00:31WCW NW Fall Brawl 98 took place on September 13th in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
00:37We've got the War Games match in the main event and this year WCW decided to completely change the fundamentals
00:43of the annual Double Ring Double Cage Brawl.
00:46We have three teams of three competing in the main event and pinfalls are allowed inside War Games for the
00:51very first time.
00:52There's no match beyond, War Games can end at any time.
00:56And also, whoever gets the victory for their team will get a world title shot at Halloween Havoc.
01:00You can already see the issues with having a team-based match with a reward going to just one competitor
01:05and the changes made to War Games are very questionable but we'll ignore all that in hopes that the match
01:12is still actually good.
01:13Let's not pass judgment until we see the actual match.
01:21Mean Gene Okerlund promotes a few matches we're going to see tonight
01:24but he gets interrupted by TV Champion Chris Jericho.
01:27On Thunder this past week Jericho said the TV title is more important than every other belt in WCW including
01:32the World Heavyweight Championship,
01:34so Chris felt that he should be given a Goldberg-esque entrance complete with his own security team.
01:39Jericho personal security featuring the Jerichoholic Ninja and Ralfus, a mere WCW truck driver,
01:45were supposed to escort Chris to the ring for a match against Wrath,
01:48and Jericho decided to pay tribute to Spinal Tap by getting lost backstage.
01:53I still find this really funny.
01:55People bring up that moment where Jericho manages to open a door that was supposed to be locked outside
02:00and yeah, that's funny too.
02:02There's also the fact that Wrath caught up to Jericho just before the fade out and there's no physicality,
02:07the boys thought the cameras had stopped rolling.
02:10But still, Chris was onto something with this team of highly trained security guards
02:14and the bit was very entertaining from the very start.
02:17Back to Fall Brawl and Chris says Goldberg watched his entrance and the world champ wasn't too happy about it.
02:22Billy Boy called Chris to complain about Thunder and Chris told Bill to put his money where his mouth is.
02:27So tonight at Fall Brawl, we're going to have a title vs title match.
02:31Jericho vs Bill Goldberg.
02:32The crowd popped at this big announcement.
02:37Get ready for some Saturday Night Fever with Ross Wimberkint
02:40and some Disco Dancing with the Disco Inferno.
02:54It's a reliving the war meme match.
02:57Alex in Disco vs Davey Boy and Jim Neidhart,
02:59though really there's not a whole lot funny about this opening contest.
03:03Guys get hurt.
03:04On Thunder, a horrible incident took place when Bret Hart turned his back on Davey and Jim
03:09just to prove he's cool with Lex Luger.
03:11Lex Luger being Sting's best friend and Bret trying to tell anyone that'll listen that he too is a good
03:17friend of the Stinger.
03:18We haven't seen Davey Boy in quite some time and he still doesn't look too great.
03:22The Anvil's seen better days too.
03:24In Tonight, they have the impossible task of trying to beat Disco in Des Vunderkind.
03:29There's a trapdoor inside this left ring.
03:32It's rigged up for the wargames match later on, but no one backstage told the competitors about it.
03:37Davey Boy gets hurt badly in this match and this was all confirmed by Alex Wright by the way,
03:42in a recent interview he took part in with the WSI channel.
03:45For a long time, we also didn't know exactly where the trapdoor was placed,
03:49but Alex said he took a press slam on the door and that press slam happens early in the match,
03:54so it's around this general area here to the left of the ring.
03:58Davey and Alex tag out and the Anvil overpowers Disco Inferno before shaking his hips and showing the Inferno how
04:03to really dance.
04:05Disco takes exception to this, so he gets Anvil down with a drop toehold and Disco lays the boots in.
04:10Disco performs a knee lift and Jim's not sure how to take the bump,
04:13so he tags in Davey and Disco tags Alex back in.
04:16Alex wrecks Davey in the corner and he swings his big broad verse to celebrate.
04:20Alex then goes for a monkey flip and check out Davey's counter,
04:24he's still got it guys, he's still got it.
04:26This act of sheer athleticism gets negated after an Alex Wright kick to the head,
04:31and then Davey falls in that general area where the trapdoor is located, not once, but twice.
04:36The second bump makes a loud thud that you don't hear at other parts of the ring.
04:41Disco comes back in but he gets thrown right back out by the bulldog.
04:44This allows Anvil to soften Disco up a bit and when Disco gets back in the ring,
04:48the fans get what they paid to see.
04:56And if that's not enough, Davey performs another.
05:06Davey proves right here that he was ready for the world title and he also proves that
05:10he should have led team WCW in the wargames tonight and not Diamond Dallas Page.
05:14Disco takes a stun gun next and the top rope gets missed in favour of Brett's rope.
05:19Listen carefully to Disco's screams.
05:29Didn't sound too hot did it?
05:30Even worse is when you've got Jim Neidhart trying to take a bite out of your forehead while the crowd
05:35chants
05:35We want flair.
05:37Davey body slams Disco and Jim's follow-up torpedo from the ring apron completely misses.
05:42Alex Wright comes in with an incredible missile dropkick to Anvil.
05:45He then backdrops Davey and I always thought this is what messed Davey's back up but apparently not.
05:51The Inferno saves his partner from a running power slam next and we get some good teamwork from the Dancing
05:56Fools.
05:56The referee then drops down after Alex gets Irish whipped and this leads to Disco getting headbutted right in the
06:02Disco balls.
06:03And the match ends with Davey struggling to get Disco on his shoulder for a running power slam
06:07but Davey pulls it off and I'm genuinely surprised that Davey and Jim got the win here.
06:12They've done absolutely nothing on TV leading up to this.
06:15Davey hurt his back really bad in this one and while he does stick around for more matches,
06:19the injury does send him on an even deeper downward spiral.
06:23Hard to imagine really seeing as he's been pretty rough ever since returning to WCW.
06:27The wrong team won this opening match though, that's for sure.
06:36Scott Steiner scheduled to face brother Rick tonight but he's wearing an ice pack and he's got a little bandaid
06:41on his arm.
06:42Buff Bagwell though says that Dr Dickweed sent in a letter saying that Scott cannot wrestle at Fall Brawl.
06:49Mean Gene has a quick look at the letter before JJ Dillon conveniently shows up
06:53and JJ says it's a shame.
06:55It's a shame Buff and Scott wasted their time getting this bogus letter
06:59because Scott was told at Road Wilde that he will wrestle tonight no matter what.
07:03Dillon rips up the contract before walking off
07:05and Scotty grabs the pieces of paper in hopes of putting it back together.
07:08The title vs title Jericho vs Goldberg match is up next
07:12and we get to see another entrance featuring Jericho and his personal security team.
07:16It's a rehash of the WCW Thunder entrance but who cares, it's still brilliant.
07:21Chris makes it to the arena this time and he's even got himself some Goldberg pyro set up for his
07:26grand entrance.
07:27The fireworks aren't very spectacular and the Ayatollah isn't too happy about it either.
07:31It's absolute gold.
07:33Chris gets in the ring, he's got a smug look on his face,
07:36Goldberg's music then plays in the arena and many Goldberg makes his entrance.
07:41We've been conned, ladies and gents, we've been hoodwinked.
07:44There's some fans who see the humour in this,
07:47other fans were expecting Goldberg to show up
07:49and you know he is the world champion so it's not a big ask.
07:53These vocal fans chant bullshit as Chris overpowers his opponent before delivering a suplex.
07:58The little greenberg has no chance.
08:01Tiny Goldberg pulls off a spear, Tony Schiavone calls it an itty bitty spear
08:05and Jericho takes offence to a little Goldberg fighting back so he kicks him in the face
08:09and he lays the boots in before applying a land tamer.
08:12Chris Jericho says who's next to the camera before letting go of his submission hold
08:17and Chris accepts Goldberg's little toy belt before ripping it up.
08:20It was an entertaining little matchup but I can see why fans back then wouldn't have liked it.
08:30On Thursday, Ernest Miller cheapshotted Scott and Steve Armstrong.
08:34The Armstrongs were annoyed at the KED interrupting them when they struggled to get promo time as it is in
08:39WCW,
08:40so Ernie attacked them from behind and it was Norman Smiley who confronted Miller after the beatdown.
08:45So we have Ernest Miller vs Norman Smiley tonight at Fall Brawl.
08:49Miller's been getting featured on Nitro these past few weeks after turning heel
08:53while Norman Smiley's been portrayed as a job guy so far, at least on Monday nights.
08:58He hasn't won a single match on Nitro,
09:00so the best he can hope for here is a good performance on pay-per-view.
09:04Ernie gives Smiley a chance,
09:06he can get destroyed in 5 seconds by the 3-time world karate champion
09:10or he can get out of the ring in 5 seconds before the match starts and live to fight another
09:14day.
09:15Smiley decides that he's gonna fight Miller and our match begins.
09:18We're in the trapdoor ring again for this one
09:21and the men are very cautious when bumping,
09:24they only fall in the middle or to the right of the ring,
09:27so clearly Anvil, Davey, Disco and Alex have warned everyone else about the gimmick ring
09:32seeing as no one else in WCW bothered.
09:34Ernest Miller dominated most of the match but Norman did get a few chances to shine too.
09:39Both guys were still trying to establish themselves in WCW at this point
09:43and this means the fans aren't all that invested in their fight
09:46and honestly, the match does lack excitement too.
09:49Smiley's definitely the more confident wrestler while the cat talks a good game on the microphone,
09:54Ernie Miller still had a while to go in terms of his overall pacing and his timing.
09:59Norman makes sure not to bump on his back when he comes close to the trapdoor
10:03following a top rope spin kick from Miller
10:05and Ernest wins it with his front spin roundhouse kick.
10:08After the bout, Ernest reminds everyone that he's the greatest
10:11and Fall Brawl moves on to its next match.
10:14It's the highly anticipated Battle of the Steiner Brothers.
10:17This one was originally going to take place at Road Wild
10:20but Scott weaseled his way out of the match by faking an injury.
10:23As we learned earlier on, Scott must face Rick tonight or he'll lose his job
10:28so Big Papa Pump has no choice.
10:30Buff Bagwell comes to the ring with Scott, Rick comes to the ring all alone
10:34and when the bell rings, the Steiner Brothers dash into each other to begin the physicality
10:39and, oh yeah, an amazing start to the match.
10:42I've talked before about how I didn't want Rick and Scott to break up
10:45but a match between the two still sounds very exciting
10:48and it looks like the brothers are going to go at it hard from bell to bell.
10:52Rick puts Scott down with a stiff clothesline
10:55and when Scott gets up he gets knocked into the turnbuckles after a forearm to the face.
10:59Scott tries to fight back but Rick absorbs the shots
11:02and Scott decides to get out of the ring to rethink how he's going to go about this.
11:06Scott tries to escape through the audience but Rick gives chase.
11:09Scott begs his brother to stop and he tries to call a timeout
11:12but Rick's not going to show any mercy tonight.
11:15As the two get back in the ring, Buff Bagwell distracts Rick
11:18and this allows Scott to go in control briefly.
11:20Two low blows are needed to bring the dogface gremlin down to the canvas
11:24and Scotty's confidence grows when he kicks his brother in the head.
11:28When the match goes to the outside again
11:30it's Scott doing all the damage this time around
11:32and back in the ring Scott lays in a few more boots
11:34before giving Rick a recede for that clothesline earlier on.
11:38Big Papa Pump goes for a double underhook powerbomb
11:40but Rick counters with a DDT
11:42and just when the match was starting to get good
11:44it comes to an end when Buff Bagwell gets on the apron
11:47and Rick shoves him into the ring post.
11:49Scott and Rick continue to fight
11:50but Buff hasn't moved from the apron.
11:53Mark Curtis hasn't left Buff's side
11:54and eventually the Steiners stop fighting
11:56so Scott can check on his friend.
11:58Remember, Buff got a serious neck injury
12:01when taking a bulldog from Rick on Thunder
12:03so it appears that Buff Daddy has re-injured himself
12:06and the match gets called off.
12:08The crowd aren't buying it
12:09Bobby Heenan says this could be a case of the boy who cried wolf
12:12but it does look serious
12:14as doctors and trainers run down to check on Bagwell.
12:17Rick Steiner also shows concern
12:19the Steiners completely forget about their match
12:21and the crowd boos even louder
12:23when a stretcher gets brought out for Buff.
12:25This goes on for ages by the way
12:27it takes some time for Buff to get on the stretcher
12:30and Shivani says the fans are only booing Buff
12:33because he's a member of the NWO.
12:35It's clear though that the fans aren't falling for it
12:37but if this was a legit injury
12:39it sure would be interesting watching this back
12:41and seeing fans show their displeasure
12:44at a guy legitimately breaking his neck.
12:46The bump itself didn't help matters though
12:48it didn't look all that bad
12:50and I think if Buff and Rick planned something a bit more elaborate for this
12:53then fans would've bought into it more.
12:56Anyway, Eric Bischoff seen backstage as Rick gets brought to an ambulance
12:59Scott says he's gonna go with Buff
13:01so Big Papa Pump jumps in while Rick begins to walk away
13:04it's at this moment when the master plan gets revealed
13:07and Rick gets attacked by his brother and Buff
13:09and the fans in Winston-Salem absolutely hated it.
13:13I always thought it was kinda funny
13:15but when reflecting back and watching all the nitros that led up to this moment
13:19I can definitely understand why fans were pissed
13:22this match was built up quite a lot on TV
13:24and it would be good to find out who the toughest Steiner brother truly is
13:28but fans did not find out at Fall Brawl
13:31it's an advertised match with a cheap finish
13:33it's good for the moment but kinda damaging in the long run.
13:41Juventud Guerrera then defended his cruiserweight title against Silver King
13:44a match that had no build up on TV at all
13:47we've got 3 hours of nitro every week
13:50and 5 of the matches on this show were not talked about
13:53or built up at all on Monday nights
13:55most were thrown together on Thunder days before the pay-per-view
13:58two great cruiserweights here though
14:00and even without any build up
14:02fans still enjoy the high-flying offense in the match
14:04particularly from Juventud Guerrera
14:06Tony Schiavone's all pissed off with what happened in the Scott Steiner match
14:09and he struggles to focus on the in-ring action
14:12it's a back and forth affair to start off
14:14with the crowd getting into it following Hoovey's head scissor takedown
14:17followed by a springboard variant
14:19Silver King fires back with a dropkick right on the chin
14:22and he then performs an airplane spin
14:24before dropping the cruiserweight champ on the top rope
14:26Hoovey ends up on the outside
14:27where Silver King performs a crossbody
14:29the two get back in the ring
14:31and Hoovey falls when trying a sunset flip counter
14:34it's made even worse by Silver King walking backwards into position
14:38swear to god Hoovey must be the luckiest person on earth
14:41this isn't the first time he's made a mistake like this
14:44and he always tucks his chin in at the very last moment
14:47either he's very lucky or he's really really good at his job
14:51a miss-aid dropkick from Guerrera gets answered with a superkick from Silver King
14:55the champ then pulls off a top rope reverse Frankensteiner
14:58and the match ends when Silver King misses a top rope springboard moonsault
15:02Guerrera ends it with a Hoovey driver
15:04followed by a crowd-pleasing 450 splash
15:06if you were paying attention too
15:08you would have noticed that both this match
15:10and the Steiner's match took place in the ring
15:12without the trapdoor
15:13matches are supposed to alternate between rings
15:16at fall brawl events
15:17but not this year
15:19another match that was announced on Thunder this past week features Scott Hall taking
15:24on Conan
15:24JJ Dillon felt that Scott was spending too much time away from the ring
15:28or as JJ put it, too much time at the golf course
15:31and seeing as Hall has a big contract, he really should be performing more often at WCW shows
15:37Scott showed up to Thunder and he didn't seem to be himself
15:40he even had a celebratory drink after he and the NWO gave Kevin Nash a beatdown
15:45so both WWF and WCW are presenting storylines that feature wrestlers struggling with alcohol
15:51addiction
15:51Scott had been in and out of rehab numerous times and I've no idea why Eric Bischoff would
15:57think this was a good idea
15:58I understand blurring reality with fiction but the reality of this situation here was
16:03that Scott was legitimately still struggling with his issues
16:05you won't see him perform on TV wasted by the way, Scott didn't get loaded for any of the
16:10matches and promos you're going to see in this storyline and it was all an act for
16:14the cameras but behind the scenes it was obviously a different story and I think it sucks, sorry
16:20but I do
16:21Conan gets interviewed at the WCW.com desk and he says he still loves Scott Hall but he's
16:26got a lot of personal issues that he needs to leave at home
16:29Scott then shows up holding a drink and he says Conan can't tell him what he can and can't
16:33do, Conan says Scott needs to be a professional if he wants to wrestle tonight on PPV and Scott
16:39throws a drink in his face
16:40that match is going to take place a little later on and just to get it out of the way
16:44you're either going to say it's just a storyline and stop taking things so seriously or you're
16:49going to say this was all done in poor taste
16:52you guys know me, I'm not one to tell you how to feel about stuff in wrestling but personally
16:57speaking and because I'm such a big Scott Hall fan, I didn't like this storyline at all.
17:06Raven vs Saturn's our next match, if Saturn beats Raven then the flock gets set free and
17:11the faction gets disbanded. If Raven wins, Saturn has to be his servant, forever, so Saturn's
17:17in danger of getting renamed Perry Virgil. It's announced during Raven's entrance that Kenyon
17:22has to get handcuffed to a ring post during the match and JJ Dillon comes down to make
17:26sure Chris follows this order. Lodi, however, does not get handcuffed, that makes perfect
17:32sense. Raven calls Perry an embarrassment and Saturn says it doesn't matter if he wins
17:36tonight, he'll still keep his honour and his integrity. Raven takes control early on
17:41when Saturn picks him up from his usual spot in the corner, Raven counters right here and
17:46he follows up with a running body attack at the opposite corner, we then see a knee lift
17:50from the leader of the flock and Perry comes back with a series of kicks followed by a super
17:55kick and a body slam. Raven kicks out of Saturn's pin attempt so Perry delivers a springboard
18:01crossbody, he then goes upstairs where he crashes down onto Raven with a diving splash and when
18:06Raven tries to suplex Perry to the outside, Saturn's able to fight out and Raven takes a hard right
18:12hand, sending the flock's leader crashing into the guardrail. Perry then takes out Raven and
18:17Lodi with a dive over the top rope and this is fast becoming the best match of the night
18:21so far and it's only gotten underway, it's crazy how far a little storyline investment
18:26goes isn't it? Lodi ends up pulling Saturn off the ring apron and this allows Raven to
18:31get back in the ring where Perry takes two middle rope elbow drops, a sunset flip isn't
18:35enough to put Perry away right now and Raven kicks out when Saturn counters, Perry then takes
18:41a clothesline before getting locked in a sleeper hold, Saturn gets out with a jawbreaker, but
18:45Raven stays in the driver's seat by getting to his feet before his opponent. We see those
18:50consecutive Russian leg sweeps that Kenyon definitely taught Raven, and even though Perry's
18:55able to knee Raven in the balls, he still can't take control, Raven seems hard to be denied
18:59at fall brawl, Raven grabs a steel chair and we see his signature drop toe hold, Saturn slaps
19:05the chair with his hand without lowering his head and the spot doesn't look all that good,
19:09there's no crowd reaction and usually the move makes audiences gasp when Raven pulls it off,
19:14Flock members then come to the ring holding a table, we've got Sick Boy, Riggs and Horse,
19:19Billy Kidman shows up and we think he's about to hit the 7 year itch on Perry, but he ends
19:24up drop kicking Raven instead and the crowd goes nuts, the other Flock members chase Billy
19:29away so it's clear Kidman was acting on his own here, this one action though gives Kidman
19:34a good little push in WCW and I'm absolutely here for it. Back in the ring we see the death
19:39valley driver but Lodi distracts Mickie J and Raven's able to kick out of the followup
19:43cover, a loud Saturn chant breaks out as Raven misses a clothesline and Perry goes on a suplex
19:48spree, he's feeding off the crowd here as he follows up with a springboard guillotine
19:52leg drop and a Michinoku driver, but again Raven's hard to beat denied and Perry can't
19:57pin his opponent, so he tries a submission, we haven't seen the rings of Saturn in a long
20:02time on reliving the war, but Perry pulls it off and Lodi's forced to break the move
20:07up. Lodi then tries to attack Saturn from the top rope but he's stopped in his tracks
20:11after Raven takes a low blow, a referee bump leads to Kenyon grabbing the handcuff keys
20:16and freeing himself and Kenyon hits Perry with a flatliner before going back to the outside
20:20and putting himself back in those handcuffs. The referee wakes up, he counts Saturn's shoulders
20:25to the mat but Perry kicks out of two and the roof comes off the arena, this is awesome.
20:30Raven takes another low blow, Saturn then turns his attention to Lodi and we see a death volley
20:36driver through a table, but back in the ring Raven performs an even flow and that has to
20:41be it. One, two, Saturn kicks out, incredible. The match then ends with Raven taking another
20:48death volley driver and Perry Saturn wins at Fall Brawl 1998. The flock has been set free
20:54and the final chapter of the faction turned out to be the best. A brilliant match here and
20:59one that comes highly recommended, do check this one out.
21:07On Thunder, footage from a WCW house show was broadcasted from earlier in the week, a promo
21:13featuring Hacksaw Jim Duggan. It's one of the most heartbreaking promos that WCW ever
21:18aired where Jim announces to the fans that he was diagnosed with cancer and he has to take
21:23a long break from pro wrestling. Jim talked about wanting to still be around for his daughters,
21:29he talked about how he loved pro wrestling even though dirt sheet guys would rip into
21:32him and he wanted fans to pray for his family and pray for him as he goes in for surgery.
21:37It's a very real promo and it's a very sad promo but doctors were going to try to perform
21:42surgery and remove a tumour close to his kidneys, he had a good chance. At Fall Brawl, Tony
21:47Shivani announces on commentary that Jim's wife Deborah called in to WCW offices and Jim's
21:52surgery was a success. Jim was expected to go home the day after Fall Brawl and you'd
21:57assume that it would be more tests in the near future to see if he was cancer free.
22:01So it's another highlight at Fall Brawl 1998, it's a great announcement from Tony Shivani.
22:07Next up we have a rematch from Nitro, it's Kurt Hennig vs Dean Malenko. On Thunder, Arn
22:12Anderson and Eric Bischoff agreed to an armwrestling contest that's gonna happen next Thursday.
22:17If Arn wins, the horsemen can reunite and Ric Flair can also come back, so some pretty big
22:23news on Thursday. Really, I should've covered the whole episode of Thunder in a separate
22:28video. Eric Bischoff of course is completely against Flair coming back, he said Arn and
22:33Ric belong in the museum. Arn also said that Dean Malenko is worthy of calling himself a
22:38horseman, so maybe Dean O'Maschino is gonna join the group if they do indeed return to TV.
22:43This match though, it was pointless, it's pretty short and the Nitro cage match was
22:49a lot better. Basically, this one was just put together so the NWO could get one up on
22:53the enforcer and put him at a disadvantage for the upcoming armwrestling contest on Thunder.
22:58Dean Malenko completely controls the match and Henny gets his ass kicked, Dean's laser
23:03focused on Kurt's knee and he's absolutely relentless when on offense. He even takes Rick
23:08Roode out with no problems at all. Tony Schiavone says that Dean doesn't want to win this match,
23:13he wants to permanently injure Kurt Hennig for what Kurt did at Fall Brawl last year, and Dean's
23:17doing a pretty good job of annihilating his opponent as the leg strikes and leg submissions
23:22continue from bell to bell. In the end, Dean nails Kurt with his own finisher, the perfect
23:27plex, and this makes Rick Roode jump in the ring and the referee calls for a disqualification.
23:32Roode and Hennig then beat Dean up and O'Ravish and Rick's gotten way more physical over this
23:36past month or so, hasn't he? Rumor has it he was considering an in-ring comeback during
23:40this final stretch in WCW. Anyway, Arn Anderson runs down and he has no chance at all, a blow
23:46to the back of the head is enough to put the enforcer on the canvas, and Anderson's arm
23:50then becomes a target as Kurt and Roode try to make sure that Double A doesn't win that
23:54upcoming armwrestling match with Eric Bischoff. This felt like a match that belonged on Nitro
23:59or Thunder to be honest, it shouldn't have been third from last at a pay-per-view, and seeing
24:03as the crowd were chanting we want flair throughout the match, you'd think WCW could've came
24:08up with something a bit more pleasing, it's another dud at FallBrawl98.
24:17We've got the Conan vs Scott Hall match next and as we found out earlier, Scott's in no
24:22shape to wrestle tonight, in storyline anyway. He's sipping on a drink as he makes his way
24:26down to the ring, he almost falls when trying to pose on the top rope, and he's also in
24:31the wrong ring. Vincent passes Scott his drink and the bad guy does a real bad job of hiding
24:36it. He acts all drunk as he completes his survey, well, more drunk than usual let's
24:41say, and it's one more for the good guys even though the fans popped for the red and
24:45black attack. Scott throws Conan by starting in the left ring and then moving over to the
24:49right, 4D chest from the bad guy. Hall throws his toothpick, uh, Conan does this, and Scott
24:56says Conan's packing a wee worm before the two finally lock up. Scott begins with an arm
25:01ringer and he loosens up Conan's shoulder a bit, he then slaps K-Dog around and Conan doesn't
25:06take too kindly to this, clearly. Hall's a bit shocked when Conan gives as good as he gets,
25:11so he gets to his feet to try again. Scott swings from a wristlock to a top wristlock but
25:16it's Conan who slams Scott to the canvas. Hall just sits there knowing he just got made
25:21a fool of again, and it happens one more time when Scott messes Conan around when going for
25:26a test of strength. The bad guy takes the rolling clothesline and when he tries to run away to
25:31the other ring, he ends up getting sandwiched between the two rings. Conan stomps on Hall
25:35and he ends up going under the canvas, so Vincent causes a distraction while Scott tries
25:40to sneak up behind K-Dog. This doesn't work either. So everything Scott's tried's been
25:46snuffed out and his usual underhanded tactics just aren't paying off. Hall goes to the outside
25:50where he has a drink and the commentators joke that he should stay away from Pyro, everyone
25:55knows that a glass of liquor makes you highly flammable. Back in the ring Scott punches Conan
25:59before driving his knee in the K-Dogs back and this one's gonna stay in for quite some
26:03time. Conan tries to fight out but he gets put right back down again, but eventually Conan's
26:09able to counter the move and Hall gets out of Conan's submission with a low blow. Hall performs
26:14a fall away slam, he then locks in an abdominal stretch and Vincent passes him a drink while
26:18he's still got the move locked in. When Conan counters, Hall's able to perform a hip toss
26:23and the match comes to an end when Scott performs a back suplex from the top rope. The bad guy's
26:28about to signal for the outsider's edge but he instead goes back to Vincent to get a drink. Hall
26:33then stops to have a conversation with his NWO teammate and Conan's able to get up, kick the drink in
26:38Hall's face and Conan performs the X Factor. The Tequila Sunrise makes Scott top out and Conan
26:44wins at Fall Brawl 98. It's good to see Conan win on PPV, it's a shame the match was booked
26:50the way it was. Again, I'm not a fan but you may think otherwise, it does have some amusing
26:55moments but it's not a match that I would rank at all. We made it to the end, it's time
27:04for wargames. I've already
27:05talked about how this one differs from previous wargames matches and how the traditional rules
27:10have been tossed out the window, let's just see what happens. Representing Team WCW, we have DDP,
27:16the Warrior and Roddy Piper. Team Hollywood consists of Hollywood Hogan, Stevie Ray and Bret Hart,
27:21although Bret's allegiance has come into question on Nitro. Finally, on Team Wolfpack, it's Kevin Nash,
27:27Lex Luger and Sting. It was already announced that Bret Hart and DDP are gonna start this match off,
27:32and do remember that pinfalls can happen at any time, there's no match beyond and whoever gets
27:37the pinfall or submission victory gets a world title shot. The Hitman begins by focusing on DDP's
27:42arm and shoulder and DDP applies a side headlock. When Page tries to pin Bret early, His Excellency
27:48gets up to smack Page across the face and Page slaps Bret right back. DDP then fires up on Bret
27:53and he
27:53counters a hip toss with a belly to belly suplex, Bret's then forced to dodge a diamond cutter attempt but
27:58he's able to drop Page on the top turnbuckle. Seriously, it's weird seeing Bret Hart in a war
28:03games match and this is a match type that really doesn't suit him. Page gets choked in the corner
28:08and Bret stands on DDP's neck. There's two minutes until someone else gets in the ring as Page comes
28:14back with a few corner strikes but Bret's able to quickly turn it around and Dallas takes a backbreaker.
28:19Why there isn't more urgency to score a pinfall early on is beyond me and you'd think these two would
28:24scramble to win the match as soon as possible as Dallas drops Hart with an arm breaker. Bret does
28:29perform an inside cradle but in 30 seconds a new competitor's gonna enter war games. Page is able
28:34to drop Bret with a clothesline and the next entrant is Stevie Ray. Stevie goes after DDP right away,
28:41it's now 2 minutes in between entrants so from this point on it just gets ridiculously fast. DDP stops an
28:47NWO attack with a double clothesline, the commentators wonder why Stevie Ray doesn't pin DDP when he has a
28:53chance to and the crowd pops when Sting enters war games next and he goes right after Stevie Ray. The
28:59Stinger's all fired up tonight, he performs a dive from one ring to another and he almost didn't make
29:04it too, it's a close one. Bret focuses on DDP right here, remember Sting and Bret have this storyline
29:10going on where Bret's saying there's mutual respect between the two. DDP gets clotheslined just before
29:15the next competitor comes in, it's Team WCW's Roddy Piper and my god, he looks hungry. Piper goes after
29:22everyone, he goes after his own teammate, Roddy said that this is every man for himself and he was
29:28absolutely right. The hot rod just rocks everyone, Sting attacks Stevie Ray in between the rings and
29:33Stevie ends up stuck for a moment. The next man to enter war games is Lex Luger and… what can
29:39I say
29:40here, they're all beating each other up. It's funny how the respective NWO teams are more united than
29:45Team WCW though, keep in mind though that we've still got one more member from each team to enter the
29:51match. Piper applies his signature sleeper hold on Stevie Ray as we count down to the next entrant,
29:56it's big sexy Kevin Nash. The big man goes right after Roddy Piper and he goes to jackknife Stevie Ray,
30:02but then Hollywood Hogan shows up on the entranceway and Hulk enters war games early. Sneaky Hollywood's
30:08got Stevie Ray's slapjack and he takes out Nash and Piper before entering the next ring along with his NWO
30:14teammate. Luger's got the torture rack locked in on Bret Hart and Hollywood decides he's not gonna help
30:19with Bret and he instead attacks Sting and he goes for legs when Bret gets out of the rack,
30:24and then Stevie Ray attacks Bret from behind. Hogan's relationship with Bret has been damaged
30:29ever since Bret announced that he's good friends with Sting. So yeah, you'd really need to be
30:34following Nitro every week to know what the fuck's going on here. Stevie and Hogan get Nash in place
30:39for a few Hollywood leg drops, or maybe they've moved him for another reason. Smoke begins filling the
30:44ring and you know what that means, it's hotbox time at war games. Warrior appears in the ring and Hogan
30:50attacks him right away. Warrior falls down, smoke fills the ring again, and when it all clears up
30:56Hollywood's holding Warrior's jacket but the Warriors vanish down. Where are you? Here.
31:04Warrior then runs down from the entranceway because… magic. And the audience do enjoy Warrior getting
31:11physical with Hulk. Warrior gets distracted with big Stevie Ray and this allows Hogan to escape the
31:16cage, the booty man assists Hogan here. Warrior realizes what's happened, so rather than continuing
31:21the match, the ultimate one decides to kick a cage panel through and he gets out to attack Hogan.
31:26This was a bad move by the way, it was reported that he twisted his ankle here and tore a
31:32bicep right
31:32here. Maybe Warrior should've, you know, filled the ring up with smoke and teleported out of the ring instead.
31:38There is some debate about when the bicep tear happened though and maybe it didn't happen here,
31:43though it was reported. The end of the match gets botched too, Stevie's meant to hit Brett with his
31:48slapjack, he completely misses but Brett takes the bump anyway. Paige hits the diamond cutter on Stevie Ray
31:54and DDP wins the war games match. So right now, it's DDP vs Goldberg at Halloween Havoc. I go into
32:01these
32:01rewatches with an open mind, I do try my best to find the good in what we all thought was
32:06bad,
32:06but I can't really say much about this, it really is as bad as what everyone says and while it's
32:12great
32:12that DDP got rewarded for his hard work in WCW, the match itself was absolutely abysmal.
32:21Ball Brawl Wargames has one good match and that's Saturn vs Raven. Jericho vs Mini Goldberg's alright
32:28for a laugh and the rest ranges from average to very bad. WCW keep putting on bad pay-per-views
32:34for some reason and it's a shame too because last year I thought WCW destroyed WWF when it came to
32:40pay-per-view, this year though, not so much. I really can't recommend Fall Brawl 98 at all,
32:46it hurts me too because I usually love war games matches and previous Fall Brawl events have been
32:51really good but this one was the worst up until this point and there's really nothing to see here
32:57except Saturn vs Raven. If you wanna hear another take on the show, I highly recommend checking out
33:02OSW review's video on Fall Brawl 98 along with their whole WCW warrior arc, I actually recommend
33:09the OSW upload over the actual pay-per-view. We'll see if WCW can bounce back on Thursday night though
33:15for reliving the war, we've got a Sting vs Goldberg main event happening on Nitro so that's something
33:21to look forward to at least. The next pay-per-view I'll be checking out is WWF's Breakdown in your
33:25house so hit the subscribe button to get notified when it goes live. Thanks for watching guys,
33:31I do appreciate it, enjoy the rest of your night and take care.
33:52I do appreciate it, bye.jk,
34:07okay
34:25Gracias por ver el video.
