00:12WCW NWO World War 3 1998 took place in Auburn Hills, Michigan on November 22nd. Just over
00:1817,500 fans attended the event with an estimate of 250,000 people watching on pay-per-view,
00:24WCW's lowest pay-per-view buy rate of the year. It's not really all that surprising
00:29either, the build of World War 3 1998 was almost non-existent with a few matches only getting
00:33announced on the previous episode of Nitro. We've got Bret Hart vs DDP in the main event
00:38tonight and we've also got the big three-ring battle royal with the winner going on to Starcade
00:42to face the world champion. And speaking of the world champ, Goldberg is here at World
00:47War 3. We don't know why he's here because again, WCW didn't book a world title match
00:51for one of their big pay-per-views but we'll see Goldberg again a little later on.
01:00We go back in time for our opening match, it's Glacier vs Wrath. This time Wrath's a babyface
01:06though in Glacier's The Heel. Wrath's been on a win streak himself over these past few
01:10months so going into this one you already feel like you know the outcome. Anyway, Blood runs
01:15cold again in WCW. The fans boo Glacier before the action begins and they cheer when Wrath throws
01:20Frosty Balls out of the ring. A Glacier sucks chant then begins before Sub-Zero gets back inside
01:26the ropes and he thinks he's doing well after dropkicking the big man, but Wrath no-sells
01:31it and Glacier takes a chop. Chilicho gets well acquainted with the guardrails, he gets
01:35knocked into one and thrown over another. The two men then fight in the crowd for a bit
01:40with Wrath maintaining control and back in the ring Glacier gets turned inside out after
01:44taking a lariat. Mike Tanay announces here that Wrath's schedule to appear in the Mortal
01:48Combat TV show as the action continues. How ironic. Glacier takes a ton of kicks in the corner
01:53and Wrath chokes his opponent out on the bottom rope. Glacier then suffers from another hard
01:58clothesline and this has been insanely one sided so far. It goes back to the outside where
02:03Wrath chops Glacier and Glacier gets choked out with some cord before the referee steps
02:07in to help. Glacier wants a timeout but that's not going to happen today, instead Glacier takes
02:13a chin lock, that's what you get. Glacier does get a break when Wrath misses a splash,
02:17he tries a cryonic kick but he doesn't get all of it, so he goes for his new move, the
02:22ice pick, but Wrath blocks it and the match ends with a meltdown. A predictable match but
02:27still pretty fun. It's kinda funny how Wrath ended up the most popular wrestler after all
02:32the Blood Runs cold stuff wrapped up but that's pro wrestling for ya.
02:39Up next we have a battle between NWO factions as Stevie Ray of the Black and White takes
02:44on Conan of the Wolfpack. No doubt the outcome will be inconsequential because this Wolfpack
02:49vs Hollywood feud hasn't moved forward at all since it began. I know I'm sounding negative
02:53here but it's true, Wolfpack vs Hollywood matches are now filler matches. Vincent accompanies
02:59Stevie down to the ring whereas K-Daw goes it alone. Stevie takes the advantage in the early
03:03going as he backs Conan into the corner and he goes to work with clubs and kicks, but
03:07Conan counters a corner charge and he connects with his rolling lariat. The crowd are really
03:11behind K-Daw in this one so of course he has to stop that momentum in its tracks by applying
03:16a seated abdominal stretch. The two make it to their feed and Stevie takes control with
03:21another shot across the back before attempting a sidekick which misses by a mile but Conan still
03:26goes down. Stevie then gets a two count following a pretty ropey looking clothesline. Conan gets thrown
03:32to the outside and Stevie distracts the referee while Vincent goes on the attack. Imagine just
03:37for a moment getting beat up by Virgil, you may as well just hang up the boots and okay
03:40dog, it's over. Back in the ring, Stevie keeps his advantage
03:43with stomps and an elbow drop before applying a devastating chin lock. Incredibly, Conan's
03:48able to survive its disastrous effects and he's able to come back with a backslide before
03:52getting dropped with another clothesline. Stevie says that's it before missing his subsequent
03:57elbow drop, good work there big lad and this allows Conan to hit his K-factor facebuster.
04:02A distraction leads to an attempted double team but Vincent predictably hits Stevie with
04:07his slapjack. Instead of going for a pin, Conan instead mounts Stevie and lays into him with
04:12a series of punches. He refuses to relent and the referee calls for the bail, resulting in
04:16a DQ. A thoroughly forgettable match with a really flat finish, it must be said. Following
04:22the bout, Booker T makes his way to the ring to call Conan off. This angers Stevie Ray and
04:27he says he doesn't need Booker's help because he's got Vincent. Man, Conan must have really
04:31clobbered him to make him think that way.
04:36Tag team action next as the team of Ernest Miller and Sonny Ono take on Saturn and Kaz Hayashi.
04:41Sonny Ono's announced as having an undefeated 3-0 record as he makes his way to the ring,
04:45one of which was a win over Kaz Hayashi on WCW Saturday night. Miller says he'll give
04:50Hayashi 5 seconds to leave the ring. Kaz accepts this gracious offer by tagging in Saturn who lays
04:55into Miller with a few right hands, which ironically makes the ket leave the ring after approximately
05:005 seconds. Kaz comes back in and points to Sonny, but this ket is very protective of his
05:06master and he performs a body slam on Hayashi. He hits a second body slam before tagging in
05:11Ono who hits a few admittedly quite stiff looking kicks to his former protege, but Kaz is made
05:17of stern stuff and they have no effect on him. Sonny offers his countryman some cash but Kaz
05:22politely rejects this offer by batting the money away. Honestly, this has been quite
05:27painful to watch thus far, gotta admit. Saturn looks to inject some life into proceedings
05:31with a beautiful head and arm suplex and a spinning back elbow. A leg sweep by the ket
05:35takes down Saturn as Heenan ponders whether that money in the ring is American or Japanese.
05:40The ket looks to bring Sonny back in, who wants no part of this match but he gets tagged
05:45in anyway. He tries to tag back out immediately but the ket's having none of it and Sonny ends
05:49up in an STF. A double dropkick from Perry and Kaz bringing the crowd to their feet but
05:54a thumb to the eye and some cheap shots from the apron stop their momentum. The ket should
05:59stick to karate as he's unfamiliar with the ways of chin lockery as his attempt is countered
06:03with a jawbreaker. Saturn comes in and he applies a side headlock. Christ alive, this
06:08is the coldest hot tag I've ever seen. So much so that when Perry and Sonny come face
06:12to face the crowd couldn't care less. Again, Saturn tries to bring some life to the match with
06:17a few picture perfect suplexes to the ket but it's much too late at this point. The match
06:21ends with Saturn applying a front face lock to Ono to set up for a suplex but the ket hits
06:26his feline kick and Ono falls on top of Perry for the pin and the win. The match was a
06:31pretty
06:31rough watch and it's definitely the worst match on the card thus far.
06:41Juventud Guerrera defends his cruiserweight title against Billy Kidman next and Juvie's
06:45joined the latino world order. Mean Gene can't believe it, squeaky clean Juventud Guerrera's
06:49now a bad guy and Eddie shows up to explain that Juvie's seen the light. Rey Mysterio,
06:54meanwhile, isn't happy at all about this. Rey could've been competing for the cruiserweight
06:59belt tonight and it looks like Eddie stopped that from happening in order to protect Juvie.
07:02So Rey says he's gonna do something about this.
07:06This is a match we've seen many many times but we've now got a heel Juventud Guerrera.
07:10Kidman's first to go down after a shoulder block and he goes down again after this Famouser
07:15right here from Juvie. Guerrera hits his head scissor takedown, Kidman instantly replies with
07:19a set out spinebuster, Kidman then delivers his leg drop from the apron and Guerrera hits
07:24a spinebuster of his own. There's quite a lot of impact when Kidman delivers a clothesline
07:28to the champ and when Guerrera tries to reply with a top rope attack, he ends up taking
07:32a dropkick. Hoovey then gets dumped out of the ring and Billy delivers a plancha, we then
07:37see a pretty risky diving hurricane runner from Hoovey while Kidman was standing on the
07:41apron and this stuns Kidman enough that Hoovey's able to throw him back in the ring and the
07:45challenger takes a brainbuster. Guerrera then performs a springboard dropkick that sends Billy
07:50out of the ring and Hoovey keeps the pressure on with a springboard splash to the outside and
07:54a leg drop from the apron back into the ring. The match then gets a bit more interesting
07:58when the competitors start utilizing the other two rings. Unfortunately, it doesn't start
08:03well with a bocce dropkick from Hoovey, but Kidman has more luck when performing a head
08:08scissor takedown from one ring to another. Billy then lines up another ring to ring move as Hoovey
08:13recuperates and Billy's able to step from one set of ropes to another for a crossbody attack,
08:18and then Kidman gets backdropped over one set of ropes and he ends up draped over another
08:23set of ropes. Hoovey then performs a top rope hurricane rana. Guerrera hits the Hoovey driver
08:28but he can't follow up with the cover, he ends up going to the top and he misses the
08:32450. Hoovey then counters a pop-up powerbomb with a pinning hurricane rana and when Kidman
08:36kicks out at two, Guerrera forgets himself and he slaps Charles Robinson. I think this was
08:41a heat of the moment thing because Charlie looks pissed but the match continues on with
08:45Kidman hitting a facebuster. Hoovey then takes a wheelbarrow suplex, Kidman goes up for the
08:50shooting star but Guerrera stops him from performing his finisher. The match ends when Guerrera goes
08:55for a top rope hurricane rana but Rey Mysterio shows up to make sure Kidman doesn't go anywhere.
09:00Rey holds on to Kidman, Hoovey crashes to the mat and Kidman hits the shooting star press.
09:05Kidman wins the cruiserweight title after losing it just 6 days ago and here comes the LWO to
09:11tear Rey Mysterio a new one. Eddie's mad, he tells Rey to make a choice, he's either in or
09:16out. Rey didn't want to be part of the LWO anyway so he throws his shirt at Eddie and Eddie
09:20tells
09:21his group to attack, Rey gets out of harm's way and that's how it ends. You can't go wrong with
09:26Hoovey then to Guerrera vs Billy Kidman, I enjoy their matches a lot but I also think it's starting
09:31to get a little bit repetitive. There's many more talented cruiserweights who could work with Kidman
09:35and it's time for a few of those guys to get their chance.
09:42Alright it's time for the bait and switch portion of World War 3, two advertised matches
09:47that don't happen in it's two featured matches to boot, Scott Steiner in Buff Bagwell
09:51vs Rick Steiner in Judy Bagwell and also Scott Hall vs Kevin Nash. Judy was put in hospital
09:57so the match gets changed to Scott Steiner vs Rick Steiner, that would've been fine and
10:02actually, it would've been even better than the original plan but that match also doesn't
10:07happen, well it's very inconclusive put it that way. Scott and Buff come to the ring
10:11with their dodgy NWO referee but when Rick's music plays he doesn't make his entrance,
10:16he got jumped by NWO Hollywood backstage. The giant ends up bringing Rick down to the ring,
10:22he gets thrown inside the ropes and both Scott and Buff beat Rick up for a bit before Bagwell
10:26decides Scott can handle this all on his own. Rick fights back but he's not at 100%, it's
10:32doesn't take long for Scott to hit a low blow and Buff continues to interfere on the
10:35outside. It's absolutely insane that WCW didn't book Rick vs Scott one on one with
10:41no bullshit and it's even more insane they decided to keep producing these unfair and
10:45one sided showdowns between the Steiners. I know that's how the NWO operated but still,
10:50just one match would've been good enough without all the nonsense. When Rick gets put in the
10:55recliner, Bill Goldberg shows up, Scott flips him off before going back to Rick and I gotta
11:00say, the crowd reaction to Steiner and Goldberg going at it is absolutely brilliant. Scott
11:05also takes a great look in Spear before getting set up for the jackhammer but Bagwell hits Goldberg
11:10with a chair. Goldberg no-sells it so Slick Johnson jumps on Billy Boy's back and he instantly
11:15regrets that decision. The world champ sends the referee from one ring to another and that's
11:20how the match ends. Again, to give credit where it's due, the crowd came alive when Goldberg
11:25showed up and the spear looked really good. Scott Hall then came out for his match against
11:30Kevin Nash and he's brought the black and white with him. Eric Bischoff then makes his
11:33way down to the ring and remember, Scott Hall attacked Eric this past week on Nitro. Scott
11:39questioned where Eric's head was at on Monday and Eric said that Hall should be the last guy
11:43to ask anyone where their head's currently at. And it all broke down with Hall attacking
11:48Eric and Hulk Hogan attacking Scott. Big Kev, surprisingly, ran down for the save. So Bischoff gets in the ring
11:54at World War 3 and he says, it's survey time. Survey says, get him. Scott gets jumped by NW
12:01Hollywood and once again, Scott's opponent and old friend Kevin Nash runs down to clear
12:06out the ring. Scott and Kevin work together and they wipe out NW Hollywood. It's now time
12:11for the match to begin, only it doesn't begin. A loud outsider's chant begins in the arena
12:16and Scott puts the Turkish Wolf up but Nash decides to walk away. The crowd boos as Scott's
12:21left hanging and they boo again when they realise that the match isn't going to happen. Absolute
12:26dogshit right here from WCW and it's no wonder fans were quickly losing faith in this company.
12:35The television titles on the line as champion Chris Jericho defends his gold against Bobby
12:40Duncombe Jr. Not bad going for old Bobby, from debuting on the previous Nitro to a TV title
12:45match on PPV six days later. As for Chris, well, Chris wanted a Goldberg match to happen
12:51on PPV and of course that didn't happen, so Bobby Duncombe Jr is a compromise, I guess.
12:56These two do have some previous as Bobby defeated Jericho in that debut match on Nitro via countout,
13:02and then on the go home thunder, the TV champ got hogtied. So let's see if the cowboy can
13:07become a cowman here at WW3. Jericho makes his way to the ring flanked by his security guard
13:13Ralfus, a fine specimen I think we can all agree. The big Texan shows off his power advantage
13:18early on by shoving Jericho and Chris retreats to the outside to the loving arms of Ralfus.
13:23Back in the ring, Jericho looks to gain some retribution for this past Thursday by tying up
13:27the legs of Duncombe Jr. before transitioning into a surfboard stretch. The challenger floors
13:32the TV champ with a lariat before suplexing Jericho back into the ring from the apron,
13:37Mr Duncombe seems to be trying his best to appeal to the reliving the war faithful by slapping
13:42on a chinlock in the early going, good man. Jericho looks to fight back with a big boot
13:47but Bobby's boot's bigger and Jericho gets dropped. On the outside, Jericho gets tossed
13:51into the guardrails and Bobby fails to grab a Jericho t-shirt from a fan at ringside, that's
13:56quite embarrassing there big lad. Jericho hits a clothesline off the guardrail and gets a
14:00near fall from a missile dropkick back in the ring. Jericho shows his chinlock credentials
14:05but his advantage doesn't last long as Bobby comes back with a shoulder breaker. The champion
14:09of television fights back with a stun gun before hitting his signature springboard dropkick.
14:13Bobby gets tossed into the ring steps as Jericho blows us a kiss and back in the ring, Jericho
14:18attempts to put Duncombe away with his one footpin. Jericho takes it back down to the mat with
14:22a front facelock before hitting a spin kick in the corner. Bobby explodes out of the opposite
14:27corner with a big clothesline which gets him a two count. He keeps the pressure on with
14:31a few hard chops in the corner and a big flapjack before running Jericho over with yet another
14:36clothesline. Duncan hits a nice chokebomb on the champ for another two, but Jericho hits
14:41a quick clothesline of his own followed by a lion salt for a near fall. As much as the crowd
14:45gets better into Jericho, they aren't into this much at all. Even a big superplex from
14:50Brett's rope doesn't elicit much of a response. Jericho looks to end it with a lion tamer but
14:55Bobby fights him off and he connects with a, I guess, a Vader bomb elbow drop? I don't know,
15:00but either way, it only gets a two. Ralfus grabs Bobby's foot and this causes the challenger to become
15:06distracted by Jericho's bodyguard, but then again, aren't we all distracted by Ralfus? Jericho takes the
15:12opportunity to hit Bobby with the TV title and Chris Jericho successfully defends his gold at World
15:17War 3. Again, another bout where the crowd really didn't make a lot of noise, but a lot of that
15:22could be contributed to the lack of chemistry that these two had in the ring. Jericho tried his best
15:27to get something out of the fans and get a reaction but the fans seemed pretty difficult to please.
15:32You can't really blame them either though after everything else that's already happened at this show.
15:40It's time for the World War 3 Battle Royal, one of the most difficult matches to cover in review form
15:45because it's just bedlam from start to end. There are a few differences this year though, firstly,
15:51the dreaded triple camera presentation has been removed so that's good, but that also means we're
15:56going to miss the vast majority of eliminations. Pinfalls and submissions also count this year for
16:01eliminations but this new rule doesn't get utilised at all so I'm not sure why WCW bothered. And you
16:07also get eliminated for leaving the ring for any reason, you don't need to get thrown over the top
16:12rope, if your feet touch the floor, you're out. Alex Wright's the first man to walk down the aisle
16:17and hopefully he'll also be the last to walk back up the aisle. We've got Chavo Guerrero, Chris Benoit,
16:23Saturn, The Booty Man, Disco Infernos here, members of the Latino World Order including the great
16:29L Dandy, 1996 World War winner The Giant, an absolutely shattered Chris Jericho, Booker T,
16:36Big Papa Pump, last year's winner Scott Hall, Big Steve McMichaels in World War 3, we've got Lex
16:42Luger, Conan and Kevin Nash of the Wolf Pack, my boy and your boy, Tokyo Magnum, and we've got loads
16:48more that I can't be bothered mentioning. Conspicuous by his absence though is Hulk Hogan, remember Hogan
16:53was a surprise entrant last year but he's not involved in this one at all. The competitors get in the
16:58ring,
16:59the final 20 men will get in the centre ring for the final moments of the match,
17:02so let's check out some highlights before then. First man out is Norman Smiley followed by Super
17:08Colo, Nash eliminated both men. We've got this handy little counter down here that tells us how many
17:13men are left but what are the chances of WCW getting this right? Nash then eliminates Lodi,
17:19Liz Mark Jr and Scott Putzke, Big Kev's cleaning house. He then eliminates Kenny Chaos and Silver King,
17:25Van Hammer takes out Mike Ennis and Nash eliminates Hammer. Kevin Nash has pretty much cleared out ring
17:31number 3 all on his own and now he's waiting until there's 20 men left. We've got no idea who
17:36got
17:36eliminated from the other rings but Alex Wright's still in ring number 1 so it's all good. In ring 2,
17:41Scott Hall dumps Psychosis out with a fall away slam and ring 2 definitely has the most guys left.
17:46Nash meanwhile is standing all alone waiting to get involved again. Kenyon and Kaz Hayashi get eliminated at
17:52the same time, there's a group effort to eliminate Alex Wright but Daz Wunderkin stays in it. Horace
17:57and the disciple eliminate themselves at the same time and the giant tries to eliminate Alex Wright
18:02but no, that's not how you beat the big brat first. A group effort to eliminate the giant completely
18:07fails and the guys aren't sure what to do next, so they just fight among each other as Billy Silverman
18:12has this look on his face as if to say, I have no idea what's going on or what day
18:16it is, please send help.
18:18Ring number 2 still looks a little busy but there's not a lot of action going on, I'd like to
18:22say
18:23everyone's strategising and waiting for the next 5 guys to get eliminated but I think that's given
18:27too much credit too. Rey Mysterio gets eliminated and that brings us down to 20. The remaining men get
18:33in the centre ring and immediately Saturn and the Kett get eliminated when they begin brawling and they
18:38fall out of the ring. Chavo Guerrero and Alex Wright are next to go out of the ring, a crying
18:42shame that is,
18:43and then Eddie and Disco get sent out before the giant press slams Kidman over the top rope.
18:48The crowd goes nuts when the giant and Kevin Nash begin fighting, we have Horseman, Wolfpack,
18:53Hollywood and WCW guys left in the ring, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash try to work together to
18:59eliminate the giant but the big man has a lot left in the tank. Lex Luger eliminates Stevie Ray,
19:05Big Scott Norton and Steve McMichael are the next men out and now we're down to 10. The counter
19:10randomly goes down to 9 even though no one gets eliminated and it's around this time when Bam
19:15Bam Bigelow makes an appearance. Bigelow made his Nitro debut this past Monday and he went after
19:19Goldberg. The beast from the east gets in the ring and everyone fights together to get Bam Bam out,
19:24security run down, Goldberg runs down, we get another wild brawl between Billy Boy and Bam Bam just like
19:30Nitro this past week and the bottle royal stops for a moment. When it starts back up we lose Scott
19:36Steiner
19:36and Wrath, Bam Bam Bigelow gets dragged out by security as Booker T gets eliminated, so we've
19:41got two members of the Horseman, three Wolfpack guys, the giant representing NW Hollywood and Scott
19:47Hall. K-Dog's the next man who gets eliminated, the guys then work together to get the giant out,
19:53the Wolfpack stand by as the Horseman go after Scott Hall, but eventually Nash and Lex eliminate
19:58Benoit while Hall takes care of Malenko. The final three then, two Wolfpack guys vs Scott Hall,
20:04Nash and Lex decide it's every man for themselves, so all three go at it with friendships getting
20:09thrown out the window for just a few moments. We think Lex is about to win it after hitting
20:13the outsiders with forearm shots, but when Lex tries to throw Scott out, Nash hits a big boot
20:19and both Lex and Scott fall out of the ring. Kevin Nash wins the World War 3 Battle Royal in
20:241998 and
20:25as it stands, it's gonna be Kevin Nash vs Goldberg at Starcade. A dominant performance from Big Sexy,
20:32and to show there's no hard feelings, Lex embraces his Wolfpack team mate. This would be the last
20:37ever World War match by the way, there's no Battle Royal in 1999.
20:48Bret Hart's been on a mission recently to put everyone on the injured list, he's been destroying
20:53guys on Nitro and living up to his Hitman nickname. One of those guys he injured was Diamond Dallas Page.
20:58The injury happened after DDP beat Bret for the US title, and tonight the Hitman wants to win it back.
21:04I know it goes against the grain and it goes against absolutely everything you've heard about Bret and
21:09WCW, but I've enjoyed his work over these past few months and this violent version of the Hitman
21:14has been a lot of fun to watch. He's taken out guys like Benoit, Lex, Nash, DDP, Conan and Sting,
21:21but now he has to face one of those men in the middle of the ring on pay per view.
21:25It starts with DDP taking Bret out while the Hitman was standing on the outside. Bret gets thrown into
21:30the guardrails, he gets thrown into the ring steps, when it gets back in the ring Bret gets floored
21:35after a few right hands and Dallas sends Bret out of the ring again. Hart wants to walk away from
21:40the
21:40match and Page stays on the challenger on the outside, but a next snap across the top rope gives Bret
21:45the break he's looking for. DDP takes a headbutt followed by a chokehold in the corner, Dallas then
21:50takes a DDT but he kicks out of two. He then counters a suplex with a small package but Bret
21:55gets up
21:56and the challenger goes right back on offence. We get some main event chinlock action next as the
22:01commentators talk about how hard it is to beat Bret in a typical one on one match, but Page has
22:06done it
22:06before and he's got every chance of doing it again. Dallas gets up and he hits a swinging neckbreaker before
22:11trying a diamond cutter but Hart gets out of the ring and DDP will have to try again. Another brawl
22:16on the outside sees Bret come out on top this time, in the ring Bret hits an inverted atomic drop
22:21followed by a clothesline, Hart then stands on the champs neck before delivering a rushing leg sweep
22:26and Bret then uncharacteristically goes for a tombstone but Dallas counters with a tombstone of his own.
22:32Bret ducks a clothesline and he's able to stun the champ before hitting a backbreaker and a leg drop,
22:37but Dallas replies with a discus clothesline followed by the pancake,
22:40it can't be ignored by the way, the crowd's been pretty silent for this one.
22:44Bret sends Page out of the ring and we can see Bret grabbing those brass nucks that don't look
22:48like brass nucks but we'll call them brass nucks anyway. Dallas hits Bret with a diving clothesline
22:53and the weapon falls out of Bret's hand, Charles Robinson picks it up as DDP applies a sharpshooter
22:58and uh… yeah, we've seen better sharpshooters, haven't we? Bret makes it to the ropes and Page decides
23:04to trash talk Bret in the corner, this leads to Bret hitting a low blow and the hitman's now going
23:09to work
23:09over the previously injured knee of DDP. Page gets his leg wrapped around the ring post before Bret
23:14delivers the figure 4 around the ring post, so Page is now in a bad way as the action gets
23:19back in the
23:20ring. Hart delivers a traditional figure 4 and Bret uses the ring ropes for leverage, he lets go of the
23:25move so he can do more damage to the knee in the corner. DDP does manage to kick Bret out
23:30of the ring,
23:31but he's definitely been weakened. On the outside, Bret takes another bump at the ring steps and DDP then pulls
23:37off the figure 4 around the ring post, Bret's getting a taste of his own medicine. Dallas then decides
23:43to bring a chair into the ring, he wants to get some real payback, but Charles Robinson tries to
23:47stop DDP and that totally backfires. Robinson gets wiped out, Bret gets his brass nucks back,
23:53Slick Johnson then comes out to officiate the match but Page takes care of him in no time at all.
23:58Bret levels Page with those brass nucks, Bret then applies to the sharpshooter and the referee calls for
24:04the bell. Mike Tenet says DDP didn't give up and Schiavone isn't even sure if this guy's a real
24:09referee. Bret gets handed the US Championship but Mickie J says no, this won't stand at all.
24:15In the middle of the argument, DDP wakes up and he hits Bret with a diamond cutter and that's how
24:19the match ends. DDP wins via pinfall and DDP retains the US Championship. Bret and DDP are two of
24:26my favourites without a doubt but I think both guys would admit that this main event wasn't the best in
24:31the world. It dragged in places and the crowd were almost silent as the main portion of the match
24:36played out. A shame too because you really want this one to be an all-timer and well,
24:42it's a bit underwhelming unfortunately. I hate to say it but it is.
24:50World War 3's another rough 1998 pay-per-view from WCW. Since around Road Wild, WCW's big shows
24:58haven't been great and it's frustrating to see too because they've got an absolutely stacked roster.
25:03This show, you just can't recommend it. It's hard to recommend a show with one great match,
25:08Hoovy vs Kidman, while every other match falls into the decent or below average category. WCW
25:14failing to deliver Hall vs Nash is pretty unforgivable and the Steiners confrontation was also
25:20not what fans wanted to see, so it's another bad month for WCW. Survivor Series 1998 completely
25:27destroys World War 3 and you gotta think about it as a paying customer. Imagine you skip Survivor Series
25:32in favour of this right here, you'd feel completely ripped off. Let's see if Starcade 98's any better
25:38though, we now know who's gonna face the champ in the main event, so maybe WCW can turn it around
25:45in
25:45in December? We'll see.
25:47Thanks for watching as always guys, and please take care.
26:16See you soon as well.
26:20Thanks for watching.
