00:05The LG G6 OLED TV is the latest and greatest flagship TV from OLED using its newest generation
00:11primary RGB tandem 2.0 LED panel and a new generation of powerful image processing. So
00:17naturally, you want to get the best image quality of this new advanced tech. I've been testing the
00:21LG G6 for the last few weeks, so if you're buying one, here are the settings you should choose.
00:28First is picture modes. I typically use filmmaker mode when I'm testing TVs and this is my favourite
00:34picture mode on the G6 for Dolby Vision, regular HDR and SDR. To change the G6's picture mode,
00:40you'll want to press the settings button on the magic remote, which looks like a little cogwheel.
00:44The G6 has a handy quick menu that will pop up in the top left corner of the screen. Here,
00:48you'll want to scroll to picture mode, select it with the middle wheel button on the remote,
00:52and then go left or right, depending on what picture mode you previously had by default.
00:57Then, select filmmaker mode. If you find filmmaker mode to be too dim,
01:01cinema, also called cinema home in HDR and Dolby Vision, is a slightly brighter mode that's still
01:07nice and accurate. If you're planning on using the G6 for sports, while most picture modes are fine,
01:12standard delivers the most pleasing picture across different sports I tried. But in all cases,
01:16you'll want to pick the right motion settings, so let's talk about those next. While filmmaker mode
01:24is pretty accurate out of the box, it looks best if you adjust its motion in the picture settings.
01:29By default, its true motion is set to off, but I prefer to turn on cinematic movement,
01:34which helps remove judders in movies without creating the dreaded soap opera effect. To select this,
01:39press the settings button on the remote, and in the quick menu, navigate to the cog icon at the top
01:44of
01:45the quick menu. This is the all settings menu. Press it. In the full settings menu, select picture
01:51settings and scroll down to advanced settings and select it. Then scroll down to clarity and select
01:57that. Once you're on the next menu, scroll down to the bottom of the page and you'll see the true
02:02motion heading. Select this and choose the cinematic movement option. Then press the back button a
02:08couple of times to close those various menus. For sports, cinematic motion can work, but you can also
02:14change to the natural true motion setting. This appears smoother, and while it's not great for
02:19movies, it works especially well for some sports.
02:24A setting some may find useful, if you use filmmaker mode, is the Filmmaker mode ambient light setting.
02:29Filmmaker mode is often dimmer than other picture modes, but this option adapts to the lighting conditions
02:34of your room. So it looks brighter in a brighter room, to overcome the way ambient light can wash out
02:39the screen. To select it, open up the quick menu and navigate to the all settings icon at the top
02:44and select it. Choose picture on the next menu and scroll to advanced settings. On the next menu, select
02:51brightness. Then scroll until you see Filmmaker mode ambient light, which will have a toggle next to it.
02:59Select it until the toggle turns green. And you're done, so feel free to close out the menu.
03:07Another option I always change is the sound setting. In the past I used to choose the entertainment
03:12preset, but LG has slimmed down the sound modes in the G6 compared to previous TVs. Of the available
03:17options, AI Sound Pro is the best to use with the built-in speakers. I like this setting in last
03:22year's
03:22G5, and it's undergone a profile change this year, delivering a punchier, more direct sound. To change
03:27this, press the settings button, the cog, on the remote and scroll to sound mode. Then, using either
03:34your mouse pointer or the directional buttons on the remote, scroll left or right until you find AI
03:39Sound Pro. Select it and close the menu. You're good to go. Are there any other settings that you
03:45think we should be looking at to change? Let us know in the comments below.
