The national capital witnessed mass demonstrations as the INDIA bloc, student outfits, and civil society groups demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the revision of electoral rolls. Protesters including members of the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Left parties, and Rashtriya Janata Dal attempted to gather at Jantar Mantar, where Section 163 was imposed. Delhi Police detained over 1,100 demonstrators, including senior Left leaders MA Baby and Brinda Karat, transporting them away in buses. The opposition accused the Election Commission of removing eligible voters from electoral rolls, while the central government defended the poll panel and dismissed the opposition agitation.

00:00Now, while that protest gets underway and we keep dipping into getting you the latest,
00:04let me give you a view of what happened a couple of hours earlier in the national capital.
00:09Even as protests in Mumbai continue, national capital witnessed a mass demonstration
00:15with the India bloc demanding the resignation of the chief election commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar.
00:20The All India Students Association, several civil society groups led the protest today
00:26and joined the workers of the Ahmadi Party, the Congress, the left, the RJD, all of them together,
00:32asking for one thing, the CEC must go.
00:36The police, however, stopped demonstrators from gathering at the Jantar Mantar, with several of them detained.
00:42We are told the number has gone up to over 1,100.
00:46Senior CPM leaders, including the General Secretary there, the former MP Brindakarat,
00:51among others who were taken into custody.
00:53The opposition has targeted the government and the election commission,
00:56while the government is hit back, defending the poll panel.
00:59But on your screens over there, the crowds were not allowed to enter.
01:04Anyone who was trying to get inside Jantar Mantar to stage a protest was picked up,
01:09taken into buses, detained and taken away.
01:13Here's how it happened.
01:30Two months after the CJP stir over exam paper leaks,
01:35the national capital once again is in the grip of protests.
01:42This time, over the special intensive revision of electoral rolls.
01:47The protesters are demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
01:55The All India Students Association and several civil society groups led the protests on Friday.
02:01Workers of the Army Party, Congress, left parties and RJD joined the demonstrations.
02:10However, unlike the previous CJP protests, the police this time stopped protesters from gathering at Jantar Mantar.
02:19Many protesters were detained.
02:23The leaders of the party and many workers of the party, they have been detained by the Delhi police.
02:31They have now been taken to a nearby police station.
