00:00The Heisman Trophy favorite was Trinidad Chambliss.
00:05And then Florida happened.
00:07And you would think, oh, man, so I guess losing in a big game is going to hurt.
00:13No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:15It might hurt a quarterback, but a wide receiver
00:19is completely immune to something like that
00:21because it's not Jeremiah Smith's fault
00:25that Julian Sane can't get him the ball every single play
00:28because that's pretty much what it feels like
00:30the Ohio State offense is supposed to be.
00:34In fact, I would almost tell people that Jeremiah Smith cemented
00:40he would be deep in this Heisman race in the loss to Texas.
00:45It grabs 164 yards and a touchdown.
00:48He followed up with a quarter and a half,
00:5385-yard performance against Kent State.
00:55That might be a missed opportunity.
00:57You'd probably want to hang some big numbers.
00:59And then they played Illinois, and he had 217 yards and four touchdowns.
01:07And I don't know.
01:08It was touchdown two, one of them, where I had said to myself,
01:15this feels like Jeremiah Smith's Heisman.
01:19Ohio State, if they lose again, I think that'll hurt, no doubt.
01:24Well, we'll see how he plays in it, though,
01:26because Jeremiah Smith is right now a huge favorite to lead college football
01:32in both receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
01:37And when you have a player who has been labeled the best in the country
01:42for three straight years, arguably,
01:46it almost feels like a rite of passage to get this guy a Heisman trophy.
01:52Now, the price, I'm not super interested in under three to one on a wide receiver
01:59to win this award.
02:00We could probably make more money, Dave,
02:02betting him to score two-plus touchdowns in an appropriate spot than betting,
02:06you know, instead of waiting until December for the Heisman ceremony here.
02:12But in what's been a quarterback's award, Jeremiah Smith has pulled out in front.
02:19If I was a Heisman voter in the Downtown Athletic Club, you have my address.
02:23I would give it to Jeremiah Smith right now.
02:25He should have been the favorite going into the season,
02:27but that last thing you said is true.
02:29It is a quarterback award lately.
02:31He is the best player in the country.
02:33He deserves this award.
02:35You're right.
02:35He doesn't get penalized for the loss to Texas.
02:37He put up a hell of a game and made some ridiculous catches
02:39and cemented the fact that he's the best one in the game.
02:42He's going to continue to do, and I think even if they lose another game,
02:45Jeremiah Smith can still win this award.
02:47But let me give you another guy who I gave out on this show a couple of weeks ago
02:51at 17-1, and now he's starting to get national attention
02:54because he's leading the country in rush yards and touchdowns in Jaden Baugh,
02:59and this is not a homer pick.
03:01This is a if they keep winning and they are in national title contention,
03:05this is a guy who is putting up numbers that are better than all the other
03:11Heisman Trophy winners in his position.
03:13Jaden Baugh has 600 yards and 11 touchdowns through four games.
03:17Derrick Henry, 422-6.
03:20Mark Ingram, 347-4.
03:23Reggie Bush, 491-6.
03:26Baugh is doubling those numbers, and you're talking about Henry Ingram Bush,
03:31massive Heisman Trophy winning running backs that have gone down in history
03:35as the best of the best.
03:37His 11 touchdowns, Kevin, most in the SEC by any player through four games
03:43since they went to conference expansion in 1992.
03:46Think about it.
03:47The SEC.
03:47I just listed a couple of those guys.
03:49That includes Tim Tebow, by the way, who broke the record for rushing touchdowns
03:54as a quarterback and a running back.
03:56Jaden Baugh has more yards and more touchdowns than any of them through four games.
04:00Now, is he going to keep it up and do this versus the number one and two teams
04:03in the country?
04:03We don't know.
04:04But you have to at least consider him when you're looking at your Heisman
04:08portfolio.
04:09Sure, Jeremiah Smith is the best player in the country and has proven that.
04:12But before we go ahead and say, hey, it's a quarterback award, let's go give it
04:16to the guy in Miami, the guy in Ohio State, and let's give it to that.
04:20Look at Jeremiah Smith and look at Jaden Baugh and the numbers they are putting up.
04:24They're absolutely New York worthy for this Heisman Trophy.
