00:00The night before the wedding, a freak car accident turned my fiancé into a complete stranger, cold, distant, with no
00:08memory of me.
00:09The doctor explained it was damage to his central nervous system, and the only cure was to stimulate his brain,
00:15and coax those lost memories back to the surface.
00:19I swallowed it all, hook, line, and sinker.
00:23Elwood, you're a genius, faking your own crash and bribing some quack doctor.
00:27Now, even if you went totally wild right up to the wedding, Justine would forgive you in a heartbeat.
00:32Their laughter exploded, freezing me in my tracks. I couldn't make sense of it. My brain just short-circled.
00:38It was all an elaborate con, masterminded by Elwood Matthews.
00:42You love your little games, don't you? Let's see if trading our wedding for a funeral pack's enough of a
00:46punch.
00:47Listen, hear what Elwood has to say.
00:49Right, Elwood, how long are you going to keep this charade going before snapping back to normal?
00:54A month.
00:54On our wedding day, I'll head back to Justine's side, and resume being her devoted, one and only husband.
01:02Isn't that cutting it too short? You've already hooked up with so many influencers, a single month won't be nearly
01:07enough.
01:07Why not just dump her, all this hassle to keep it from Justine?
01:10Don't ditch the whole forest for one tree.
01:13Elwood, you chased her for three years, dated for seven, that's a full decade.
01:18If she catches wind of this little escapade and it all blows up, wouldn't you lose everything?
01:24I'll never split with Justine.
01:26She's the only one I love.
01:28It's just, after ten years together, things have gone flat.
01:31She's too uptight.
01:32Our life lacks, lacks any real excitement.
01:34Consider this my last hurrah before the wedding.
01:37I'll reclaim all the youthful fun I missed out on over those ten years.
01:40Once the month's up, I'll miraculously remember her right there at the ceremony, talk about the surprise of a lifetime,
01:46right?
01:47Genius! Pure genius!
01:49But what if it backfires and everything comes out?
01:54Who else would Justine ever marry?
01:57She's mine, in life or death.
01:59No matter how far she flees, to the ends of the earth I'll haul her back.
02:03So, overbearing, just what you'd expect from, I staggered out of the villa in a daze.
02:09As I plunged into the rain, fat drops smacked against my face, freezing cold.
02:15But they paled compared to the ice gripping my heart.
02:18My hands shook, my vision swam.
02:21Not from the rain, but from the flood of tears.
02:24Dust-covered memories burst forth, crashing over me like waves.
02:29I'm going to win you over.
02:31Back then, Elwood's rep around school was trash, so I shot him down without a second thought.
02:37But he clung to me like a shadow, impossible to shake.
02:41When I got sick, he nursed me with endless care.
02:44He made grand public declarations of love in front of the entire school.
02:49He picked jealous fights that landed him in trouble.
02:52Coming out all black and blue, which was equal parts ridiculous and endearing,
02:56until it finally melted my defenses.
02:58And then on, your dance is only for me.
03:02He promised eternal love for me alone.
03:04I said yes, that was, until the car crashed just before our wedding.
03:09When he came to, he was like a stranger, denying I was even his fiancée and cozying up to a
03:16parade of women.
03:17I didn't hold it against him.
03:19Head injuries took time to heal after all.
03:21If only I'd known the accident, the doctor's, every bit of it, was a sham, a meticulously crafted lie so
03:29he could cheat openly, without a shred of remorse.
03:32In that moment, the grit and belief that had sustained me shattered into pieces.
03:37I sobbed in the rain for ages, like a gutless stray stripped of its spine.
03:44But eventually, I resolved, this time, I'd rise as a fierce, roaring lion.
03:51Elwood, I was done with you.
03:53No umbrella in the rain?
03:54Some kind of performance art?
04:00Bruce, Bruce, what are you doing here?
04:06Where's that punk Elwood?
04:08How could he leave you out here getting drenched by yourself?
04:12It's not his fault.
04:14Already sticking up for him, and you're not even hitched yet.
04:17Well, here's to growing old together and...
04:23And wedded bliss.
04:25We won't get that far.
04:28Congratulations.
04:35As I ignored the icy chill seeping through my soaked clothes,
04:40the first thing I did when I got home was call to ask about changing my name.
04:44The person on the other end listed out the documents I'd need, and told me to stop by tomorrow.
04:50Next, book a flight.
04:52My dream destination for ages, ANTA.
04:54I set it for the day after the wedding.
04:57I wouldn't just disappear without a word.
04:59The me showing up at the wedding?
05:02That'd be my corpse.
05:14What are you up to?
05:17None of your concern.
05:19Justine, watch your tone.
05:21You keep harming on about being my fiancé, but when I got into that car accident, it was Patricia who
05:26looked after me.
05:26Marrying you at all is me doing you a huge favor.
05:29Nice performance.
05:30Even the doctor was bogus.
05:32The entire car accident story was made up from whole cloth.
05:35Hi, I'm Patricia Carter.
05:37I hope I'm not causing you any trouble.
05:43Elwood, your part in my script was done.
05:46She brought me home.
05:48Shouldn't I be pitching a jealous fit and making a scene?
05:51How could she stay so composed?
05:57From here on out, leave Justine alone.
06:00You hear me?
06:01If you've got Justine in your heart, why stick up for me?
06:05Can't stand the thought of losing me?
06:07You know damn well.
06:08Why even ask?
06:13Aren't I enough for you?
06:14Why keep her picture around?
06:16Total buzz killer.
06:26Screw that thing.
06:27A moment like this is priceless.
06:30Let's not waste it.
06:39The noise they were making was impossible to ignore, even from several rooms down the hall.
06:44I caught every cringe car-gring detail.
06:47Along with the fury boiling inside me, there was a deep, aching sorrow.
06:52You couldn't just erase ten years of feelings overnight.
06:54Those cherished memories were now in shards, tearing my heart to pieces.
07:01But this wasn't the moment to barge in and start a screaming match.
07:05In just two more weeks, I'd deliver a wedding he'd remember for the rest of his life.
07:15Hope Elford and I didn't ruin your beauty rest, Justine.
07:18Beat it.
07:19Aw, you are so mean.
07:23Oh yeah, I sent you a WhatsApp friend request.
07:26Go ahead and accept.
07:28Not interested.
07:29Don't shoot it down so fast.
07:31I've got something juicy for you to check out.
07:43Delete me, and you'll kick yourself later.
07:48Losing my cool and exploding would play right into her hands.
08:06Baby, don't be mad.
08:09Justine and I have just been together so long we have to get married, but you're the only one I
08:12love in my heart.
08:14We'll be together forever.
08:16Those last words rang a bell.
08:17He'd said something like that to me once, too.
08:24Maybe I'd been holding on too tight.
08:26Stuck on the guy I'd fallen for back at the beginning.
08:30Elwood's totally wiped out and snoring away.
08:41In the face of her obvious baiting, I didn't bite.
08:43I just downloaded the photos and video screenshot and saved every last message.
08:48Swapping insults was a waste of time.
08:50I was aiming for a total takedown.
08:52It wasn't long before Patricia went radio silent.
08:55My stonewalling probably left her feeling she'd swung at nothing but air.
09:00Outside, fireworks burst across the sky, and amid the ear-slouting pops,
09:05I stumbled back to bed like a clockwork toy on its last turn.
09:09Over the next few days, as I went to the police station to change my name,
09:13I connected through back panels with a company that specialized in faking deaths.
09:18The method we'd go with?
09:19A staged suicide by jumping into the sea.
09:22I wired the deposit immediately, and they rang me on an encrypted line,
09:26their voice obviously altered.
09:32The company representative, Ms. Decker, one final confirmation.
09:35Death date is your wedding day.
09:36Location is the Crown Hotel in Erberg City.
09:39If that's all set, the contract activates right away.
09:41Yep. Confirmed.
09:42Great. Wishing you a vibrant new life ahead.
09:51Once the call wrapped, I headed over to the hotel to scout it out in advance.
09:56Perched right on the water's edge, the Crown Hotel was unmatched in Ergbert City.
10:01Elwood and I had booked the top floor for the wedding,
10:04complete with a sprawling terrace that extended out over the ocean.
10:08Ideal for what I had in mind.
10:10How about switching out tomorrow's Sweet Moments video with this one?
10:13I want to surprise him.
10:19Such a breathtaking, postcard-perfect place.
10:23Fitting that I'd chosen it as my symbolic burial ground.
10:28Where have you been?
10:30What's up?
10:31I've got a gift for you.
10:34Gift?
10:35Was I hearing things?
10:37Pigs must be flying today.
10:40The doctor says my recovery is coming along nicely.
10:42Bits and pieces from our past are starting to come back.
10:46But don't get too excited.
10:47This necklace doesn't mean I've let bygones be bygones.
10:50It was pure fabrication, spouted with righteous indignation.
10:55Recovery, give me a break.
10:56This was just his post-cheating guilt kicking in.
10:59Cut to the chase if there's something on your mind.
11:03Grandpa and Grandma want to see us.
11:05Pass.
11:07Justine, stop being difficult.
11:09I get it.
11:10You're bitter that Patricia's the one I love now.
11:13Look in the mirror.
11:14She never backs me into corners like you do.
11:16You won't even visit Grandpa and Grandma.
11:18Do you want this marriage or not?
11:21Guess before the big day, I needed to cock in one final time
11:24as the perfect Matthews family bride to May.
11:27Calling off the wedding now would ruin everything.
11:31Fine.
11:32Let's go.
11:36At 8 o'clock in the evening,
11:38Elwood and I arrived at the Matthews family estate
11:40on the outskirts of town.
11:43The house looked warm and welcoming,
11:45but we walked to the door in silence,
11:47careful not to get too close.
11:49The moment Sandra saw me,
11:51she hurried over with a big smile
11:53and clasped both of my hands.
11:56Justine's arrived.
11:57It's nippy out there.
11:58Hurry inside.
12:01Sandra pulled me down to sit beside her,
12:03holding my hand the entire time,
12:05as if she already regarded me
12:07as a member of the Matthews family.
12:09Justine, be patient with him.
12:12Elwood took a nasty hit to the head.
12:14The doc mentioned today that he's improving steadily.
12:18Once you're hitched,
12:20the Matthews family will make sure
12:22you're well looked after.
12:25Inside, several relatives gathered around,
12:28eagerly urging us to marry soon
12:30and reminding me to be patient
12:32with the recovering Elwood.
12:34What a freak accident.
12:37No one saw that coming.
12:39Gerald nodded along.
12:40I answered with a gentle smile,
12:43playing the obedient future granddaughter-in-law perfectly.
12:49Just then, the front door opened.
12:52Patra stepped inside wearing a carefully chosen dress.
12:59Elwood's expression darkened for a slip second
13:02before he forced himself to look calm again.
13:06Hi, I'm Elwood's friend.
13:09Hope you don't mind me showing up unannounced.
13:11It's fine, dear.
13:13Relax and feel at home.
13:16Then Patricia walked straight to the sofa
13:18and sat so close to Elwood
13:19that their shoulders nearly touched.
13:24Justine, you and Elwood should hurry up
13:26and schedule those wedding photos.
13:28You're such a perfect match.
13:31They'll come out beautifully.
13:41Justine, how'd you like those pics
13:42I sent over the other night?
13:46What pics?
13:47Well, Justine is about to walk down the aisle,
13:50so I picked out some stunning wedding gown shots
13:52just for her.
13:53What else would they be?
13:54Elwood and I in the wee hours?
13:56By now, I'd become desensitized to this nonsense.
13:58The others' expressions were a mix
14:00of hilarious discomfort,
14:01yet nobody stepped in to stop it.
14:02They all chose to ignore
14:04the blatant flirting folding right in front of them.
14:06After all, Elwood was their grandson,
14:08nephew, brother.
14:09Me?
14:09I was still the outsider.
14:12Elwood's a good kid deep down.
14:14That head injury means
14:16he's not always himself these days.
14:18You two have history.
14:19Sometimes turning a blind eye
14:21is what keeps the family together
14:22and things humming along.
14:24You're right.
14:33Underground parking garage.
14:35An invitation to watch the show, eh?
14:37Who was I to turn it down?
14:45A pound still hit my chest.
14:47Clearly.
14:48I needed it a little more time
14:50to fully process this portrayal.
14:56A spectacle this juicy,
14:58I couldn't hog it all to myself.
15:00I'd have to share it
15:01with those relatives and friends from earlier
15:03so they could appreciate
15:04Elwood's heroic performance in action.
15:11My legs had gone numb from all that standing
15:14and I wasn't in any rush to get home.
15:17I decided to hop on a bus instead
15:19just to clear my mind.
15:21Didn't matter where it was headed.
15:24But no bus came along.
15:30Elwood had to dash off for something.
15:32Hop in.
15:33I'll give you a lift.
15:34We're headed to the same spot anyway.
15:36No thanks.
15:39The whole thing just felt too sleazy.
15:42Fine.
15:43If you won't get in,
15:44I'll come out to you.
15:48What do you want?
15:49Chill, Justine.
15:50I'm not here to bite your head off,
15:52but the three of us need to hash this out.
15:54Wouldn't it be smarter to clear the air right now?
15:56I've got zero to say to you.
15:59Doesn't matter.
16:00I'll just shadow you then.
16:01Go wherever you go,
16:02whatever you do,
16:03till you give in.
16:04Being the other woman was one thing,
16:06but this kind of shameless nerf,
16:08we hit a deadlock.
16:16You figured out Elwood was faking it ages ago, right?
16:20Why not confront him?
16:21He warned you to steer clear of me.
16:23How'd you forget that so quick?
16:25Because I want to be Mrs. Matthews too.
16:27The real deal.
16:28Out in the open for everyone to see.
16:30Then have at it.
16:32But that's not up to you.
16:33And it's not up to me.
16:37It's called Dream's Tear.
16:39Elwood shelled out millions at auction
16:41to snag it for me.
16:42Got anything like that, Justine?
16:53I'll buy it for you on our wedding day.
16:55A proof of our forever love.
16:59Memories hit you when you least expected it.
17:02Must have been five years back.
17:04I'd spotted this iconic necklace in a magazine
17:07and fallen head over wheels.
17:11When Elwood found out,
17:12he vowed to buy it for me on our wedding day
17:14as proof of our forever love.
17:17Guess he didn't forget.
17:18He just gave it to someone else.
17:20Nope.
17:21Congrats.
17:22From there,
17:23no matter how much she need me,
17:25I clammed up,
17:26eventually closing my eyes
17:27and pretending she didn't exist.
17:29My stone-cold ignore really got to her.
17:32As we approached the next turn,
17:33Patrica steeled herself,
17:35yanked the wheel hard-washed,
17:36and slammed straight into a utility pole.
17:38The impact shattered the windshield.
17:40I threw my arms up on instinct
17:42as glass shards slashed into them
17:44like knives,
17:45hot blood dripping down.
17:46Everything spun wildly,
17:48the airbag smashing into my face.
17:50Right before I lost consciousness,
17:52I caught sight of the Dream's Tear
17:54dangling near my fingertips.
17:56With the last ounce of energy I had,
17:58I pushed it away.
17:59Then everything went black.
18:05I passed out cold,
18:07in a hospital ward,
18:08time blurred.
18:09It was like getting lost in the wilderness
18:11with no sense of days turning into years.
18:13I couldn't tell how much later it was
18:15when a buzz of voices
18:16dragged me back to awareness.
18:18My eyelids weighed a ton.
18:19I couldn't force them open,
18:21just picking up scraps of sound nearby.
18:23Mr. Matthews,
18:23both patients are in critical shape,
18:25but we've only got one surgeon on hand
18:27who can handle this.
18:28because whoever doesn't get operated on right away
18:30risks permanent disability.
18:32You have to decide now.
18:33A heavy silence stretched out,
18:35quiet enough that you could almost feel
18:36his turmoil churning inside.
18:38Sleepiness started pulling me under again,
18:41until Elwood's words snapped me wide open.
18:43Save Patricia first.
18:45Those little words felt like a death sentence,
18:47but his choice didn't surprise me one bit.
18:50It was just a shame, really.
18:51A shame that my plan had gone up in smoke.
18:54Elwood, this whole thing's blown up big time.
18:56How are you planning to clean it up?
18:58And why prioritize Patricia?
18:59Are you trying to get Justine killed or something?
19:01How could I ever hurt her?
19:02I love her way too much.
19:04Once we're married,
19:05I'll get the best doctors to fix her up properly.
19:07No issues.
19:08Besides, we've still got over 10 days.
19:09I just want to have a bit more fun while I can.
19:11Patricia's been with me all this time.
19:13I can't give her any real status,
19:15and I damn well can't let her end up ruined.
19:17Aren't you worried Justine will find out?
19:19She won't.
19:20I've got everything under control.
19:21Come wedding day,
19:22I'll fully recover, just like before.
19:24Plus, I ordered this huge diamond ring.
19:27She'll love it.
19:28His voice sounded so certain,
19:30so absurdly, frighteningly certain.
19:33And I lay there, listening to every word,
19:35unable to move, unable to speak.
19:38Their conversation started to fade
19:40as the anesthesia kicked in again,
19:42dragging me back into unconsciousness.
19:45I drifted into a long dream.
19:47I had a dream.
19:49I was piecing together a giant puzzle,
19:52Elwood's portrait,
19:53but the piece for the heart was missing.
19:55No matter how hard I searched,
19:57it was gone.
19:57If that puzzle piece was gone,
19:59then forget it.
20:01I didn't need it anymore.
20:03You're awake.
20:06Bruce?
20:08From now on,
20:09checks every half hour.
20:10Make absolutely sure
20:12there are no long-term issues.
20:17What's your relationship to the patient?
20:20I'm her guardian.
20:26Have I already had the surgery?
20:29Who's been taking care of me these past few days?
20:31Mr. Matthews, obviously.
20:33The one who just left.
20:34He lost it when he heard about the accident.
20:37Pulled together every specialist in Erbard City
20:39in under half an hour.
20:40Hasn't slept in more than 24 hours.
20:43Thanks.
20:44Bruce scared me a little,
20:45but I tucked away this favor deep in my heart.
20:49I would repay it someday.
20:51For sure.
20:57I had been so thrilled back then,
20:59daydreaming about our married life.
21:01I never imagined that in just a few months,
21:04our 10-year relationship would fall apart completely.
21:14Naughty boy.
21:16Why bring me here?
21:17Where Justine and I tie the knot tomorrow.
21:19Then I can pretend the setting triggers my memories.
21:22Recall everything naturally
21:24and ease right back into life with her.
21:26Right now,
21:27you're standing in for her.
21:29Let's rehearse it once to work out any glitches.
21:32I had to admit,
21:33these two really had talent.
21:35Especially that dramatic,
21:37kneel-down confession,
21:38repenting for his amnesia.
21:39If I didn't know better,
21:41I might have fallen for it completely.
21:45If you ever get restless later on,
21:47you can always call me.
21:49There won't be a later.
21:50I told you,
21:52tomorrow ends it all.
21:53After that,
21:54I'm committed to Justine for good.
21:55Drop the schemes.
21:57Tonight's your last,
21:58then you're gone.
21:59Is that so?
22:00You've had your fun,
22:01and now you want to crawl back like nothing happened?
22:04Let me down with your reaction tomorrow.
22:06Elwood,
22:07goodbye forever.
22:09That night,
22:10I cleaned the villa from top to bottom,
22:12packed up my bags,
22:13and sent them off via international shipping,
22:16wiping away every last sign that I'd ever lived there.
22:19Elwood wasn't around.
22:20Everything went smoothly.
22:24Confirmed.
22:24New ID,
22:26new number,
22:26and the flight to Anta,
22:28everything for tomorrow.
22:30A brand new life was just ahead.
22:33For the first time in forever,
22:35a real smile crept across my face.
22:40What's Elwood's deal?
22:41Did he sleep through his alarm on a day like this?
22:44Call him already.
22:45This is absurd.
22:48It had rain overnight,
22:50so the day turned out clear and mild.
22:53Ideal weather for saying goodbye.
23:03Sorry, Justine.
23:04I'm late.
23:06Elwood, you remember everything now?
23:10Grandma,
23:11it's all flooding back.
23:12Justine's the one I truly love.
23:18The players were all in place.
23:20The real show was about to start.
23:23Congratulations to the bride and groom.
23:25After a decade-long romance,
23:27today you seal the deal.
23:30Elwood, do you take Justine as your wife
23:32in sickness and in health?
23:34Love, honor, and cherish her always.
23:38I do.
23:40I do not.
23:46Justine, what did you just say?
23:48I said I don't.
23:50Justine, Elwood was only half an hour late.
23:52You don't have to call off the whole wedding
23:53just for that, right?
23:55Justine, look, I know I've been distant,
23:58but the doctor already...
23:59You mean you're cleared?
24:01You got your memory back
24:02and now it's happily ever after?
24:03But I don't want you anymore, Elwood.
24:06I'm setting you free.
24:11What are you talking about?
24:12Did you forget our vows?
24:14We're supposed to grow old to Algether.
24:16This Arafi, I can make you happy.
24:19You're mine.
24:20Only mine.
24:27Enjoying the show?
24:29Shut it off.
24:31Turn it off right now.
24:32I rigged the USB with a virus.
24:34It wasn't going down that easy.
24:43The chaos down there was exactly what I wanted.
24:46Time to take the plunge.
24:47Hey, look!
24:48What the hell is Justine doing?
24:53So broken.
24:54Heartbreak is the ultimate torture.
24:56And now,
24:57it's yours to be.
25:02Bruce, he's too impulsive.
25:03He's throwing his life away.
25:04Don't sweat it.
25:05He's a champion swimmer.
25:06He can handle the Pacific Ocean.
25:07No problem.
25:08The hotel has a rescue team.
25:10There's still time to fissure out.
25:18Not even a hair.
25:19A full-grown person just gone without a trace.
25:22It was flat-out weird.
25:36I should have seen it.
25:37I should have known.
25:46Elwood, you chill out.
25:47Don't come closer.
25:48Justine's job isn't on me.
25:50I can explain.
25:52Please, just listen.
25:53I've told you a million times.
25:54Leave her alone.
25:55Why the fuck did you send her that shit?
25:57This is all you.
25:58You killed Justine.
25:59It's your fault.
26:00Hear me out.
26:01She friend me first.
26:02She's known you were bullshitting her from the start.
26:05I only sent that because I love you too much.
26:07I couldn't take it and just lost it for a minute.
26:17Adultery wasn't enough.
26:19Now you're gunning for murderer.
26:21Justine, stop scaring me like this.
26:22Come back, please.
26:23I get it.
26:24I fucked up.
26:25Punish me however you want.
26:26Anything.
26:26I'm begging you.
26:27Don't do this.
26:27I'm trash.
26:28I know.
26:29Hit me.
26:30Yell at me.
26:31Why jump?
26:33Save the waterworks and head home.
26:35See if she left any clues.
26:36No body's turned up yet.
26:37Hope's not lost.
26:43Grandma, I was with your grandson for two whole months.
26:46Cut me some slack this once.
26:47I promise I'll disappear forever.
26:49Gone for good.
26:50Call her back and keep her under lock and key.
26:51The Matthews family have plenty of time to even the score.
27:02Greed knows no bounds.
27:04She had it coming.
27:08This wedding's gonna drag the Matthews family name through the mud.
27:11But that bride leaping from up there without batting an eye?
27:15She must have been beyond desperate.
27:18Shush.
27:19Make your excuses and get out.
27:21Don't get caught in the crossfire.
27:28Something's not right, bro.
27:29You positive Justine was crashing in this room?
27:31Not a single hair in sight.
27:32I even yanked over in the bathroom drain.
27:34Spotless cleaner than my mug.
27:35She must have cleared out early.
27:36No way someone just poofs into thin air.
27:39Come on, man.
27:40Pull it together.
27:41There's still options.
27:42If push comes to shove, we'll suit up and search the ocean.
27:44Justine was head over hills for you.
27:46Maybe this is just some elaborate mind game to yank your chain.
27:49That photo!
27:51Where the hell is it?
27:52I tossed it right in here.
27:53Come on.
27:53Show up, only.
27:55Mr. Matthews, what on earth's happened?
27:57Where's it all?
27:57The photo from the trash.
27:58The photo?
27:59We empty the bats every day, just like the order.
28:01Never laid eyes on any photo.
28:10The seawater had been icy cold, chilling me to the bone.
28:13But it was worth every second.
28:14Clutching my new ID and passport, I was ready to turn the page and start a whole new chapter.
28:19After over 10 hours in the sky, the plane landed in Anta just as dawn broke.
28:23A brand new life was waiting for me on the other side.
28:27Ms. Aisha Mendez, how long are you planning to stay in Anta?
28:30Hello, I've got an acceptance from the Keto University.
28:33I'll be here until I finish my degree.
28:36Aisha, that long flight must have worn you out.
28:38The landlord gave me the keys, I'll take you straight there.
28:40Thanks, Pascualo.
28:41Outside the land, hearing my native tongue felt like warring yet gorgeous,
28:44mirroring my jumble of anxiety and anticipation.
28:51Asha, come on in, it's freezing out.
28:54Hey, Asha, your name hinted at a total beauty, and damn, it wasn't wrong.
28:57Hi, Alfredo, thank you.
28:59The meal was full of easy laughter and warmth.
29:01Virginia's dishes were incredible.
29:03I'd had no appetite the day before, but today I scarped down two heaping plates.
29:07In this foreign land, I found a warmth I hadn't expected.
29:12Day one, I effortlessly blended into the international student scene
29:16and hit it off with a slew of new pals.
29:19Between classes, I snatched some part-time jobs for pocket money.
29:22The work stalled-grimed was actually pretty enjoyable.
29:29Asha, ever dated anyone?
29:31Come on, dish on the drama if you've got stories.
29:33It's dated?
29:35Honey, I'd taken it to the extreme,
29:37leaping into the sea on our wedding day to fake my own death.
29:40The truth was too embarrassing to admit.
29:42I figured I'd take that secret to the grave.
29:46Looks like Aisha's tale isn't one for the books.
29:48Want to hear mine instead?
29:56Today's topic hit a sore spot for you, huh, Aisha?
30:00Mind your own business, kid.
30:02I'm no kid.
30:02You can lean on me, you know.
30:07My death had blown up the Ergberg web.
30:10A bride jumped into the sea on her wedding day
30:12while the big screen aired a raunchy video
30:14of the groom in bed with another woman.
30:16And he was the Matthews Group's golden boy.
30:18The scandal was massive,
30:20dominating cut headlines across every platform.
30:23Thanks for the outrage, internet strangers,
30:25but no need to drag them down with me.
30:27Elwood and Patricia had become public enemies number one.
30:30The Matthews Group stocks were tanking hard,
30:33with unimaginable losses.
30:37Never pegged him for a performance artist.
30:39Which one was grandma up there?
30:41If she'd still been alive,
30:43I never would have fallen for that con so badly.
30:45Thinking back on those 30 days
30:47of putting on an act with Elwood
30:49still gave me the creeps.
30:51But thankfully, that chapter was closed.
30:55Aisha's fresh start was just getting underway.
31:01Any news yet?
31:04You've got some nerve asking that!
31:07You trashed the Matthews family's hundred-year legacy
31:10over one woman!
31:13You know what people are saying out there?
31:14How do you even dare show your face?
31:19Take it easy, Mrs. Matthews!
31:21Don't work yourself up and make yourself sick!
31:23He's just young and foolish.
31:24Once the storm passes, it'll all fade away.
31:27Justine's been missing for over a month now.
31:29No trace, alive or dead.
31:32Come on, bro,
31:32no sense in putting all your eggs in one basket.
31:35Yeah, you could snag any girl you want.
31:38Why put yourself through this hell?
31:42He'd heard variations of this a thousand times before,
31:46but none of it stuck.
31:47It all blew right past him.
31:49Nobody understood the fixation burning inside him.
31:53A ten-year bond wasn't something you could shatter
31:55with a pep talk.
31:56When are you going to snap out of this?
31:58Look at yourself.
31:59Do you look anything like the future head of this family?
32:01If I tried matchmaking you now,
32:03no respectable family would touch you
32:05with a ten-foot pole.
32:06You're our only heir!
32:08Keep acting like this,
32:08and you might as well drop the Matthews' name!
32:14Watching him grip the edge of the bed,
32:16trembling as he stood.
32:19You guys, don't just stand there.
32:21Help me brainstorm.
32:23His friends exchanged a hopeless glance,
32:25and one of them sighed.
32:26Man, you're really digging in your heels, aren't you?
32:29Let's be real.
32:30Justine's probably gone for good.
32:3299% chance.
32:34Another friend sighed helplessly,
32:36lowering his voice.
32:40Your grandma's already lining up a potential girlfriend for you.
32:43He froze for a second,
32:44then let out a cold sneer.
32:47With my reputation in the gutter,
32:49who'd even say yes?
32:50Sure, the upper crust is off-limits,
32:53but the Matthews family was rolling in dough.
32:55His eyes turned piercingly cold,
32:57his voice low and resolute.
33:00Even if Justine is truly gone,
33:02I'm not going near any of them.
33:06His friends started getting anxious,
33:08talking over each other.
33:10Since when did you become such a die-hard romantic?
33:14Plus, even if Justine showed up again,
33:17her family's no match for ours.
33:19Elwood's face darkened instantly.
33:21His fists clenched slowly.
33:23If you're in, help out.
33:25If not, beat it.
33:26Justine's the only woman I'll ever marry.
33:28Period.
33:30They exchanged awkward glances,
33:32sighed bitterly.
33:34Elwood was left alone,
33:35sitting isolated in the dead silence.
33:39Elwood closed his eyes.
33:41Tears slipped silencely.
33:44Our first encounter.
33:46The promises.
33:47In the end, he was left sobbing.
33:57Mr. Matthews,
33:58we've gone through it all.
33:59No trace of Ms. Decker
34:00leaving via Urgabet City Airport,
34:02train station, or bus depot.
34:16Dig into the surname Mendez
34:18and step on it.
34:20As winter turned to spring,
34:22time flew by
34:23and I fully settled into life here.
34:27I attended classes on time every day,
34:30took on part-time jobs during my downstime,
34:32and when I felt like it,
34:34I'd round up a few friends for dinner.
34:36Overall, I was quite happy
34:38with how things were going.
34:39My next big goal
34:40was securing permanent residency.
34:42There wasn't much left to miss
34:43back across the ocean anyway.
34:48Aisha, you have to see this.
34:49This story is absolutely insane.
34:51I can't believe I'm only hearing
34:53about this bombshell now.
35:00You guys are so late to the party
35:02I heard about this ages ago.
35:04Oh, come on!
35:05Holding out on us with the good stuff?
35:08That Elwood is total trash.
35:10Cheating behind her back
35:11and then acting like the victim.
35:12He can screw off.
35:13At least the girl discovered the truth
35:15before tying the knot.
35:16But jumping into the ocean
35:17over a loser like him?
35:19Not worth it at all.
35:20She's practically a hero.
35:22I almost want to hop on a plane back home
35:24and pay my respects by the shore.
35:25All that flying back and forth is a pain.
35:27Just look it up online.
35:28I was not even dead.
35:30What was there to pay respects to?
35:32But seriously,
35:34I want to know her full name,
35:35what she looks like.
35:37She's incredibly brave.
35:41Guess what I dug up.
35:56Whoops!
35:56My bad.
35:57I mixed it up.
35:58Nothing to see here.
36:04What's going on?
36:05My buddy back home
36:06uncovered some inside scoot.
36:08The girl who jumped
36:08is named Justine, but...
36:10You two look uncrinyly similar.
36:12Do you know her, Aisha?
36:14Really?
36:14Let me take a look.
36:21Justine was my old name.
36:22After jumping into the sea,
36:24I changed it and came to Antau.
36:27What?
36:28What?
36:28So...
36:29You really are the same person.
36:31You mean the whole
36:32jumping in into the sea thing
36:33was just a ruse
36:34to make them think you were dead?
36:36Yeah.
36:38Oh, wait.
36:39Yeah.
36:40If you just dumped him,
36:41he'd probably have stalked you non-stop.
36:42This way,
36:43it's a clean break once and for all.
36:46It was a hassle,
36:47for sure.
36:48A lot of things didn't go as planned.
36:50But now that I'm all the way out here abroad,
36:52it should be okay.
36:55You know what you have to do, right?
36:58Don't worry, Aisha.
36:59I'll keep my mouth shut tight.
37:00But from what I've seen in the news,
37:01this blew up huge.
37:02It looks like he doesn't buy that you're dead.
37:04He's probably holding out hope to track you down.
37:06There are tons of people at school.
37:07What if someone else recognizes you like I did?
37:10What then?
37:12It'll be fine.
37:13He has no idea I changed my name.
37:15For now,
37:16I'll just lay low,
37:17bundle up when I go out,
37:18and if it comes to it,
37:19I can always get plastic surgery.
37:21I guess that's the only option.
37:23It's just an ex-boyfriend.
37:24No need to jump at every shadow.
37:27But he doesn't strike me as normal at all.
37:29I'm seriously scared
37:30he might come after you for revenge.
37:32I won't let that happen.
37:33No way.
37:36So, should I call you Justine?
37:39Or Aisha?
37:41If you use my old name,
37:42what's the point of changing it?
37:44Right, right.
37:45Aisha, keep looking ahead.
37:46You've already gotten through
37:47the darkest part of your life.
37:50The future's bound to be bright.
37:53You've got a way with words.
37:56Having been around the block,
37:58I could read his intentions loud and clear.
38:00But I didn't have the energy
38:01to dive into another relationship.
38:03betting it all on an uncertain ending.
38:06To avoid any unnecessary drama,
38:08I kept my distance.
38:09He lay on my bed,
38:10replaying our memories over and over,
38:12his eyes long since cried dry.
38:14That rock-solid resolve to find me
38:15had finally crumbled
38:16under waves of breakdown and despair.
38:18The once dashing prince of Urgelt City
38:20now looked haggard,
38:21like a man with one foot in the grave.
38:24Elwood!
38:25Massive news!
38:26We might have a lead on Justine!
38:30Spill it!
38:31Where'd you find her?
38:32A buddy told me.
38:33Bruce spotted a girl overseas
38:34who looks exactly like Justine.
38:36He's already headed to Anta.
38:38Bruce, he's searching for Justine too?
38:40Yeah, my friend's on his team.
38:42It's the real deal.
38:43Hold up, Elwood.
38:44Patricia's still locked down
38:45at the Matthews family.
38:46How do you expect to bring her back
38:47without handling that first?
38:48Look, just go for broke.
38:49Ship her overseas
38:50and make her vanish for good.
38:52Show Justine your sincerity
38:53and she'll be way more likely
38:55to forgive you.
38:56You're right.
38:56I'll handle it myself.
39:02Why have you been avoiding me?
39:04I haven't.
39:06Just been swamped lately.
39:07What brings you here?
39:09I've been waiting here for you forever.
39:12What's going on?
39:14I've been brainstorming ways
39:15to help you ditch your ex.
39:19Aisha, I know you've been through hell
39:21and you're wary of new relationships
39:22but that's fine.
39:24I'll stick by you and help you heal
39:26one step at a time.
39:28Honestly, I fell for you
39:29the second I saw you.
39:30I want to protect you.
39:32You're an amazing girl.
39:33You don't deserve that kind of treatment.
39:35If I let you go,
39:36I'd regret it for the rest of my life.
39:37Give me a shot.
39:38I'm not just some little brother to you.
39:40I'm a guy who steps up
39:41even if it's only a chance
39:42to pursue you, okay?
39:43I'd prepped my rejection speech
39:44words right on the tip of my tongue
39:46and just say them
39:47but my mouth clamped shut
39:48refusing to budge.
39:50Come on, you idiot.
39:51Speak up.
39:58She doesn't want to.
40:01I wasn't onto, wasn't I?
40:03How on earth could I be hearing that voice?
40:05Was it all in my head?
40:07I didn't dare look back
40:08scared that I'd lock eyes
40:09with that stone-cold face
40:11and watch my hard-won peace shatter.
40:26I've finally found you.
40:28Bru-Bruce, you've mistaken me
40:30for someone else.
40:34Shall we chat?
40:37You're freaking out, my friend.
40:38Who the hell are you?
40:44She knows exactly who I am.
40:46Dodging the issue won't make it go away.
40:48Even with a new name and look,
40:49I'm here from the Matthews family
40:50to offer you some real closure.
40:54I don't want any closure.
40:55I'm content with my life here.
40:58Fair enough, I respect that.
40:59But I did bring this stuff
41:01you left behind at the office.
41:02It's in the car.
41:03I'll hand it over
41:03and be on my way.
41:04You won't say no to that, will you?
41:08My ride's not for you.
41:10It's okay.
41:11He won't do anything to me.
41:13Relax.
41:26Where's my things?
41:30You really think you're getting out?
41:32What do you want from me?
41:36To bring you home.
41:37That's playing dirty.
41:38You literally just said
41:39you'd respect my decision.
41:41Dodging me?
41:43Back off!
41:44Give me space!
41:46I need to say something to you.
41:48Then spit it out already.
41:50I'm leagues ahead of that punk kid.
41:51How about giving me a chance too, huh?
41:54A chance at what?
41:57Courting you.
41:59Those words hit me like an electric shock,
42:01numbness spreading through my body.
42:03Had the universe lost its mind?
42:05Two confessions in one day?
42:07And both this intense?
42:09Bruce!
42:10Are you out of your damn mind?
42:11I nearly married your nephew!
42:13You nearly married Elwood as Justine.
42:16How does that affect me falling for a show?
42:18I'm not insane.
42:19It's just...
42:20When you jumped into the sea,
42:23I figured that was it.
42:24I'd never see you again.
42:28Lucky for me,
42:30it was all a scare.
42:31But it hit me.
42:32I can't hold back anymore.
42:34I can't just let you slip away to someone else.
42:36If you're not on board yet,
42:37no problem.
42:38I'll compete.
42:38I'll claim what's mine.
42:39Nobody's beating me at this
42:41until you come around.
42:42Your whole career is back in the country.
42:44I can relocate the company to Anta.
42:48Your family,
42:49they're all in Ergabit City.
42:50None of them matter as much as you do.
42:53The Matthews family were all certified Lettics.
42:55Drop a no on them,
42:56and it just revved them up.
42:57They lived for the chase.
42:58But I'd barely gotten out of my last train wreck.
43:01Romance was the last thing on my mind.
43:02How about coming back with me just this once?
43:04I'll set everything straight for you.
43:05Your pain can't go undanswered.
43:07They've got regrets, sure,
43:08but no real fallout.
43:09I'll ensure they face the music.
43:18You, what are you here for?
43:19Please, just let me go.
43:21Please, let me go.
43:23I'm shipping you out of the country.
43:25After that, vanish from my sight forever.
43:30Elwood.
43:31Elwood, I knew you still had feelings for me deep down.
43:33I promise I'll disappear for good.
43:35Never show up around you or Justine again.
43:45I've let you off the hook,
43:47but who's cutting me any slack?
43:49This is all on you.
43:51If not for you,
43:53Justine never would have left.
43:55You destroyed me.
43:57You destroyed the Matthews family.
44:01Your pathetic life doesn't even begin to cover it.
44:03Your entire family should go down with you.
44:06I'm giving you this one chance to crawl abroad like the bitch you are.
44:10Dedicate the rest of your worthless life to making amends for what you did to Justine!
44:18Justine didn't jump because of me.
44:21It was all you.
44:32Sure, I came on to you first and I leaked those videos.
44:37But you didn't push me away, did you?
44:39If you kept your dick in your pants, what leverage would I have had?
44:44You ignored Justine to mess around with me.
44:47Even staged that fake amnesia scam.
44:53Was she really pissed at me?
44:54Or just heartbroken over you, you know damn well.
44:58This nightmare you're in?
45:00You brought it on yourself?
45:03Serves you right!
45:04That Justine would rather drown than tie the knot knot with you!
45:14I'll fucking kill you!
45:17I'll fucking kill you!
45:35I'll fucking kill you!
45:38O que é isso?
46:07O que é isso?
46:37Elwood and Patricia were bound together for eternity now
46:42That screenshot popped into my mind
46:44The one where he promised her they'd be together forever
46:47In hindsight
46:48It had become a twisted prophecy fulfilled
46:56Don't look
47:10You feel...
47:14I don't hate him anymore
47:17Time to leave it all behind
47:18Whatever wrongs they'd committed
47:20It was all forgiven and forgotten now
47:24I need some time alone to walk and think
47:26With everything exploding like this
47:29You should go take care of business
47:41In a little over two months
47:43The Matthews family had shaken Ergbert City to its core twice
47:47When word got out that the couple from that notorious viral video had both kicked the bucket
47:52People online couldn't stop marveling at life's cruel twists
47:56Whatever wrongs they'd committed in the past
47:59It was all forgiven and forgotten now
48:01The bad news kept coming
48:03Overwhelmed by the agony of losing Elwood
48:06Sandra couldn't cope
48:07And passed away soon after
48:09I hung around Ergbert City for a while longer
48:12Then set off back to Anta
48:14Unless some major crisis popped up
48:17I had no intention of returning
48:28You actually followed
48:30I said I would
48:36Once he'd tied up all the loose ends with the funerals
48:39Bruce was dead set on tagging along with me
48:41Whatever
48:42Let him
48:44For the next two years
48:45I dove head first into my studies
48:47Distraction freed
48:48And graduated from Cuda University without a hitch
48:53Meanwhile
48:53Bruce abandoned his hand company to Anta
48:56And quickly cornered the local market
48:58Skip the job, Ergbert, and join my firm
49:00Any position, any pay you want
49:07Pass
49:08Life fell into a quiet rhythm like that
49:10But it was deeply fulfilling in its own way
49:13As far as I was concerned
49:14We were essentially just friends making a go of it together
49:17But he was all smiles every day
49:19That perpetual sour world-weary crown of his was long gone
49:29Aisha, awesome news!
49:31Your permanent residency came through
49:35No way
49:38You don't have one, do you?
49:41Nah
49:42But tomorrow
49:43I'll throw some cash at a new building donation
49:45Should snag me one, no problem
49:48That is absolutely cheating the system
49:50Yeah, yeah, exactly
49:52That's total cheating, Bruce
49:55Out
50:00Everything from back home drifted further into the distance
50:04On the rare occasions we dipped into old memories
50:06They always felt fuzzy
50:08Like trying to see through a thick mist
50:11And Elwood's name
50:12It faded into oblivion
50:14Lost to the currents of time
50:16And never mentioned again
50:17No matter how many regrets
50:20Triumphs
50:21Or heartbreaks lay in the rear view
50:23It was best to shed the weight
50:25And embrace the new season
50:26And all its fresh possibilities
50:28With open arms
50:30Look back on my paths once traveled
50:32And stand with me
50:34To greet the spring
50:35And all its fresh possibilities
50:35And all its fresh possibilities
50:35And all its fresh possibilities
50:35And all its fresh possibilities
50:35Obrigado.
