New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing renewed attention after dining at Ayat Hinds Hall, a Palestinian restaurant on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, shortly after being booed at a vigil commemorating the October 7 attacks.

The restaurant chain previously faced controversy in 2023 over a menu section titled “From the River to the Sea,” a phrase that critics, including pro-Israel groups, have described as antisemitic. The menu also features messages opposing occupation and a map labeling the region as Palestine.

Restaurant owner Abdul Elenani rejected accusations of antisemitism, saying he supports a two-state solution and condemns violence against both sides. He also organized a free Shabbat dinner in 2024.

Mamdani’s dinner came after demonstrators criticized him outside the October 7 memorial vigil, shouting accusations related to his position on the Gaza conflict.

Speaking Thursday, Mamdani defended his previous comments about Gaza while emphasizing that every life deserves to be mourned, including Israeli victims and Palestinians killed during the war.
