10:13An NWA title gets defended on a WWF pay-per-view for the very first time. Jeff Jarrett, the
10:18NWA North American Champion, defends against Bradshaw. This one started when Barry Windham
10:23turned his back on Bradshaw to join Jim Cornette's NWA faction, but it looks like Windham won't
10:28be able to interfere in this matchup. He and the Rock'n'Roll Express are sent to the back
10:32while Jim Cornette's allowed to stay because he has a valid manager's license. Bradshaw
10:37stops a sneak attack on the entrance way and he lays in a few stiff shots to Double J, inside
10:42the ring the champ gets whipped with Bradshaw's chops and Jarrett takes a few hard kicks in
10:46the corner, and Bradshaw then throws Jarrett to the other side of the ring. It's all strikes
10:51and chops here and it's all Bradshaw, he no-sells a kick from Double J before almost taking his
10:56head off with a big boot, a clothesline then sends Jarrett out of the ring and the champion's
11:01looking pretty useless right about now. Jarrett and Cornette's heads get smashed together
11:05on the outside but Double J's able to take control when Bradshaw goes after James E, back
11:10inside the ring Jeff floors Bradshaw with a jumping clothesline and he follows this up
11:14with a second rope dropkick and there's no heat at all here. Seeing Bradshaw throw swift
11:19in hard shots is pretty fun but apart from that, it feels like another match that nobody in the
11:24arena really cares about. Cornette chokes Bradshaw on the ropes with the aid of his tennis racket,
11:29he does it again while Double J struts, and Bradshaw decides fuck it, I'm gonna kill this little
11:34shit so he chases Cornette into the ring but he's met with a clothesline from Jeff Jarrett. The crowd's
11:40now chanting Jarrett sucks as Bradshaw pulls off a pretty aggressive inside cradle, Double J's sunset
11:45flip completely fails as does his leapfrog gating but Jim Cornette manages to hit Bradshaw on the
11:51knee with his racket. You think Jeff's targeted attack on Bradshaw's knee is gonna lead to the
11:56figure 4 but it stops abruptly when he hits a DDT instead. He then gets his little slapnut smashed
12:02on the top rope and his crossbody gets caught out, leading to a Bradshaw fall away slam. Bradshaw performs
12:08a powerbomb, Cornette gets on the apron, so Bradshaw forces James E in and he gets whipped into Double J
12:14in the
12:14middle of the ring. Jarrett then hits Bradshaw with Cornette's racket and the referee saw it so the
12:19match ends in disqualification. Bradshaw gets a little payback afterwards, he takes out the
12:24Rock and Roll Express, he refocuses on Jim Cornette and Cornette gets body slammed. Barry Windham traps
12:30Bradshaw and the ANWA launch a group attack, Windham floors Bradshaw with a big old clothesline and here
12:36comes professional lifesavers hawk an animal to save the day, the Houston audience absolutely love the
12:41Legion of Doom. The ANWA group bail and Bradshaw celebrates in the ring, it's not quite the
12:47breakout performance for Bradshaw as a singles competitor but it was a small, a very small step
12:52in the right direction. We then go backstage and for the first time ever, Triple H looks tired,
12:58seriously, I haven't seen him look like this during the entire reliving the war series so far
13:03and that's because Hunter was babysitting HBK during Sean's downward spiral. He says here that no one
13:09replaces the showstopper, so tonight's main event will be a handicap match, 3 on 4. Hunter doesn't want a
13:16Shawn Michaels replacement, Michael Cole says that WWF officials are likely to appoint someone if
13:22someone hasn't been selected and Hunter says the fourth man can stand in the corner, stand in the
13:27apron, hold up the turnbuckles, he can do whatever he wants and it isn't gonna matter because the
13:32result's gonna be the same. So this confirms that neither HBK nor Triple H selected the mystery partner,
13:38the outlaws also have no idea who it is, so the fourth man has been selected by the World Wrestling
13:44Federation. The war of attrition's up next, the nation of domination vs the dirty old assholes
13:53Ahmed Johnson and Ken Shamrock. At the forefront of this match is the Rock's feud with Kennyboy
13:58and the rising tensions within the nation between Rocky and nation leader Farouk. I'm sure a lot of
14:04folks completely forget what happens in the match but they remember Rocky during the nation's pre-match
14:09interview and that's because he's fucking hilarious here. Rock tries to speak before Farouk and the
14:14nation's leader takes the mic away and he tells Rock he's going the right way for an ass whooping,
14:19Farouk then gives a standard promo about the nation beating their opponents tonight and all that stuff,
14:24but Rock plays up to the cameras by saying he's the champ, he makes fun of smacking Shamrock on Raw,
14:29and he also rolls his eyes at Farouk while looking at the nation's leader up and down as if to
14:34say,
14:35get a load of this guy right here. The Rock rolling his eyes has become legendary but his
14:40other mannerisms are brilliant too as he trolls his leader while putting himself over, check it out
14:45when you get a chance but I'm sure you've seen this before. So forget the tagline, this is a
14:50standard 10 man tag, first fall to a finish, as the match gets underway, Jerry Dollar asks Jim Ross,
14:56what does attrition actually mean? And after delaying for a bit and thinking about it, Ross says it means
15:01to be eliminated and to be destroyed. The King's like, alright. D'Lo and Skull start things off and
15:08Skull gets the best of D'Lo with a swinging neckbreaker and a big boot. Kenny Boy Shamrock comes in
15:13and D'Lo
15:13takes further punishment with a jumping back elbow, a punch to the mouth and a Japanese arm drag. Chains
15:18gets the better of Kama after a big boot, a body slam and an elbow drop, but a rake to
15:23the eyes allows Kama
15:25to tag in big Mark Henry. The World's Strongest Man wants Ahmed Johnson and Ahmed's more than happy to
15:30tag in and get up in Henry's face. There's a loud cheer when Henry and Ahmed throw punches at each
15:35other and Mark gets the better of Ahmed early on, but Ahmed gets all the fan support when he performs
15:41a body slam on the World's Strongest Man. D'Lo comes in and although he takes a front sit down
15:46suplex,
15:47he still manages to climb to the top rope and perform a frog splash. It looked like Ahmed was rolling
15:52away
15:52from D'Lo here instead of maybe helping him out a little by getting in a better position,
15:57and then an old rivalry gets re-ignited when Farouk gets in the ring. Unfortunately,
16:01Farouk and Ahmed's time gets cut short, Johnson performs a big spinebuster and he's all fired up
16:06afterwards, but he then tags out when The Rock saves Farouk from a Pearl River plunge. Farouk softens
16:12up Kenny Boy Shamrock with a low blow before tagging in Rocky, The People's Champ pulls off a very fast
16:18DDT and Kama gets tagged back in after Rock does a little damage in the corner. The Biker Michael
16:24Lackers then tag in and tag out a few times and it's Kama that takes the punishment, D'Lo comes
16:29back in and he delivers a modified frog splash, turning it into an elbow drop. Here comes The
16:34Rock again to lend D'Lo a hand before delivering The People's Elbow, and then Kama tags in and he
16:39applies a chin lock. Chains and The Rock keep the crowd fired up before D'Lo gets back in,
16:44and D'Lo gets another chance to show off his aerial abilities. He misses a moonsault but the motion was
16:50definitely smooth. When Shamrock and The Rock get tagged in, all hell breaks loose and we get the
16:56loudest pop of the night so far. The fans rise from their seats as everyone gets in the ring for
17:01a big
17:01old brawl, and then the match comes to an end when Rock and Farouk try to throw their opponents into
17:06each other but it doesn't work out as planned. Rock takes a belly to belly from Shamrock while Chains
17:10takes care of Farouk, Shamrock applies the ankle lock, and The Rock taps out. I know it's not
17:16strictly a gang war match because of Shamrock and Ahmed's inclusion, but if you want to consider it
17:21so, I'd say this is the best gang war match of the whole run, it's also Ahmed Johnson's final WWF
17:27match.
17:28The Rock gets up in Farouk's face, you can see The Rock saying I'm the fucking champ as he shows
17:33his
17:33displeasure on how the match ended, he shoves Farouk, Farouk punches D'Lo, Rock leaves the ring but Farouk
17:39orders Rocky to come back. Things get tense again as Farouk tells Rock to fall in line and stand with
17:45his nation teammates for a show of unity, The Rock agrees to do it but you can tell he's not
17:51happy
17:51with how this all played out. Steve Austin, like everyone else in the main event, doesn't care
18:00who the mystery man is on the heel team tonight. He says it's fun to beat people up anywhere in
18:05the
18:05world but when you beat someone's ass in Texas then you've really done something. Austin then
18:10tells Cole to beat it, the interview's over. So far, only two people have been able to do any significant
18:17damage to Kane, Mick Foley and more recently, Vader. Foley put up a valiant effort against Kane at
18:23Survivor Series 1997 but he was ultimately defeated and Vader was able to hit Kane with a piledriver
18:29but Kane delivered one right back. Vader was also able to chase Kane away from the ring by using a
18:34fire extinguisher, so Vader's got a match against Kane at No Way Out and you guessed it, he didn't bring
18:40a
18:40fire extinguisher. Vader shows no fear at the beginning of the match and he tries some of those big forearm
18:45shots but Kane performs a short arm clothesline and Vader goes to the outside. He tries the forearm shots
18:51again but the devil's favourite demon seems invincible and they have no effect. Kane drapes
18:56Vader over the apron for a few shots and a fist drop, Vader gets his head slammed into the ring
19:01steps and back inside the ring, Vader gets the better of Kane with a standing switch followed by a bunch
19:06of shots to the back of the head, Vader dumps his opponent out of the ring and Kane gets introduced
19:11to
19:11the ring post. The big red machine isn't going down but he's definitely stunned, for a moment anyway.
19:17Kane jumps off the top rope with a diving clothesline, he gets vicious in the corner as the crowd chants
19:22for Vader, he performs a big suplex in the middle of the ring and Paul Bear laughs his ass off
19:28and Kane
19:28shows off his athleticism while Vader is draped over the top rope, this is a move he'd end up removing
19:33from his arsenal though. The destruction continues with a clothesline from Kane but when Vader gets backed up
19:39in the corner, he starts fighting back. A few of those punches definitely connect too and Kane has
19:44to lower his head to push Vader back in the corner, good stuff. In comparison to the McFoley match,
19:49this one has definitely felt more like a traditional wrestling match and fans are getting to see what
19:54Kane's truly capable of here. The big red machine body slams Vader and he snaps his neck off the top
20:00rope while jumping to the outside. Vader tries his best to keep Kane out of the ring afterwards but Kane
20:05comes
20:05back with the DDT, he goes for a chokeslam but Vader kicks him in the balls before delivering a
20:10clothesline and Vader's feeling confident now while Paul Bear begins to panic. Vader performs a splash,
20:16he then goes up for the moonsault and he lands it. Jim Ross says that's it, that's it over but
20:22Kane
20:22sets up and yeah, it's over alright, it's over for Vader. He takes it to the outside once again but
20:28he
20:28gets thrown into the guardrails and oh yeah, the fire extinguisher comes into play, I knew he'd remember it.
20:34Kane gets blinded temporarily and this gives Vader a chance to hit a powerbomb, Paul Bear gets on the
20:40apron, Vader gets distracted, we see a chokeslam and there's the tombstone piledriver, Kane wins the
20:46match. I'm not so sure they should've went with Paul getting on the apron, Kane should need no help
20:51whatsoever on his path of destruction and that's really the only complaint I have about this match.
20:57It was good seeing Kane do a lot more and after all this time, we got the first glimpse of
21:02Kane's
21:03expanded moveset, so it wasn't a bad match at all, predictable but not bad. Before leaving,
21:09Kane decides to hit Vader with a wrench just to prove a point, and officials and doctors have
21:14to rush down to attend to Vader, the big man ends up getting stretchered out of the arena.
21:23It's time for the main event, a non-sanctioned 8man tag, Triple H has problems with Owen Hart stemming
21:29from the old Hart Foundation vs DX days, Cactus Jack and Chainsaw Charlie want revenge for what the
21:34outlaws did to them on Raw with the dumpster fall, and Stone Cold Steve Austin wanted to get his hands
21:40on Shawn Michaels tonight before Wrestlemania but HBK isn't in Houston, Texas. Howard Finkel reminds
21:46fans that anything goes in this main event before the outlaws make their entrance, Road Dog introduces
21:51Triple H and remember too, this is Triple H's return match, he's been on the shelf since late December,
21:57though he did have house show matches on the Friday and Saturday before No Way Out,
22:01Howard Finkel then announces Shawn Michaels' replacement.
22:23Nah, only joking, it's Savio Vega. Now, I don't need to tell you guys who watched Reliving the War that
22:29Savio
22:30was a good performer, he most definitely was, and JR King and Triple H were right when they said there
22:36was no replacing Shawn Michaels, but Savio wouldn't have been my first choice here at all and you can
22:41hear groans in the arena as Vega makes his way down to the ring. Quite simply, Vega wasn't seen as
22:47a
22:48main eventer, he did tie in with D-Generation X a little seeing as DX paid the barriguas twice to
22:53do some
22:54dirty work, but still, it's not great is it? You know who I would've put in here? I would've put
22:59The Rock in, he was the last person to feud with Austin before Royal Rumble and it also feeds into
23:05The Rock's issues with the Nation of Domination, you know, wanting to be on another team for the night,
23:10you could've had Farouk coming out too and trying to stop Rocky but fuck it, I'm just thinking out
23:15loud again. So yeah, Shawn's out, Savio's in, and it wasn't a popular decision. Owen Hart gets a great
23:21reaction, Cactus and Chainsaw get a great reaction, but the roof comes off the arena when Stone Cold
23:27Steve Austin makes his way down to the ring. It's now time for the No Way Out of Texas main
23:31event.
23:35Billy Gunn and Stone Cold start things off and Gunn gets his ass kicked by the Rattlesnake,
23:40everyone else joins in and we have fights going on all over the ring. Badass and Stone Cold are right
23:46in the middle though and Gunn takes a trash can lid to the face. Stone Cold goes for a stunner
23:50but Billy
23:51Gunn gets out of harm's way. Can't help but think that this is how it should have started with
23:55Michaels and Austin but Austin uses the trash can lid on Road Dogg and Triple H takes a flare
24:00corner bump before getting clotheslined by Stone Cold. The focus stays on Austin as he chokes Triple
24:05H with a mop at the commentary table. Inside the ring, Cactus Jack smacks Road Dogg with a tray while
24:11Austin breaks a broomstick over Hunter's back, Chainsaw Charlie sets a table up in the corner and Road
24:16Dogg gets thrown into it and then Owen Hart performs a hip toss on Billy Gunn that sends
24:20Badass through the table. It's absolute chaos to start this one off and fans inside the arena
24:25absolutely love it. Triple H breaks up Owen Hart's sharpshooter on Billy Gunn and Badass goes out to
24:31attack Steve Austin beside the timekeeper's table. In the middle of all the pandemonium we see a rare
24:36powerbomb from Triple H on Owen Hart, Hunter then wrecks Chainsaw Charlie with a trash can and when Funk asks
24:42for
24:42more, the king of the ring plants him with a DDT. Owen applies a sharpshooter on Triple H and Road
24:47Dogg breaks
24:48it up. It looks like the guys want to try and gain a bit of order and everyone goes to
24:52their corner after
24:53Road Dogg powerbombs Terry Funk through two chairs set up in the ring. Billy Gunn comes in and he hits
24:58Charlie with a piledriver and then Triple H tags in to do some damage to Chainsaw followed by Savio Vega
25:04and the Road Dogg. Everyone's taking turns at beating up poor Terry Funk. You wanna see the moment of the
25:09match?
25:10It's Austin launching a trash can at Billy Gunn from the apron. It's so good. The replay looks good too,
25:16it's definitely worth watching twice. There's a front facelock from Savio Vega. Funk manages to tag in Owen
25:22but the referee doesn't see it, so the heel battle plan's easy to work out here, single out one guy
25:28and focus
25:28all your efforts on that one guy. Hunter hits Chainsaw with a chair and Chainsaw falls out of the ring,
25:34landing
25:35right on his head. Back inside the ring, Terry creates an opportunity to tag out when he delivers a shoulder
25:40block
25:41and here comes Cactus Jack taking out everything that moves before placing a wooden panel on top of Road Dogg
25:47and throwing Billy Gunn into the corner where Road Dogg was seated. Billy Gunn takes a double arm DDT, Road
25:53Dogg
25:53and Billy Gunn take the mandible claw, but Mick has to release both outlaws when Hunter hits him with a
25:58low blow.
26:02Cactus and Road Dogg go to the outside and Cactus gets met with a DDT from badass Billy Gunn. He
26:08then
26:08gets his head caved in by the ring steps and Triple H then tags in and he delivers a suplex
26:13to Cactus
26:13Jack. After this, all the heels get in the ring to do some damage to Cactus and Savio Vega decides
26:19to
26:19wrap barbed wire all over Mick Foley. He even wraps it around Foley's mouth and the crowd are surprised
26:25when they realize what's going on. The heels then use a steel chair and they take turns hitting Foley
26:30and no one tries to save his teammate but his efforts are all for nothing. I'm not sure why
26:35Hebner's not enforcing the rules when there's a man wrapped in fucking barbed wire right there but
26:39we see more chair shots with Savio Vega's being a lot harder than everyone else's, that's what she said.
26:46We can hear Billy Gunn call Cactus a motherfucker before he swings the chair but he accidentally smacks
26:51Road Dog. Cactus then desperately reaches out for a tag and Stone Cold Steve Austin gets back in the
26:57match and he takes everyone out. Every member of the heel team feels the wrath of Stone Cold
27:02and the crowd lose their shit. The match then ends with Road Dog Jesse James taking a Stone Cold stunner
27:08and… what can you say really? Chaotic? Yes. Unstructured? Yes. Fun to watch? It's fine. I know people
27:16prefer matches like this to a more traditional main event. Really, this main event was intended to build
27:22towards all guys involved meeting up at Wrestlemania in separate matches, well except Savio Vega, but
27:28it's also all over the place and you don't really get to see what each competitor is truly capable of.
27:33Before we go off the air, Chyna gets in the ring and she squares up to Stone Cold. Chyna shoves
27:38Austin
27:39twice and Austin can't believe what Chyna's doing here. He tries to leave but Chyna flips him off and as
27:45Austin would say, that's something you just don't do. So Stone Cold gets back in the ring and Chyna
27:50takes a Stone Cold stunner. Austin celebrates with his Texas audience and the show fades to black.
27:59No Way Out of Texas was an average show in my opinion that, in places, felt like an episode of
28:05Raw's War. Too many tag matches would be my main complaint and I didn't care much for the Quebekers
28:11match and the NWA US title match. Everything else ranged from average to okay with the best
28:17matches on the card for me being the nation 10 man tag in the Kane vs Vader match. I only
28:23include
28:24Kane vs Vader because we got to see the big red machine do a little more in the ring. The
28:28main
28:28event was okay too and it's fun watching the crowd pop for Austin but Michaels missing the match kinda
28:34sucked and for a multi-man match of its size, it was maybe too busy. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend
28:40No Way Out, you can do much better than this. Rawl Rumble 1998 was a better pay per view, WCW
28:46Sold Out 98 was a better pay per view but let's find out if it was more entertaining than WCW's
28:52Super
28:52Brawl 8 show. The next pay per view we'll check out in the re-living the war timeline.
28:56Thanks for watching this one guys, I hope you enjoyed it.
