Deep in the constellation Draco lies one of the most terrifying alien worlds ever discovered. Known as TrES-2b, this bizarre gas giant reflects less than one percent of the light that hits it, making it darker than fresh black acrylic paint and darker than coal.

Astronomers discovered TrES-2b in 2006 using the Transatlantic Exoplanet Survey, and later observations from the Kepler Space Telescope confirmed its eerie properties. Located roughly seven hundred and fifty light years away from Earth, the planet is roughly the size of Jupiter, though slightly more massive.

Despite orbiting scorching close to its parent star, it absorbs almost all incoming stellar radiation. Scientists believe vaporized sodium, potassium, or titanium oxide in its atmosphere might trap the light. The planet is so blisteringly hot that it glows with a faint, demonic reddish ember in the deep void of space.
