00:00Marcus Simeon guys let's call it how it is okay did the New York Mets acquire Marcus Simeon solely
00:04for talent or was it more so for contract swap knowing the Mets would save north of 30 million
00:09dollars in differential with Simeon only having two more years left on his deal at the time I was
00:14talking and Nemo having more than two that's really what this boils down to it was about
00:18giving runway to Carson Bench to have opportunity to be a starting outfielder in a spot that would
00:23have otherwise been taken over by someone like Brandon Nemo to start the 2026 season that worked
00:28beautifully for David Stearns the New York Mets and you can give him credit there Marcus Simeon not
00:33only struggled to provide defense which is what he's supposed to be known for his entire career
00:37but he's someone that also moved the needle and know which way shape or form for the club in ways
00:41that you wanted as a veteran now from a mentorship and leadership perspective I'm sure Marcus is
00:46fantastic and inside and out of the clubhouse he was a fantastic captain during his time with the
00:50Texas Rangers helping them to a 2023 World Series championship when he initially signed that massive
00:55north of 200 million dollar long-term contract this is the Robinson Cano situation all over again
01:00everybody okay what do the New York Mets have at second base as David Stearns famously said himself
01:05when saying he's going to be non-committal as to who will be starting at second next year so for
01:10Marcus Simeon who finishes his 2026 campaign with 15 home runs the same that he had last year 49 RBIs
01:16at 215 batting average and batting quite literally 26 percent below league average it's not going to get the job
01:22done for a both net negative offensive and defensive player
01:25you
