01:02which would see Van Hoopen go through.
01:03Joshua Dirksen would find himself into the wall,
01:06and after a safety car restart,
01:08there would be all sorts of antics down at the first corner.
01:11Out front, though, no such for Dino Biganovic,
01:14who would go to take a second consecutive win in Formula 2
01:19and a second consecutive in a sprint race here at Baku.
01:23Laurence Van Hoopen finished in second,
01:25and Alex Dunn, an impressive drive coming up from P10 to P3.
01:29Well, this the first of two feature races
01:32and an extended timetable for Formula 2 here at round 12.
01:37Plenty of points up for grabs.
01:4025 for the winner in this feature race.
01:43Two DRS zones as well.
01:45We saw the one down to turn one being very powerful in the sprint race,
01:50and then they have one down towards turn three as well.
01:55And here's a look at the grid for you.
01:57The drivers lining up,
01:59but we are going to be missing one driver from this race
02:04after Sebastian Montoya found himself into the barriers
02:09on a reconnaissance lap.
02:12So let's first check in, Alex Brundle,
02:15and exactly what happened there,
02:17because we've now gone from 22 drivers to 21 for this one.
02:22So this on the laps to the grid then,
02:25Sebastian Montoya is going to come across a little bit.
02:29There he is in the red, white and green Prima.
02:32And that, as they say, is that.
02:35Looks like he's coming out of, is it turn three there?
02:40And he's making his way through there.
02:42And he's lost the engine and unable to restart the car.
02:45No, it's through the exit of turn two, Sebastian Montoya.
02:48And unfortunately cannot make it round to the grid under his own power
02:51and cannot take further part in the feature race.
02:54Well, absolute disaster for him, Sebastian Montoya,
02:58who had qualified up in the top ten as well
03:00in what is being a great weekend for Prima Racing so far
03:04in terms of pace.
03:06Leading us away from pole position for the first time this season
03:09will be Alex Dunn,
03:11looking to take his first win of the season as well.
03:14He's now 33 points back from Nikola Solov,
03:17so has a great chance to make big inroads
03:20on the Red Bull Junior, who starts down in P10.
03:23Yeah, great opportunity.
03:24Alex Dunn sits with 148 points.
03:27Let's have a look at how they start.
03:28This first feature race of two this weekend, Chris.
03:32Yep, this is the grid set from qualifying session one.
03:35Kian Shields and Colton Hurta going off the back row.
03:38Colton Hurta finishing P9 in the sprint race earlier.
03:41Then it's Emerson Fittipaldi and Joshua Dirksen,
03:43who has a three-place penalty as he was unable to serve
03:46a five-second penalty in the earlier sprint race.
03:49Then it's Gertha and Yamakoshi
03:51on his debut weekend next along.
03:54Rafael Villegomez is going to go from row eight.
03:57John Bennett next to him in P15.
04:00Gabriele Mini, still third in the championship,
04:03will be looking to make some progress up the field in this one
04:05and get into the top ten and into the points.
04:09Roman Belinsky is next,
04:10and it's to Sanapol, Intrapuva Zak,
04:11and Rotoma Miata just outside the top ten.
04:15Nikola Solov starts inside the points.
04:18We'll need to be getting bigger scores, though.
04:20Lorenz Van Hoopen is next to him.
04:22On the podium earlier on the top step
04:24was Dino Beganovic, now on his own on row four.
04:28Mari Boyer didn't get past lap one earlier
04:31after he came together with Rafa Kamra,
04:33who picked up a penalty for that.
04:35But Cushmine is going to be on row two
04:38with Noel Leon next to him,
04:40who has a great chance to get big points.
04:43Martinius Stenchorn and Alex Dunn,
04:45the Rodin Motorsport teammates,
04:46locking out the first row,
04:48getting a first one-two in qualifying
04:49for the Rodin team since Sochi in 2020.
04:53They took a one-two finish at Canada earlier this year
04:56in the feature race with Stenchorn leading home done.
05:00Can Alex Dunn now get his first win of this season?
05:02Our Rodin looking really strong this weekend
05:04as are dammed in the shape of Dino Beganovic,
05:07who took a fantastic win in the sprint race earlier on.
05:11Scenario in the points.
05:12The headline is 11-point difference
05:15between Rafa Kamra and Niklas Solov
05:17at the front of the championship.
05:20That's where they stand.
05:21Gavrieli Mini is next up on 153 points,
05:25181, 170 apiece for Solov and Kamra.
05:29Alex Dunn, still an outside shot of it,
05:32especially with the pace that he's shown this weekend.
05:34And a pole position to his name
05:37as we home in on the first of two feature races.
05:39Of course, full F1 points are paid,
05:43meaning for race finishing positions alone,
05:46there are 50 points left on the table here in Baki.
05:49There certainly is.
05:51Alex Dunn has a really great opportunity
05:53to close in on Niklas Solov
05:56for the overall championship lead.
05:59He took that pole position yesterday in qualifying one.
06:02Let's hear what he had to say after the session.
06:33For me, a first win of the year would be really nice,
06:34good pace within the road and motorsport team.
06:36So far this weekend, as demonstrated in qualifying,
06:39locking out the front row for both feature races,
06:42it should be said.
06:43Great speed and race craft being demonstrated,
06:46definitely by Alex Dunn.
06:48Screamed through from 10th position to 6th on the road.
06:50In the first lap, I caught up with the top three earlier on
06:53as they were taking their photographs
06:54and picking up some of their accolades.
06:58And they said it is so difficult with the brakes here in Baki
07:01to get it absolutely right.
07:03That is the real challenge as they head down towards turn one.
07:07Another challenge for them in this feature race, Chris,
07:11is the mandatory pit stop, which is available after lap six.
07:14So we're on full feature race rules here.
07:17Mandatory pit stop must change from one compound to the other.
07:20Can do so at the end of lap six.
07:22Full points paying.
07:22We've got two of those this weekend
07:24in a different setup in Baku for Formula 2.
07:28But that doesn't change the process.
07:30It's everything you normally see on a Sunday,
07:31on a Saturday afternoon.
07:33And just like in the feature race last year,
07:35three drivers are going for the soft tyre to start.
07:38Gertha, Hertha and Shields on this occasion.
07:41Last year, we saw a race in the pit lane,
07:45essentially after an incident involving Pepe Marti on lap five.
07:50And that saw everyone piling in to the pit lane.
07:53Gabriele Mini won that race.
07:55So the teams will be aware of what's going on there
07:58and we'll be looking at their strategy.
08:00Or even everything you see, normally see on a Friday,
08:03on a Saturday, on a Friday afternoon,
08:06given the fact that we're racing on Saturday this week.
08:08In any case, it's a discombobulating weekend for Formula 2.
08:13But one thing we do know is Alex Dunn has looked incredibly quick,
08:16as has Martini Stenshawn.
08:17Could this be a teammate battle between the two of them?
08:22And as we saw earlier from Nikola Solov,
08:24Alex Dunn lined up, tapered towards the inside.
08:2829 laps.
08:29There's going to be an element of tyre management,
08:31which we saw a little bit earlier as well, Alex.
08:35Definitely so.
08:36It's all about management of the temperature of that rear tyre.
08:39That's what's been challenging the drivers throughout the race.
08:42It's warmer than it was earlier on.
08:4445 degrees on track.
08:46Air temp is 25 and five lights will send us on our way.
08:50Big points available.
08:52This feature race won 29 laps coming up.
08:55And all road in front row to the right of screen
08:57is Martini Stenshawn to the left.
09:00Your pole sitter, Alex Dunn.
09:01And we'll go for the first of two feature races.
09:04And a good start from Alex Dunn gets over and defends his lead.
09:08And a very good start in the white campos for Noel Leon,
09:10who's gone round the outside of Stenshawn.
09:13But Stenshawn will fight back to hold on to that second place
09:16in towards turn two.
09:17It's also been a good start for Rafa Kammerer as well,
09:21who has come up to fourth place.
09:23But so far, so good for Alex Dunn.
09:25Noel Leon got away really nicely.
09:27And Mani now under pressure from Mary Boyer
09:29as they make their way down towards turn three.
09:33Alex Dunn has got away beautifully there.
09:35We've got a yellow flag out.
09:36No obvious car stopped in the background.
09:38But is there somebody still left out there on the line?
09:42We've got Yamakoshi denoted in the pit lane there.
09:46So we'll see if someone, if he hasn't got away.
09:49Yes, certainly someone got away very slowly.
09:52The yellow lights were going off, weren't they,
09:54on the start-finish line as we went green
09:57at the start of this first feature race.
09:59It's Dunn leading his teammate Stenshawn,
10:02then Leon next along.
10:03This is looking at the battle between Miata and Intrapu Vizak.
10:08The pit lane will open six laps into the race,
10:11as usually is in a feature race.
10:13Yamakoshi in the pit lane.
10:15Yeah, Yamakoshi making his way out into the race.
10:17So we've got Shields Hertha and Goethe on the soft tyre.
10:21That's the harder of the two.
10:23Everybody else is on the super soft tyre,
10:25the option tyre for this weekend, the softer one.
10:28And that should wear out relatively quickly
10:31through the city streets.
10:32We often see here in Baku,
10:34drivers charge for the pit lane at the earliest opportunity.
10:37We also see great slip-streaming battles
10:39down the front straight.
10:40It'll be one lap till the DRS is available.
10:43Down towards 16.
10:44This is going to be one of the DRS zones here.
10:47And also down towards turn three as well.
10:50There could be some big swings in the championship in this one.
10:53Alex Dunn in a very good opportunity
10:55to make big inroads on the championship leaders.
10:58And that's what he got.
10:59He's got his eyes on in this race.
11:01Stenchorn behind him.
11:03Then it's Leon in third place.
11:05Puffs of smoke coming out the back of Leon there.
11:07Yeah, now a DRS available this time.
11:09Camera with a watching brief.
11:10It's Boyer being looked at by Maini down towards turn one,
11:14but nothing available for him there.
11:17A little bit of a gap in the field here, look,
11:19as cameras manage to eke away.
11:21Yeah, Boyer, as you can see,
11:23then next Cushmine in P6.
11:24Then it's Viganovic, Solov,
11:26who has gained a place at the start of this race.
11:29Van Hooper 9th, Miata in 10th place.
11:32They make the long run down towards turn three.
11:35Now it's still your two roadings, one and two.
11:37One to watch is going to be Gabriele Mini.
11:39There he is, the number nine.
11:41We kept an eye on him earlier
11:42because he is in this championship fight
11:45and will want to make inroads.
11:47If they were to start as they lined up,
11:50he'd still only beat 29 points back
11:52in the championship fight.
11:54So Goethe, you just saw him in the orange MP car.
11:57He's the leading driver on the alternative strategy.
12:00He's line of stern with Hertha, 16th and 17th.
12:03We have seen that work out really nicely in other races.
12:07If you get a safety car,
12:09if you get an option for a cheaper pit stop
12:11later on in the race,
12:12it gives you a lot of options.
12:13But the fastest way is definitely softest tyre first.
12:16And that's because of this phase
12:18where you can leap away on the super soft.
12:20Yeah, and Dunn has almost broken the DRS
12:23to his teammate already.
12:25Stenshawn there.
12:26So Stenshawn might be having to look in his mirrors
12:28at Noel Leon,
12:28but he's threatening to do the same as well.
12:31We're seeing a bit of a split out front
12:33within the top 10 already here, Alex.
12:35Yeah, Leon visually looks a little closer.
12:37He's well within DRS range there.
12:39So it looked like he had a good middle sector
12:40that time around.
12:42And Stenshawn just there dropping outside.
12:45Was that before or after the detection point?
12:48Well, we'll find out relatively soon.
12:50He looks to have dropped away from Alex Dunn.
12:52Will Noel Leon be able to put the pressure on
12:54with DRS enabled?
12:55Let's see what the difference is
12:56as they head now down towards the first corner.
13:00DRS open for Noel Leon
13:02and he'll be closing in.
13:03He hasn't got to worry about in his mirrors.
13:05A rapid camera a couple of seconds back.
13:08He's got Marie Boyer around a second back from him.
13:10And then this is where the DRS train
13:12has formed at the start of this race.
13:15Gushmine leading it along.
13:17We've got Intrapuva's out there fighting
13:19with Roman Belinsky just outside the points.
13:23Championship-wise,
13:24Camera fourth position.
13:25Solov in eighth.
13:26It will be a swing back towards Camera
13:28after we saw Solov take more points
13:30in the sprint race earlier on.
13:32This is nice positioning for the Ferrari junior.
13:35It certainly is.
13:36You get 12 points for finishing in fourth place.
13:39Four points for finishing in eighth place as well.
13:43There is an additional fastest lap point.
13:44Let's have a look back at the start.
13:46So we're looking at it from the rear angle then.
13:49And you can see the drivers who got away.
13:50Joshua Dirksen had to make a move past Yamakoshi
13:53who didn't get away as we surmised in the early laps.
13:56And then it was Noel Leon who got a really nice launch
14:00and then managed to make it work
14:02through the second phase of the start.
14:04Indeed, in the early phases of the race,
14:08then Stenzel managed to make his way back past Leon
14:10by taking the inside line down towards turn two.
14:14Big shovel across the road from Camera on Miney
14:17but manages to take the place.
14:19Then it's Mary Boyer who's able to go around
14:21the outside of the Pink Alpine in turn two.
14:23This is the view back from Alex Dunn.
14:26So it was very close, wasn't it, here
14:28between Stenzel and Leon.
14:30That's what a good start looks like
14:31and sounds like for Alex Dunn.
14:33Leon tries to make it all the way around
14:35but has to check up to make sure
14:37he doesn't end up in that outside wall.
14:39Stenzel able to cling on to the place
14:41through the apex of turn two
14:43and there's no way around the outside
14:45of the 90 left-hander.
14:47Lap three of 29
14:49and it's 1.2 seconds between the top two
14:53has Leon been able to stay within a second
14:56maybe just about
14:57on Stenzel, Camera in fourth place
15:01and then we have Boyer in fifth,
15:03Miney in P6,
15:04Beganovic, Solov, Vanhoopen, Miata.
15:07Lap six is when we'll start to see
15:09the pit lane open
15:10and there's our winner from earlier,
15:12Dino Beganovic going into P6
15:14past Kushmine.
15:15Yeah, nice move from Beganovic.
15:17One to watch, had tremendous pace
15:18earlier on
15:20but is already outside the DRS range of Boyer
15:22so we'll have to do that
15:23all on pace
15:25and no early safety car in this one
15:28which some of the teams
15:29will have been expecting
15:30so we're actually screaming towards
15:33the point at which
15:34these drivers can stop
15:35and relinquish the super soft tyre
15:37if they choose.
15:38Yeah, we'll see if anyone
15:39chooses to come in
15:41early doors.
15:42it was a safety car
15:44that saw everyone come in
15:45on the same lap.
15:46You can pit whilst that is out
15:49but not while the virtual safety car is out.
15:51This is your battle for
15:52eighth place between Solov and Vanhoopen.
15:55Looking back over the rear wing
15:57of Solov
15:58just sitting inside the points
16:00at the moment
16:01knows there's a long way to go
16:02in this one.
16:03It would be a decent point swing
16:04in favour of Dunn
16:06as well
16:07over both Camera
16:08and Solov
16:09he would need something like this
16:12or even a little bit more
16:14to move himself
16:14into Championship contention
16:16a decent number of points back
16:18just over 30
16:18but with another strong
16:21starting position tomorrow
16:22this is definitely not looking
16:24too unhealthy is it
16:26for Alex Dunn's
16:27Championship Challenge
16:28definitely up into the podium positions
16:30even if not into the total
16:32lead of the series.

16:34going off their grid positions
16:36there would only be nine points
16:37between Dunn and Solov
