00:06Chief Minister Swindu Adhikari of West Bengal is making a big announcement.
00:12It's going to be UCC in West Bengal and that too in next six months.
00:18He has made an announcement, he says that he will implement the Uniform Civil Code in West Bengal
00:25very soon, which is in next six months.
00:27He is saying that there will be a strict law against any sort of forced conversion which
00:33will be brought in in the ambit of UCC.
01:19So it seems that the Chief Minister is now ready to roll out the new law for Uniform Civil Code.
01:26It will ensure that same law is implemented for all religions, especially regarding divorce, marriage, adoption.
01:35These issues will be under a similar law.
01:38So he's promising that it's just another six months that this law will be brought in.
01:42Then there is also an aspect of alleged love jihad and conversions that he is putting focus on.
01:50He's making it clear that in the next six months, a law that will come will have strict action against
01:56that.
01:57Already there is an expert panel which has been constituted by the state.
02:02It is a high-level nine-member panel which is headed by the retired Supreme Court Judge, Justice Ranjana Prakash
02:10Desai.
02:11And they are reviewing the draft legislation which has been already made.
02:16Now this is most likely going to be on the lines of what we've seen in Uttarakhand, Gujarat and West
02:23Bengal.
02:23And Assam.
02:24Joining us now is India Today's Tapas Sengupta.
02:27Tapas, what can we expect?
02:29A panel is already constituted.
02:31And now we hear this very strong promise from the Chief Minister himself.
02:37Today, while attending a program of Ismail Parishadar, we reiterated that the rights of Hindus will be protected.
02:44And while stating so, he categorically mentioned that the UCC, the government have been deliberating upon since long.
02:51But now, within a six-month time, is what he said, that he expected that the UCC would be implemented
02:58after Gujarat and Uttarakhand.
03:00And in West Bengal, a new law would also be framed as far as stopping love, jihad and religious conversions
03:09are concerned.
03:10There will be strict laws that would be implemented.
03:12So overall, we can say that these were the promises made by BJP prior coming to power.
03:17And after BJP won this election with Umbing Majority,
03:24a team was constituted that would look upon the implementation of the UCC.
03:28And it seems that recommendations are coming in from that committee.
03:32And following that, Sudendari Kari has said that in the next six months or so,
03:37the UCC is all set to be implemented in the state of West Bengal.
03:40And any kind of religious conversion or love, jihad, would not be tolerated to deal with that.
03:45Stringent laws would be framed in the state of West Bengal.
