00:11Brazil is heading to a presidential runoff after neither Flavio Bolsonaro nor incumbent
00:16president Luis Ináxulo da Silva secured more than 50% plus 1 of the vote required to win on
00:21Sunday's election. With 100% of ballots counted, Bolsonaro was leading with 47.03% while Lula
00:27has 45.16%. The two candidates will face each other again on October 25 when Brazilian voters
00:33will choose the country's next president. The election also included legislative and regional
00:38races where the Liberal Party obtained the largest caucus after placing 28 senators followed by the
00:44Workers' Party with nine. Voting was largely peaceful although heavy ratings caused difficulties in some
00:50parts of the country. Meanwhile, Brazil's electronic voting system allowed authorities to process the
00:55ballots and release preliminary results quickly. Speaking to the press from Brasilia, after the
01:05poll count declared a runoff, far-right presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro held a supposed era of change for the country.
01:13I am very happy about the number of Brazilians who went to the polls to make their voices heard.
01:20Not only because they wanted this change, but also because they wanted the end of the Workers' Party
01:25era. The end of the Workers' Party era has been decreed. This marks a new chapter for our country.
01:34Meanwhile, from Sao Paulo, president and presidential runoff candidate Luis Ináxulo da Silva, alongside his
01:40running mate Geraldo Admin, addressed reporters with a message of optimism, saying that they are ready to begin the
01:45new chapter of campaigning ahead of October 25th runoff.
01:52We have more than 20 million people who did not vote. In fact, the number is closer to 28 or
01:5929 million.
02:02We want to appeal to these voters and remind them that, at this historic moment for Brazil, every vote matters
02:08in
02:09determining the future of our country.
02:15But we have the second round. And the second round is when we're really put to the test.
02:24It's the moment for us to show the true picture of Brazil today and the Brazil we want.
02:29So, starting tomorrow, we begin a new campaign.
02:33A gente começa uma nova campanha.
