Chris Rosati had a life many people would envy: a loving wife, two young daughters, a strong career, and a recent triathlon finish. Then came an ALS diagnosis, and instead of retreating, he chose to spend his time spreading kindness, family love, and hope in his Durham, North Carolina community.

What began as a dream about driving a Krispy Kreme truck turned into a real act of generosity when the company reached out and helped make it happen. Chris delivered donuts to cancer wards, a local park, and a children’s hospital, then launched Butterfly Grants, handing out $50 bills and asking kids to use them to make a difference. His message reached far beyond the sweet treats, inspiring teachers, families, and even a village in Sierra Leone.

This moving inspirational story follows a man living with ALS who turned hardship into purpose and left a lasting legacy of compassion. It is a powerful piece of human-interest storytelling, motivational narration, and kindness content for viewers who enjoy uplifting real-life stories, family values, and acts of generosity.

00:00Dying man spreads kindness and inspiration by giving away Krispy Kreme doughnuts
00:12Some people spend their entire lives trying to figure out how to be a good person or how to make
00:17the world a better place
00:19Sometimes this can be hard to do
00:21Especially if you don't know where to start
00:23This man was living a life that many people can only dream of having
00:26But when he received news about his health, he decided to make some changes
00:32Chris Rosati a resident of Durham, North Carolina seemed to have everything that he could ever wanted
00:37He had a wife who adored him two beautiful little girls and a very good job working as a marketing
00:43vice president
00:43He was in the best shape of his life recently finishing his second triathlon
00:47It was obvious that the 41 year old man was living the American dream
00:52But everything in Chris's life changed in 2012
00:56Sadly, Chris was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
01:00ALS also known as Lou Gehrig's disease
01:03The Rosati's were completely taken by surprise when they heard the news and since there was no cure for the
01:09deadly disease
01:10It seemed like Chris's charming life was going to come to an end
01:14Most people would break under such stressful circumstances, but not Chris
01:18Chris used his diagnosis as an important opportunity to re-evaluate what really mattered in his life
01:24He took all his energy and focused on what he valued most his loving family
01:30We're missing the greatest experience will ever have ever
01:33You always think that people who are dying want to get up early and watch the sunrise
01:37I don't I like to sleep, but if my kids get up early
01:41I want that experience Chris said of himself and others who tend to put their career before family
01:48Chris also made it his purpose to spread as much kindness as he possibly could to as many people as
01:54he could
01:55Well, most people would donate their time to work in a soup kitchen or to build houses for the homeless
02:00Chris had a much different idea
02:02One day he was driving by a mini-mart when he noticed a Krispy Kreme truck
02:07Chris always liked Krispy Kreme doughnuts
02:09He began to daydream of what it would be like to jump in and start driving it and then just
02:14go around and give away the doughnuts
02:16He explained sort of like Robin Hood robbing sweet treats from the rich and giving them to the poor
02:22Chris even applied for a job with Krispy Kreme
02:25I knew I wouldn't get the job, but at least then I could say when they arrested me. Hey, man
02:29I applied
02:30Chris said in an interview with CBS News in January 2014
02:34It seems like he really put a lot of thought into helping those kids get some free doughnuts
02:39Chris's dream of stealing a Krispy Kreme delivery truck never happened
02:42But his mission to help brighten the lives of people in his community most certainly did
02:47Krispy Kreme who heard about his dream to steal one of their delivery trucks through Facebook reached out to Kris
02:52directly to make him a sweet offer that
02:54He couldn't refuse as
02:57Most of you know most companies wouldn't see the humor in a man threatening to steal from them
03:00But Krispy Kreme actually wanted to help turn Kris's scheme into a reality
03:05When Krispy Kreme sent Kris two trucks filled to the brim with delicious doughnuts he instantly became their newest and
03:12proudest driver
03:14Throughout the day Kris visited several different places including cancer wards a local park and a children's hospital and passed
03:22out doughnuts to hundreds of sugar-loving children
03:24We're glad to make some people smile said Kris
03:28Kris instructed the kids he met to do a random act of kindness
03:31He said if I can't impact people then this whole thing is a waste
03:35His quote was seen on church signs around town and his purpose and mission inspired others on Facebook
03:42Even though he'd already made plenty of people smile with his acts of kindness
03:46He didn't stop there because he was determined to spread happiness even further
03:50But this time instead of passing out delicious treats Kris handed out something a bit more valuable
03:56Naming his new initiative butterfly grants
03:58Kris started handing out $50 bills to children every time he went somewhere and after he handed each child a
04:05crisp new 50
04:06He encouraged each one to always live life to the fullest and to use the money to help change the
04:11world
04:11Just like he was doing
04:13Butterfly grants became even more successful than the Krispy Kreme deliveries and before long the entire nation was hearing about
04:20his butterfly grants
04:21People all over the country took a page from Kris's book and teachers began to petition to have the program
04:27put into place in their schools
04:29Dr. Judith Palmer a major advocate for the program said I believe that most students are thirsty for ways to
04:36make a difference in the world
04:37They do see the needs I found our students to be socially aware and determined to become changemakers and boy
04:44She couldn't have been more right
04:46Kris not only got to see his movement spread across the country, but he also got to see it actually
04:51work
04:52One night Kris handed two girls $50 a piece at a diner
04:56Once he handed the girls the money he explained to them that they should use it to help change the
05:01world
05:01But Kris never expected to see how far it would go
05:05The girls father once worked as a member of the Peace Corps in Sierra Leone Africa, so the two girls
05:11sent their money to the village where he stayed
05:13Thanks to the money that the girls sent the entire village was able to have a feast to help them
05:18celebrate being Ebola free
05:20They made sure to share their thanks with Kris as well
05:24Even though he was spending so much time helping others
05:27He made sure that he spent just as much time with his own daughters taking them on unforgettable trips and
05:33sharing once-in-a-lifetime experiences with them
05:36Even though Kris believes that his attitude changed his daughters insist that he's always been so kind and thoughtful
05:42That dad who has ALS was the dad I was born with he tried to make friends with the world
05:47I think it's hard to do that. So I'm proud of him said the eldest daughter in 2014
05:53It's clear that Kris's daughters have an incredible amount of love and respect for their dad
05:58Unfortunately, Kris lost his difficult battle with ALS in October of 2017
06:03At the age of 46 Kris passed away from this world, but before he did he had just one more
06:10mission of happiness to fulfill
06:12Kris's funeral was held the following month and every guest received a special gift
06:17They each received a $1 bill
06:20Kris had hoped that every guest at his funeral from the children to the adults would use the dollar to
06:25try and make a difference in the world
06:27Even on his deathbed Kris wanted to make someone else smile
