Welcome to Part 6 of my 16-part cross-country flight series! In this leg, we continue our journey from Gulfport, Mississippi (KGPT) to Lakeland, Florida (KLAL) in the Diamond DA-50RG.

This segment takes us from the PENSI intersection to the CEW (Crestview) VOR, cruising along the Florida panhandle. I'll walk you through the navigation, show you the cockpit view, and share what it's like flying this route in the DA-50RG.

Whether you're a student pilot, an aviation enthusiast, or a flight simmer, this series takes you along for the entire journey. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe to follow the rest of the adventure!

00:02I'm not sure, it's one of the many rivers in the area, but we are just, we are crossing
00:09all, coming up on Pennsley intersection, alright, so that's that behavior that I kind of used
00:16to, it goes to the left, and then it goes to the right.
00:33And so this is where we are now, we just crossed over to Pennsley, Pennsley intersection, now
00:44Pennsley, we're, I mentioned about the neighbor down station Pensacola earlier, and that's
01:00home of the Blue Angels, and it's a large Navy base, and I don't think we can see it, it's
01:13going to be off on our, where are we, I can't see it here, sometimes we can zoom in on
01:26flight
01:26sounds.
01:37So this Whiting Field, this is where it's at, and based on our position here, it should
01:44be at about our, one o'clock, so let's see if we can see that bad boy.
01:53So I'm going to pan to the right, and I'm going to zoom in.
02:01Hey, I think we see it, look, yep, pretty sure that's it, yep, one of those, that's those
02:14two, remember we saw those two together?
02:16There's two separate bases, one there, one there, two separate airfields.
02:24I'm going to zoom out and get a perspective.
02:32So the one that we want to see, let me see, that's the one that's on the left, so the
02:42one
02:42that we zoomed in on, that was it, that was, that's the neighbor down station Pensacola.
02:54You see how you have one there, and you have one here, this is the one that Blue Angels
02:58are at.
03:38That was, uh, quite a view.
03:56And, as you can see, we have our clouds all around us, and, um, we've got something
04:05coming ahead, it looks like it may be our altitude.
04:32Yeah, we have some clouds ahead, kind of keeping an eye on them, let me see what it looks like
04:37on the chart.
04:38All right, so this is the base, a little closer, we're treating a little bit.
04:44Um, we're at 3,500 feet.
04:56Uh, below 35, nothing says you can't go below 35.
04:59If, uh.
05:01If, uh.
05:01If, uh.
05:02If, uh.
05:27If, uh.
05:43If, uh.
05:47If, uh.
05:48If, uh.
05:53If, uh.
05:56If, uh.
05:58You can start out on flight sim, you can check all these things out.
06:01Way back in the day, it was, uh, it was impossible to do, uh, what we're doing now.
06:08Um, you know, um, there was no, doing VFR, doing, uh, VFR on the flight sim was, uh, unheard
06:19of.
06:19Uh, and the airlines, they had like a black and white screen.
06:24I had the opportunity to fly, uh, took advantage of an opportunity in the Navy to fly a Navy P
06:30-3
06:30simulator.
06:32And, um, that was, you know, right up there with the airline, full motion, full scale simulator.
06:40But it's, um, it's come a long ways.
06:46This, what you're seeing here, actually rivals what, what they had.
06:50Uh, it's just a matter of, uh, like the gear, the real sim gear.
06:54They've done a good job replicating the, uh, equipment.
06:57On that flight sim I was telling you about, they actually, um, use real aircraft parts.
07:06And, um, and they made them work in the flight sim.
07:09A lot of those instruments can.
07:10Pressure instruments.
07:12It's just a matter of hooking it up to a, um, uh, system.
07:18Like, I guess you could use a, uh, a Duino or a Raspberry.
07:22And, um, it calculates the thing, the airspeed indicator or altimeter.
07:27Um, you put in, uh, altimeter setting.
07:31And it's gonna, you know, if you, if it plugs in, if you know, if it can go online or
07:37whatever,
07:37you get the correct information, atmospheric information.
07:41And, uh, it knows how much air to blow in, how much pressure to blow in to those instruments
07:47to get them to read accurately.
07:56That's some pretty interesting things.
07:58I've done some research on it, but it was beyond my skill.
08:02Beyond my, uh, the scope of my knowledge for that time.
08:26We should be, uh, coming up on two.
08:31True.
08:33Yeah, not yet.
08:36We must have a headwind.
08:39Let's see what we got here.
08:42So we're moving pretty fast.
08:44Uh, actually, we don't have a, we don't appear to have a headwind.
08:49True airspeed is, uh, indicated it's 142.
08:59And there I go again, talking and not showing you what I'm talking about.
09:03Oh, this is interesting.
09:12That's that mean looking cloud I was wondering about earlier.
09:40So we seem to be good at 3000, so we'll keep it here.
09:49Got lots of greenery there after, uh, after being, uh, over the deserts for the, uh, large portion
09:57of the trip.
09:58Uh, all the way through, uh, Texas.
10:01And we hit, um, Louisiana.
10:03And it started changing.
10:04I started coming out of Texas, uh, towards Louisiana.
10:07It started changing up.
10:17Yeah, the farmland is still pretty.
10:19Uh, but it, it doesn't contrast, it doesn't contrast like the, uh, like it does on the desert floor.
10:29heruming is, uh, .
10:58Yeah, the farmland has so much is left inside.
11:13Oh, what did I forget to do, that fuel, okay, so I got that fuel imbalance thing I'll tell
11:26you about, I need my, you know, I literally need a timer for this here, so let me see, I'm
11:32going to turn it off, but I'm looking here, it does give you an indicator that the fuel
11:39transfer is on, now I'm turning it off, but let's see the damage that I've done, at least
11:45it's taken up from the right tank now, so the left, the left tank, is where the, that's
11:50the one that was drawn, the engine was drawn fuel from, and so I switched tanks, I mean,
11:59no, I didn't switch tanks, I wish you could.
