
29:34george russell in baku led fb1 went and won the race from pole achieved his first career grand slam
29:42of all things now he might take a sprint pole he's not going to take a grand prix pole because
29:47he'll start from the uh the back of the grids
29:50oh my god man
29:57i've got the confirmation from george russell as well um new turbocharger and a new internal
30:05combustion engine uh neither of which are in compliance and a new exhaust set
30:11too which also isn't in compliance so uh that'll be back of the grid yeah meanwhile we just saw
30:16lewis hampton have an almighty slide as he came through turn 10 and managed to gather it up without
30:23running out going into the wall and uh yeah it looks tricky as soon as you get a little bit
30:29offline it is still extremely dusty and it will continue to be extremely dusty too as ted was
30:35mentioning with the haze that is just settling over singapore uh currently and no real ability to
30:41clean the track up to the extent that i'm sure the drivers would like between now and uh sprint
30:47qualifying which is three hours away uh in singapore at 8 30 uh this evening good start to the weekend
30:55for george russell but he knows from kind of here on air and it he could end up going backwards
31:01certainly
31:01for the grand prix itself where just to confirm he will be starting from the back of the grid yeah
31:06but
31:06i think just to clarify for everybody at home it doesn't apply to the sprint so he can take sprint
31:12pole
31:12later tonight and potentially start from paul and win the sprint race tomorrow so um the penalty applies
31:19when we get to sunday and he is uh he is the most successful driver at sprints this season with
31:25three
31:25uh wins uh out of five he's also got three poles to his name in fact british drivers have taken
31:32every
31:33sprint pole in 2026 flying the flag uh in some respect russell with three norris with ron and lewis
31:40hamilton now with one two not a sound check but one as well i should say very much on that
31:48one
31:49yeah lando he'd be pretty pleased with his start to his weekend won't he with p3 well i think both
31:56lando and oscar on the soft tires the fact that he's finished up with two and a bit tense ahead
32:02of his
32:02teammate it just indicates to me lando's been up there as fastest and and has has been kind of second
32:10third fastest that's where he ended up that indicates they might just have found the fix
32:14to those fuel system problems that he was experiencing he was big he was losing you know
32:19between one and two tenths along the straights can i give a shout out to arvid lindenblatt by the way
32:24because he's the only rookie on the grid this is a really really difficult track and he's only got one
32:31practice session to learn the track it's not like you can pound around here another car and a formula
32:37three car or anything to learn this place and uh he's done a fantastic job within three tenths of
32:42liam lawson now uh on the medium tire uh two so no soft tire for him from verstappen downwards
32:49uh they uh they were all around the medium tire apart from perris and uh bottas that has been
32:54fp1 the only practice session on the final sprint weekend of the season george russell with the fastest
33:02time uh george russell has led fp1 six times this season charlotte claire has led it five times this
33:09season he ended up second fastest uh just under two tenths behind russell lando norris lewis hamilton
33:14and oscar piastri complete the top five they all went out on the soft tire after them max
33:19for stephen who was seven tenths off the pace and i think we'll be certainly there or thereabouts on
33:25that reckoning when he puts the softs on uh was seventh ahead of antonelli hadjar gasly and lawson
33:30ollie behm uh 11th for has arvid lindblad the rookie was 12th estevan orcon ahead of fernando
33:36alonso 14th could he get into sq2 later science and portoleto albon and hulkenberg who stopped with
33:43what looked like a gearbox issue 18th colapinto and stroll jerez and bottas that's your practice
33:49sprint qualifying next
33:55yeah top five on the softs top three separated by just under three tenths but there you can see
34:01just an example by the way of the kind of smog that's in the air here that's leaving that fine
34:05dust all over the track from the indonesian forest fires the burning the peak down there wonder how
34:11that's going to affect sprint qualifying particularly if you get off the racing line
34:15it may well prove tricky that's from one o'clock as we say getting underway in about 8 30 local
34:19so
34:20three hours of time uh on air half an hour before that then the sprint saturday nine o'clock in
34:25the
34:25morning qualifying from one o'clock cars on track from two and on sunday on air 11 30 lights out
34:34for
34:34the singapore grand prix from one o'clock and there's all this to look forward to
34:44well alex what a lovely warm reception listen i know it's not been an easy year but how much does
34:48that give you a boost lift your spirits it does it's a um it's always really nice coming to asia
34:53it does feel like one big family in southeast asia and obviously we've got malaysian grand prix
34:57we've got this weekend um you can tell it's loud as well it does it do make me feel very
35:02special
35:03when i come here jb the marina bay circuit a massive challenge for qualifying isn't it
35:11i always think of it as a real mental challenge as much as anything else yeah definitely i mean it
35:16is physical it's unbelievably hot here humid but it's the mental aspect yes one touch of the curb wrong
35:22you're in the hall how are you mind managing the rest of this season uh i'm bono who has a
35:33lot of
35:33experiences on championships so he's always there to to keep me calm the conclusion is you know you just
35:41gotta performance
35:44what we've done we're fed up with a normal style interviews so we've set up what looks like an
35:50ordinary interview position in the panic we're in control we're in control of name's questions yeah
35:56we're like a couple of evil puppeteers yes i would honestly say i always raced pretty freely i never
36:02asked me to redo his answer because it wasn't very good yeah i always just go and do my best
36:07wait hang on i think are you happy with that answer do you want to be happy okay i'm just
36:14checking just
36:14i thought that it was maybe a little bit like not positive
36:19oh i'm sorry
36:25Naomi Schiff supreme acting skills we'll see more of that over the weekend busy f people as we're saying
36:31didn't get to compare the uh the upgrade the lack of it uh between george and kimmy but on the
36:37softs george
36:38quickest uh we'll have thoughts of aikumatsu in a couple of moments time as well bit of head scratching
36:43ahead of sprint point
36:53welcome back just the uh one hour of practice as is the norm on sprint weekends george russell 132
37:00uh 274s couple of tenths ahead of char leclerc uh all the top five on the softs and then most
37:07of the rest on the mediums as
37:08promised oh comatsu comes in at just the right time are you just we're just going to get into this
37:13first of all the air quality here at the moment i
37:17don't know if you like the rest of us are developing the singapore cough
37:20that seems to have happened i mean because they're having terrible problems with the indonesian fires
37:25and it's you know there's a dust on the track and how is it affecting the drivers as well
37:30drivers i haven't spoken to them after a session about it but it's not been too bad for us yeah
37:35it's
37:35not great but uh we're not trying to exercise on outdoor anything trying to look after ourselves
37:39as best as possible yeah but there's a there's dust on obviously the outside of the track how tricky
37:44do you anticipate that being is that is that affecting grip levels at all yeah i'm sure yeah yeah and
37:49if you look at the slow lane that was terrible right amount of dust it was kicking up so what's
37:55the
37:55initial feedback you're hearing from the drivers obviously one practice session around a circuit
38:00like this that we know drivers typically need to build their confidence at yeah is that enough did
38:04they get good data how are things looking so yeah i think uh main thing is to keep the car
38:08running out
38:09on the track you know drivers they need to gain confidence every single lap track evolution is huge so
38:13what you're doing lap one versus lap five is totally different and then car just cannot be too far away
38:18but i
38:19think we've done a decent job i think we had a good travel free session and drivers gaining confidence
38:23so a few areas to work on but i think we had a decent session i cannot complain it's same
38:28for everyone
38:28right just one hour going to sprint 40. yeah last race was not probably what you wanted in uh it's
38:33a
38:34pang um but both drivers coming into this weekend seem seem very positive and very excited by the sprint
38:40format is that justified or do you feel that the pace is not improved from singapore from sepang no i
38:47mean
38:47sepang on saturday in a very very high track temperature with the very rough tarmac we really
38:52struggled to keep the tires alive but on sunday we had a very decent pace in a wet condition cooler
38:57condition etc but we didn't execute very well so you know as a race team i'm sure you're the same
39:02if
39:02you had a bad race weekend last thing you want is a big break so it's really lucky for us
39:07that we have
39:07this race weekend straight away to really put all the learnings from a sepam and then execute very
39:12so that we can fight for the points so that's what we're trying to do i think fp1 proved that
39:17we own that so really trying to find you a few bits and pieces and then first and foremost try
39:23to get out of sq1 is there an upgrade on ollie's car this weekend yeah it's a small modification yes
39:29and it make it make much of a difference on the evidence you've seen so far difficult to see on
39:33the
39:33fp1 session because nobody's done the proper long run it's gonna be i think we're gonna see more
39:37difference in the long run so sprint korea i don't think it's gonna make a huge difference but in a
39:42sprint we may see some difference depending on the condition depending on temperature and then
39:46io we haven't had a chance to speak to you since the news came out that esteban is no longer
39:50going
39:50to be with the team next year i know in the past you've referred to us that your team is
39:54still
39:54very under resourced despite the cost cap and esteban's been saying this decision's been very much
39:59out of his control so there's rumors speculation that cost is involved with the decision can you put
40:04those to bed can you clarify it for us what did it come down to no look when we're choosing
40:08driver
40:08it's about the overall performance overall package and then everything comes into of course you know
40:13natural talent that's something we cannot teach you know either as a driver you are quick or not quick
40:18you know esteban is very very quick on his day when the car is perfect when he's happy with the
40:23car he's
40:23very very quick but then so but what we're looking for going forward is that we just want that speed
40:30plus
40:31more consistency and then also the feedback as well i mean esteban is very good i don't want to take
40:37anything away from him what he's done he contributed a lot to the team and he's the you know first
40:42race
40:42winner we are signed right and then you know as a team we still are on the journey so we
40:48still have
40:49lots of imperfections maybe in a better environment perfect environment esteban can completely flourish
40:54his talent but with the team set up as we are with some inconsistency issue etc it's really uh you
41:01know
41:02not playing to sometimes esteban's strength so yeah so we needed to make some changes uh since the
41:07announcement how's the atmosphere been in the team because obviously when a driver's leaving uh sometimes
41:13it can be a slightly disruptive atmosphere i look again you know we both professionals right and then
41:19what's good for the team is what's good for esteban esteban needs to show to everyone in the world how
41:24quick he is every time he goes out there how much your team player he is i think he you
41:29saw it in one
41:30of the grand prix's actually in the back when we needed to uh get esteban to back off a little
41:34bit so
41:35that he can get uh or he can get the overtake mode on esteban again we told him on the
41:39radio
41:40down that straight away he goes to show that you know he's still a team player he's still completely
41:44professional you know pushing to the end that's what we want that's what we need and we
41:48completely transparent so yeah there's no um of course it's not easy but there's no uh let's
41:53say um ill feeling in in that sense we're trying to do our best both sides are you who are
41:59you looking
41:59at tell me about the drivers that are already coming he's ready he's got the shorts on ready to
42:06you know ready to train in this heat who is i mean you must there must be drivers out there
42:10that you
42:11particularly admire whether that's in one of the support series or outside of that maybe for i mean there's
42:16no secret that we've been testing several drivers through our tpc test program which is honestly
42:21like a amazing thing that we can do these days thanks to our toyota collaboration so we've evaluated
42:26several drivers and then we've got all the data now we've got all the reports so we're having one
42:31final meeting very soon and hopefully you can make a decision pretty soon so when do we think we might
42:35get an announcement i'm sorry to push you but when when might you say this is our driver no i
42:40can only
42:41say it's going to be very soon and we won't have to wait very long we won't have to wait
42:45very long he's
42:45not going to give anything crazy he's not he's not telling us i'm looking at the comms team they're
42:49just shaking their heads as well all right thank you for keeping your council appreciate it thank you
42:53we'll let you uh get back to things uh but yeah i mean we've got uh yeah we'll we'll let
42:58yes you can
42:59go to debrief and we'll talk about that session as it were thank you i hope for pleasure um yeah
43:05lots of lock-ups i mean this is evidence of it as you're saying off off that off that racing
43:10line with
43:10the darston with the fact that actually it's a very green track not many support series this weekend
43:15relatively to usual yeah and some of the lock-ups are quite unusual because it's the it's the loaded
43:20tire normally it would be the inside tire because it's unloaded that locks up but it looks like the
43:24yellow paint here is causing them some issues uh it will rubber in it will get better but it's
43:29something they have to be really careful with uh especially going through qualifying you can see
43:34that outside kerb also they're causing some trouble there i think it was kimmy who had that lock up there
43:38but also we heard isaac hadja complaining a lot about bottoming and you know the grounding of the car and
43:43that also will destabilize the car throughout the track but yeah mostly it's just a session to clean up the
43:47track get those those useful datas in because uh one practice session this weekend on a tough circuit
43:53to do that straight into spring qualifying are you ready i'm ready good it was ready uh nico
43:58holkenberg's car sounded a bit dodgy didn't it bag of nails actually can we can we have a look at
44:03that
44:03we have a hear of it can we can we can we turn up the volume and we'll be quiet
44:12yeah he lost drive uh before the last corner couldn't quite make into the pits so he trundled
44:18down the start finish line and then pulled over to the left but it sounds like it's gearbox drive
44:22shaft it's it's not an engine issue because the engine's still still running actually i mean they
44:27were they've actually talked down their chances this weekend actually you'd think like a few others
44:33like aston martin where where power isn't necessarily the issue around here that that audi would have
44:39the the same thing going on but the fact that they've got this large turbo and the fact that it
44:43is so hot so humid just explain that they don't like that do they the larger turbos the the fact
44:49that
44:49you know these kind of conditions don't really work for them well it is also a lot of the corners
44:53are point and squirt corners so it's very different to sepang you know where it's fast it's flowing
44:58it's not so much about the acceleration of the car the engine is still very important around here and
45:04i think that's that's probably why they're struggling a little bit more bigger turbos
45:07we've all talked about the ferrari having a small turbo which really helps them in monaco on a street
45:11circuit so bigger turbo it's just a bit more a bit lazy i guess sluggish yeah hot weather less dense
45:17more water molecules don't like it larger turbos apparently anyway right let's talk here about
45:23valtteri bottas we tease this at the top but he has risked life and limb to get here on his
45:29bike
45:29and uh craig went to talk to you about it well valtteri i've been listening to your accounts of
45:36this marvelous ride which has got the world captivated i'm not sure you can believe the
45:40reaction it's had but you said one thing i took the road less traveled and is that at the bottom
45:46of
45:46all of this pretty much yeah you know i knew that you know you could ride from malaysia to singapore
45:51that's what tiffany gave me as a joke and i took it seriously but then i wanted to do something
45:56different and really you know use the the forests the gravel pads the jungle even uh so it was definitely
46:02roads less traveled and it was pretty wild yeah getting out the circuit i think you got out the
46:07circuit better than i did but that was pretty chaotic yeah yeah it was pretty chaotic but actually
46:12with the bike it seemed like way faster and transport than with the car okay but yeah there was cars
46:18coming the other way and all the rest of it but okay tell us about the jungle at night time
46:24what
46:25the sights the sounds just the well the emotions you went through yeah what was the most impressive
46:30thing for me was that i never really experienced before is the sound you know when you're there
46:34in the middle of a forest or a jungle alone just you your bike your bike light it's it's pretty
46:40wild
46:41and then you start to think what is out there and uh but then you just try to crack on
46:46and um you know
46:48keep up the pace but i saw some some wildlife some snakes and lizards and stuff two encounters with
46:54snakes is that correct that is correct one cobra and one python but i would say probably that night
46:59riding that was the most epic part of it did you have antidotes i did not so what was the
47:06what was the
47:07plan b well i had a support vehicle always not far away so there was always going to be help
47:11if it
47:12was needed but actually everything went went as planned and there was no big surprises okay well
47:16listen the cameraman filming this lee did 70 miles not a third i think of your distance i'm going to
47:22bring him in here here take this lee i want to hear about interactions with local people from you and
47:27i'm going to take the camera you stand in there hello there i went past the school and uh all
47:40the
47:40kids came running after me and uh they found out that i was from england and they were shouting mr
47:45england mr england and followed me all the way down the road i thought well i'm going to get in
47:49trouble with the teachers yeah yeah no it doesn't i i saw with the locals they're so nice so respectful
47:54you know i think once the story started to go in especially day two and three there was so much
48:00support you know people cheering on me and everyone was super helpful even the cars uh were just so
48:05respectful as as preparation you're good you're actually you're clear mind healthy body how does
48:11all that snack mind is definitely clear you know i had lots of time to think about everything um and
48:16yeah
48:17everything was planned so that i can still recover for the weekend so i had the two bigger days were
48:21monday tuesday yesterday was kind of like a recovery day for me and um yeah so everything is well planned
48:27and i'm well hydrated and uh feeling good so all good you can't do it again i don't think there's
48:33nothing on next year's calendar that can can work you never know okay we'll find out and just finally
48:41you're here you're missing the the gravel championships and you're also a bit in the
48:46doghouse you're missing tiffany's last last race i know yeah it's tiffany she's had a great career in
48:52cycling and it's going to be her last race this weekend professionally uh in the gravel world in
48:57australia so i'll be trying to follow that's on saturday saturday i believe they start at 10 a.m so
49:02um
49:04yeah i'm not there but yeah i'll be there in spirit okay thank you lee thank you voucher well done
49:09on
49:10two wheels best of luck on four thank you ah wonderful to see valtteri and and uh lee kookamorgan
49:20one of our cameramen who used to be in the territorial army tough as old boots he is in
49:24cycles every single day 70 miles for him 100 200 on for for valtteri did all of the snakes apparently
49:32did bunny hop over a monitor lizard that's what it said in one of the press releases yeah done that
49:36he's living on the wild side isn't he no i i haven't i haven't though but uh it's it's amazing
49:41right i mean on your own through the forests and i'm okay thank you i thought he had a couple
49:46of
49:46people you know saving him from the lizards but he didn't he's so i mean he's it's nothing compared
49:52with the outback is it i mean that's now he's embraced australia and he you know he lives where
49:56he does you know the snakes over there much tougher although cobras are pretty i mean look i'm not a
50:01too much of an expert on the wildlife in those two areas i won't talk about it but what i
50:04will say is
50:05is that just a statement from veltri about his level of fitness i mean we're all talking about
50:09how tough this triple header has been we've had the jet lag the hot conditions the humidity and he's
50:14going whatever guys i'm going to do over 200 miles on a bike to get to the race as prep
50:19which is more
50:20i think all roughly the same length as the sprint and the race itself this week so there you go
50:25more than you've done all year well yeah he's been in the gym yeah don't need don't need to do
50:31that
50:31um what are we thinking from from sprint qualifier i mean the problem is there's lack of evidence here
50:36what what we're gonna what do you expect to see here uh well the thing is there's a big difference
50:41between the soft and the medium tires and we don't normally see that so if you ran on the soft
50:47you don't
50:47know what the medium is going to feel like and going to less grip in his qualifying session is normally
50:51a lot more difficult so i don't know it's really mixed up and we can't and we can't compare mercedes
50:58upgrade and lack of it yet really because they're on the different tires i was going to say that
51:01the gap between them would have been the most relevant but as you say they've got two completely
51:05different cars basically i think let's watch out for ferrari here you know they obviously were
51:09threatening for pole position as well in in sepang on a track where there were long straights that
51:14you know they clearly suffer in that area that's a little bit less important here if they can get
51:18track position here i think they could do a good job so maybe that's a bit of a yeah we'll
51:22see
51:23mclaren up there mclaren do you think i mean great yeah they are well they are up there they
51:27are the quickest time so it's it's who's willing to risk uh risk it all really in a sprint um
51:34and i
51:34can't wait to see that you know we've seen some people getting close to the barriers others giving
51:38a bit more space so we don't really know into sq1 we don't uh that's the beauty of it and
51:43that's why we
51:44love sprint weekends and this is the last sprint weekend of the season as crofton was saying we've
51:49uh only had british winners of sprints so far and we had a british leader of the only practice
51:55session in george russell join us to find out who will take the pole for the sprint in a couple
51:59of
