00:01Melbourne has copped an absolute drenching over the past 24 hours.
00:06Overnight there were around 7,000 homes across the state without power.
00:12Now that number has reduced, but this morning there is still around 1,600 homes across Victoria that are offline.
00:19Over the past 24 hours over at Melbourne Airport, the gauge there has recorded nearly 50 millimetres of rain.
00:26And in the city yesterday, in the span of just one hour, 20 millimetres of rain was recorded.
00:32Now that's more rain than Melbourne received in the entirety of September.
00:37Now this of course has led to flash flooding.
00:40The SES, where I'm at now, says it's responded to about 200 calls for help in the past 24 hours.
00:47And there are a number of flood warnings that remain in place, particularly in parts of regional Victoria,
00:52in particular parts of Gippsland, the north-east and the northern regions of Victoria,
00:58as well as parts of south-eastern New South Wales, all remain under flood watch.
01:03And Ethan, there is still more on the way.
01:07Yeah, the rain has just set in about half an hour ago here in Melbourne.
01:11It's as this slow-moving weather system continues to move across south-east Australia.
01:19It's come across from Adelaide.
01:21It's bringing showers to Melbourne today and tomorrow,
01:23where that total rainfall is expected to tip above 50 millimetres across the weekend.
01:29Up in Canberra, rain is expected today and tomorrow.
01:32And over in Sydney, showers are expected to rise today with heavier rain forecast for tomorrow.
01:38So for now, here in Melbourne at least, I'll be keeping this rain jacket and umbrella surely on, Mel.
01:45Yes, glad to see you are somewhat staying dry, Ethan White.
01:49Thanks very much.
