00:01Police officers friendship with homeless vet is an example of true compassion
00:13These days people tend to freeze when they see a cop walking up or they hear a siren in the
00:18distance even if they've done nothing wrong
00:19But we often forget that there are a lot of police officers out there who have sworn to serve and
00:24protect us and officer
00:26Dina Walker Pauly of the Lawrenceville Police Department in Lawrenceville, Georgia is one of them
00:31But while her role required her to never set one of them above the rest and love all humanity instead
00:37She formed a bond with an elderly man and showed him the kind of compassion that will touch everyone's hearts
00:44Two years ago officer Dina Walker Pauly got a call to a local pawn shop, which was run by Bob
00:49She got to meet the elderly man who had an aura of loneliness surrounding him
00:53She decided to do something that would turn her into one of the most precious people in his life
00:59But first she had to hear his story
01:02Dina learned that Bob's life hadn't been much of a picnic and it had been this way since he was
01:07a kid
01:07He was alone since early childhood and had no friends or family
01:11He'd also been homeless most of his life to make things worse
01:14He'd suffered a stroke that made it extremely difficult and nearly impossible to speak
01:20Although Dina had a family of her own and a job as a police officer. She decided to adopt Bob
01:25into her life
01:26Fellow policewoman Shannon Volkadov was so touched that she documented Dina and Bob's story on Facebook
01:32So people could understand what being a cop was really about
01:36Shannon explained how Dina had taken Bob home so he could show her what he needed
01:41Dina taught Bob the sanitation basics, which is something most people learn when they're young
01:46Then she checked up on him on a regular basis to make sure that he was okay
01:50She also brought him supplies like food and even cleaned his apartment, but sometimes she'd just go keep the poor
01:56lonely man some company
01:58Then Bob got very sick and Dina feared the worst for her friend. So she became his power of attorney
02:05This allowed her to make medical decisions for him. It was a tough decision, but Dina didn't complain
02:11Unfortunately Bob took a turn for the worse and she decided to put him in hospice, but she stayed by
02:17his side every step of the way
02:19Then she said those three words that are said too much, but not enough to the poor man
02:24She held his hand and told him many times that she loved him wrote Shannon
02:28Meanwhile Dina stuck around while waiting for nature to take its inevitable course
02:32But this special and heartbreaking moment would not be forgotten
02:37Shannon took a photograph of Dina and Bob's final moments together before he passed away
02:42I've never been more proud of any friend than I was today of Dina Walker Polly
02:46It's hard for her to say goodbye to Bob. I told him he's changed her life forever because I know
02:52it's true. She said
02:53She then shared this touching story with a nearby funeral home and they offered to do the services at no
02:59cost
03:00Dina also took Bob's remains home, so he could be with her forever
03:04Although it was tough saying goodbye both women are hopeful that he's found peace and happiness after crossing over
03:11Shannon wrapped up her story with a reminder that the photo represents what cops are all about
03:17This photo depicts the true nature of law enforcement officers Shannon wrote the fact that Bob spent his whole life
03:23alone as a tragedy
03:24But at least he had a guardian angel named Dina who showed him and us that being a law enforcement
03:29officer
03:30Isn't always about writing speeding tickets or catching bad guys
