00:00I'm a mom of two and I live in a tiny home and these are things that I hate in

00:04my tiny home.

00:05First thing is, we never thought about where to put a trash can.

00:08So, um, yeah, that's horrible.

00:14The next thing that I hate is how small our sink is and that we don't have a dishwasher.

00:19Okay.

00:20The next thing that I hate is having to do laundry at family members' houses because we don't have a

00:25washer and dryer.

00:26So, if I were to build a tiny home again, I would definitely make a spot for a washer and

00:31dryer, even if that's outside.

00:32I don't care.

00:36I know a lot of people are probably curious on our tiny home and we actually just posted a YouTube

00:39video of, like, a whole tiny home tour, if you want to go check that out.

00:43At the end of the day, like, me and my husband literally built this with our two hands and I

00:47love our tiny home.

00:48We brought both our kids home.

00:50This is, like, our home and we made it a home and I really, really love it.

00:53But, of course, there's just little things that just, like, I didn't really think of.

00:57I'm not going to have to worry about that for too long because we're actually building a house and it's,

01:01like, an actual house, like, a real house, like, a big one.

01:08If this is the first time you're seeing my face, my name is Misty and I transitioned from a traditional

01:13home to a tiny home this year.

01:16And I'm going to talk about one reason that I feel like I made a major mistake.

01:22And while I'm going to talk about this, I'm going to sit here and have my cold brew coffee out

01:26on my front porch on a summer afternoon, enjoying this nice Texas weather.

01:32Now, back to the reason why I think I made a major mistake.

01:36And it's probably not what you're thinking.

01:38The one thing that I feel like I failed in is not doing this sooner.

01:47I mean, seriously, not doing this sooner, not downsizing and getting rid of all of the needless things and stuff

01:55in my life.

01:56And, you know, creating a smaller space for me to thrive.

01:59I really feel like I'm thriving in this.

02:01And there is not a day that has gone by in the almost two months that I have moved in

02:07that I feel like I made a mistake.

02:11So, if this is even on your radar, if you have ever thought about downsizing to a tiny home, if

02:18you don't know where to start, if you're in the process of it, whatever it is, I'm just here to

02:22encourage you that, you know, I had a little bit of apprehension when I signed the closing papers on my

02:28home that I had built for me because I loved it.

02:31And I thought, Misty, what are you doing?

02:33But since the moment I walked through the doors of this house, I have felt nothing but complete and utter

02:40contentment.

02:43I mean, when I tell you it is so nice to be able to have a place where I have

02:48everything that I need in close proximity and not have to worry about, you know, cleaning a big area or

02:54having a whole lot of upkeep on the outside.

02:58It's just, it's so relaxing.

03:00It's so relaxing.

03:01And I'm not even saying that this is something that you can only do if you're single.

03:05I think this would be perfect for a couple as well, especially if you're nearing retiring age or if you

03:10have a desire to travel, whatever.

03:12I mean, I could go on and on, but that is the one mistake and regret that I have is

03:16that I didn't do it sooner.

03:18So, cheers.

03:21So, there you saw two competing, you know, outlooks on the tiny home phenomenon.

03:29Phenomenon.

03:30And I think it's quite interesting, right?

03:33I think there is a little bit of a lane.

03:36And it's mainly for, I think, single people who are by themselves, possibly even a little bit older.

03:42So, then there's a little bit less upkeep and you don't really need a whole lot of space when you're

03:48by yourself, when you're alone.

03:49But as far as, like, for young folks who are looking to have families and, you know, company and spouses

03:56and all of this other stuff, it's a horrible idea.

04:00But, unfortunately, I think a lot of young folks are not only unable to buy homes because they've just exploded

04:08in price thanks to none other than Joe Biden allowing a bunch of illegals to come in.

04:14Which, I saw someone say that, well, illegals had nothing to do with the prices going up.

04:19Yeah, they weren't the only reason the prices went up, but most certainly letting in millions upon millions of people,

04:26which I've heard the number is well above 30 million.

04:29But when you let that many people into the country, I mean, it's just common sense.

04:34When you have more people competing for homes, those prices go up, right?

04:40It's simple, right?

04:42Supply and demand.

04:44When the supply is low, but the demand is high because there's more people wanting those homes, well, the price

04:49is going to shoot through the roof.

04:51And that's what we have seen.

04:53But, also, I think a lot of young folks have been influenced by this, you know, this leftist push to

05:01go green, right?

05:02Go green, tiny homes, and, you know, save the planet and all of this other stuff.

05:07And I think it's completely silly.

05:08Like, if you think you can affect the planet, I think you're fooling yourself.

05:14Especially if you want to consider, right, the fact that is India doing anything to save the planet?

05:19Is China really doing anything to save the planet?

05:21I think they could actually, I think they couldn't care any less.

05:24So, us doing a bunch of stuff, I think, is completely useless.

05:28But let's jump back in.

05:32Reasons why tiny homes are terrible investments.

05:34Here are four reasons why tiny homes are terrible investments.

05:38With housing costs at an all-time high and the Fed signaling rates will likely not be coming down anytime

05:42soon,

05:43many people have started looking at tiny homes as an option.

05:46But here's why that could be an unwise choice.

05:49Number one, depreciation.

05:50While standard homes appreciate at 3-5% a year, you could expect a tiny home to depreciate similar to

05:56that of an RV.

05:57After just three years, expect to lose 30% of the original value.

06:01And after 10 years, you'll be down 62%.

06:04Number two, expensive to build.

06:06A tiny home on average costs $300-$400 per square foot to build,

06:09while a traditional home is closer to $150-$200.

06:12You might say it's because you're cramming a lot into a small space.

06:15And I would argue back saying, do you want to live crammed?

06:18Number three, utilities.

06:19Tiny homes are typically set up to operate off-grid, which can have many drawbacks.

06:23When compared to a traditional home, they are one, unreliable, two, more expensive, and three, a hassle to set up.

06:29Emptying black and gray water tanks is always going to be gross.

06:34Number four, zoning and legal issues.

06:36This is probably my biggest concern with tiny homes.

06:38It could be extremely difficult to find somewhere to place it.

06:41With most governments classifying them as RVs, zoning is going to be a real headache.

06:45I understand the advantages of a tiny home, but owning one could put you further away from owning a traditional

06:51home,

06:51which historically speaking is one of the best investments you can make.

06:59I live in a tiny home, and here are five reasons why I hate it.

07:01Number one, since it's only 399 square feet, I hear every single noise that goes on outside.

07:07So if a tiny tree branch falls, I hear it, and it sounds like it's in the house.

07:10Number two is the water heater.

07:12My shower literally only gets hot for like five minutes.

07:16After that, it's cold because it only fits such a small water heater.

07:20I haven't looked into it to see if I can make the water heater bigger,

07:22but I need to do that ASAP because it's horrible.

07:25Number three is the AC.

07:26So I have two mini splits, one in the downstairs bedroom,

07:30and then one in the living room area right by the staircase.

07:33And I am a hot sleeper, so I would have wished that I would have gotten

07:36that other mini split inside of the loft area where I'm sleeping

07:40because I have to have a fan directly on me.

07:42Number four is it took me forever to figure out how I could get Wi-Fi inside of my house

07:47because I was using my parents' Wi-Fi.

07:49And since the top of the roof is metal, it was very hard to share the Wi-Fi

07:55even though I'm so close to my parents.

07:56So I had to buy a specific thing and figure it out.

08:00But for a long time, it would cut in and out,

08:02and I would never have any Wi-Fi or service.

08:04Now, honestly, guys, that's it.

08:05I can't think of anything else that I hate about my tiny house.

08:08I just love it so much.

08:10I'm going to rip all my family out.

08:11Okay, so for context, here's the cliff notes.

08:14If you've ever wanted to tiny live,

08:15take it from someone who learned the hard way

08:17and who did it for technically two years,

08:20but it was less than that that we lived in it.

08:22It is horrible.

08:24The amount of social media that I see glamorizing tiny living,

08:28I'm sure that that works for some people.

08:30I now know that there's a right and a wrong way to do it.

08:33Um, but honestly, no one talks enough about how horrible it can be to tiny live.

08:40I'm currently about to pull my hair out

08:41because we got an RV to tiny live in temporarily to move across country

08:46knowing we were going to sell it down the line

08:49to put towards a house, which is what we're doing right now.

08:52It depreciated over 80% in two years.

08:58I want to pull all my hair out.

08:59I'm going to...

09:01I'll have to do a fucking full story time,

09:03probably on my YouTube channel, like a full series,

09:05because they managed that I've had to learn the fucking hard way.

09:08Y'all need to know,

09:08because it's not talked about enough here on social media.

09:11Between we got kicked out initially of our fucking home state

09:14because of zoning laws that we had no idea about,

09:17to just in general how difficult it is to live in one

09:20that's not talked about enough,

09:21to right now, the whole fucking 80% depreciation,

09:26not to mention we have property taxes that no one told us about

09:31simply because we registered it the first year to travel

09:34and then it was parked on land in the meantime.

09:37If you don't register it,

09:38in some states you pay property taxes.

09:41The greed in this country is disgusting.

09:44Again, I'll do a fucking story time soon

09:46when I don't want to pull all my hair out,

09:48so stay tuned for that.

09:49I'm about to expose the entire tiny home market

09:53when it comes to doing that in a tiny RV or camper.

10:03Yeah, I mean, I think it goes to show that,

10:05you know, before you embark on some of these things

10:08that aren't, you know, mainstream,

10:11I mean, I guess mainstream things,

10:12too, but you need to do your research.

10:15You have to do your research.

10:18You can't make assumptions.

10:19You can't just take someone else's word for it

10:22that you saw online.

10:24You've got to do your own research.

10:25You've got to make the phone calls, right?

10:28Because otherwise, you're going to be up

10:30Poops Creek without a paddle in sight,

10:32and that's not going to be a great position.

10:36I didn't even know tiny homes depreciated like that.

10:39That's pretty wild, too.

10:41Jeez, and she said hers depreciated 80%.

10:46Whoa, whoa.

10:48Talk about a terrible investment, right?

10:51Because not only are tiny homes typically not a big enough size

10:56to raise a family in,

10:58but as you heard there,

11:00they depreciate like crazy.

11:02Sounds like a car.

11:05It sounds like that's the way they're treated,

11:07you know, like vehicles.

11:09I guess the other guy did mention RVs,

11:12which is just mind-blowing, right?

11:16So, yeah, the only people that I see tiny homes

11:19actually being useful for

11:21is, you know, empty nesters.

11:24You know, older individuals

11:25who don't have any children anymore,

11:27who are living on their own,

11:31who don't want, you know,

11:32a bunch of maintenance

11:33and all of that sort of thing.

11:35Yeah, maybe a tiny home would work for them.

11:37They don't really care about depreciation

11:39or anything like that.

11:40They're not going to sell it.

11:42They plan on living out the rest of their life there.

11:45And as they get older,

11:47obviously, you know,

11:49general maintenance becomes a lot more difficult

11:51as you get older in age.

11:52So, you know, you save some there.

11:55You don't mind the depreciation.

11:57It's small, so it's manageable.

11:59And you don't have anybody else living with you,

12:01so it's easy.

12:02It's still comfortable for you.

12:04That's really the only person

12:06that I see that being good for, you know?

12:11Even like a young person who's living on their own,

12:13you don't want that depreciation.

12:14You don't want,

12:15I mean, we spend enough money as it is.

12:17You don't want your money

12:18to just simply be going down the drain,

12:20you know, necessarily.

12:22So, yeah.

12:24Pretty wild, man.

12:25Pretty wild.

12:26But, hey, gotta save the planet.

12:28Gotta save the planet, of course.

12:32As the leftists would say.

12:33But, yeah, man, y'all get in the comments.

12:58who seemed to be living on her own.

13:00So, that's the demographic

13:01that I think this is more geared towards.

13:04But, yeah,
