00:02President Trump's massive arch near Arlington National Cemetery is one step closer to reality
00:07this morning. A federal preservation agency is ending its review with local officials over the
00:12project's impact on nearby historic sites. And there's been plenty of pushback. The administration
00:19itself, through the National Park Service, says the 250-foot arch would have adverse effects on
00:25the area. Virginia officials say it would mar the landscape around Arlington National Cemetery.
00:30They wanted the administration to consider changes, including shrinking or moving it.
00:35And now the Federal Preservation Council, led by a Trump appointee, is pulling the plug on that
00:40process. In this letter, it says, we are hereby terminating consultation. That means the administration
00:47can move forward without reaching an agreement with Virginia and D.C. officials. The council will send
00:52its final comments to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum by October 7th. He'll then decide whether to move
00:59forward. And remember, Trump recently added a new purpose for this thing. He says the arch will also
01:05serve as a military complex.
