00:00Hey guys, today I'm going to show you the best settings to change on your LG OLED TV.
00:05I'm demonstrating on the LG B6, a great pick linked below if you're interested,
00:10but you should be able to find these settings on any new LG OLED TV.
00:15Let's get right into it.
00:17First things first, we've got to clean up this homepage.
00:21The ads on LG's webOS interface are brutal.
00:24I mean, nobody wants to turn on their premium TV and get blasted by content
00:29they don't care about, right?
00:30Go to settings, system, additional settings, home settings,
00:36turn off home promotion and content recommendations.
00:40Just like that, all those messy, annoying banners are gone.
00:44You're welcome.
00:46While we're in the hidden menus, let's lock down your privacy and kill the rest of those ads.
00:51Go back one step in that system menu, live plus, turn that off.
00:56If you leave it on, your viewing data gets sent directly to advertisers to target you.
01:01No thank you.
01:03Next, screen saver settings.
01:05See screen saver promotion?
01:07Turn that off too.
01:09Now your TV won't try to sell you stuff when it goes idle.
01:14Now that we're ad free, let's talk about picture quality.
01:19The quickest fix to your LG OLED's performance, brightness especially,
01:22is turning off energy saving mode.
01:26Settings, energy saving, toggle from auto to off.
01:30Out of the box, your OLED TV is restricted to achieve certain energy usage ratings that you see labeled on
01:37the box.
01:37And while I love the environment as much as the next person,
01:41this video is about getting the best picture out of your TV.
01:44Turning this off instantly unlocks the true, vibrant brightness of your OLED panel.
01:49And hey, it's easy enough to toggle back on if you're prioritizing your energy bill.
01:54Another well-intentioned setting secretly sabotaging your picture quality is eye care mode,
01:59or reduce blue light on some firmware versions.
02:03It limits blue light to reduce eye strain, especially if you're watching in the dark.
02:07But in reality, it shifts your entire screen to a super warm, muddy tone.
02:12The fast way is to just bring up your quick settings, eye care tile, toggle it off.
02:19If you don't see the quick tile, go to all settings, picture, advanced settings, toggle reduce blue light off.
02:26Listen, if your eyes are genuinely feeling tired late at night, I get it.
02:31But instead of letting a setting turn your premium OLED yellow,
02:35just turn on a dim lamp or add some bias lighting behind the TV.
02:38Keep those OLED colors crisp.
02:41Next up, another tip for getting realistic colors.
02:45Let's make sure movies actually look like movies.
02:48Settings, picture, advanced settings, scroll down and toggle filmmaker mode auto start to on.
02:55Now, whenever your TV detects a movie playing,
02:58it will automatically switch to the most color accurate profile pre-installed.
03:02It's exactly how the directors intended the film to look.
03:05Pretty cool.
03:07While we're here, we've got to talk about motion smoothing.
03:10Or as some people know it, the dreaded soap opera effect.
03:14Basically, the TV tries to inject fake frames into whatever you're watching to make things look smoother.
03:20But instead of looking natural, it makes a multi-million dollar Hollywood flick look like it was shot on a
03:25cheap 90s camcorder.
03:28LG hides this under a setting called True Motion.
03:31Go to Settings, Picture, Advanced Settings, Clarity, True Motion.
03:37Switch it to Off.
03:39You could set it to cinematic movement if you just want a tiny bit of judder control without the weird
03:44artificial smoothness, but that's your call.
03:47Either way, trust me, the second you turn this off, movies will instantly look right again.
03:53You can play around with the rest of the advanced picture settings, brightness and sharpness toggles, etc.
03:59Until you find a formula that makes your eyes happy.
04:02Would you guys want to see a deeper dive into calibrating an LG OLED?
04:06Tell me in the comments and if you've learned something new in this video so far, let me know by
04:11hitting that like button.
04:15Moving on to some smaller quality of life settings, let's fix the remote.
04:19Look, the LG Magic Remote is solid, but the default cursor speed is hypersensitive.
04:26Sometimes it feels like you're trying to aim a laser pointer during an earthquake.
04:30Let's fix it.
04:31Settings, System Menu, Additional Settings, Pointer Options, Change the Speed from Medium to Slow.
04:38You can also change the pointer size here.
04:41And if you want to get rid of the pointer, you can temporarily disable the pointer by pressing any directional
04:47button, up, down, left or right, on your remote's navigation pad.
04:52The pointer will stay hidden as long as you use the directional buttons.
04:55Next up, let's reorganize your home screen.
04:58For me, I want to bring the inputs to a more convenient location.
05:02Go to your home screen, scroll all the way to the end of your apps and find your inputs.
05:07Hold down the Select button on your remote.
05:10Now you can drag it all the way to the front row.
05:13Do this for your favorite consoles or streaming apps.
05:17While you're here, if you see bloatware apps or realize you have streaming services download you'll never use,
05:22just hit the little trash bin icon above them when you're in this mode to delete them.
05:28Before we leave the home page, move all the way to the left of the screen and then go left
05:32again to reach the widget screen.
05:34Here you can go to the top right, select the pencil icon, and move, remove, or add widgets.
05:40Widgets are a nice way to get easy information at a glance while you are on your home screen,
05:44but don't leave the sun all the time, as you won't want any burn-in.
05:49By default, your TV has a crazy complicated serial number name on your Wi-Fi network.
05:54Let's make it recognizable for AirPlay and Bluetooth purposes.
05:59Settings, Support, TV information.
06:02Click on Device Name and change it to something like Living Room OLED or, hey, have some fun with it.
06:07It is your TV after all.
06:09Now, when you try to cast a video from your phone, you actually know which TV you're sending it to.
06:15Finally, the best thing you can do for your LG OLED TV is keep the software up to date.
06:20Even if you have auto-update turned on, new LG TVs notoriously miss the first update out of the box.
06:28Go to Settings, Support, Software Update, and hit Check for Updates Manually.
06:34Do this from time to time to make sure your TV is always optimized.
06:38And there you have it.
06:40Those are the first things you need to do to completely master your new LG OLED.

06:50And as always, I'm Phil Rodriguez, this is Tom's Guide, and I will see you in the next video.
07:08The TV tries to inject fake frames into whatever...
07:11Basically, the TV...
07:13I had this, like, Trump voice in my head.
07:15Fake frames!
