Members of the Bureau of Corrections secure gates of the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City on September 25, 2026, after President Bongbong Marcos has signed Mary Jane Veloso’s absolute pardon. Veloso, a victim of human trafficking, was detained for over 14 years in Indonesia, where she was initially placed on death row, but was spared through then-President Benigno Aquino III’s request to then-Indonesian President Joko Widodo. Veloso will be released to family and relatives upon their arrival at the Corrections facility around midnight tonight.
