00:00This is sort of who they want to be.
00:02They want to be a team that does not extend themselves for Bregman or for Pete Alonzo.
00:08They want to remove Devers from the equation largely because of his contract,
00:12not because of any of the grief he was giving them.
00:15And so they end up with a team that's good enough to keep you engaged,
00:19good enough to give you a baseball season,
00:22good enough for all of us every year to line up and buy the expensive tickets
00:26and go to the ballpark and enjoy the team that you've rooted for your entire life.
00:31But at the end, they're just not going to do what it takes to build a team
00:36that is in the conversation and really competing for a championship
00:40because that's not a good business decision for John Henry.
00:45The better business decision is to be good enough to keep people engaged.
00:49And then after that, what does it really matter?
00:52And so they did it again, and they're probably going to continue to do it.
00:56The Red Sox, from a financial perspective, are in better shape,
00:59and John Henry's wallet is fatter because he is not as invested in the roster of this team
01:04as he once was.
01:06And you just have to admit that.
01:08You have to bring yourself to admit that and think,
01:11well, if they're not going to spend, they've got to be really smart
01:14and really great in their evaluations
01:16and really find all these diamonds in the rough
01:19and have an excellent farm system.
01:22I think it's sad because you realize none of those things are going to happen.
01:26With the guys they've got running it.
01:27And their big three has become a full-blown disaster.
01:30Well, there's no three.
