00:31the two and a half hour rain delay in tuscaloosa but um you know those those college atmospheres
00:37are wild man it's a lot of fun it was good game uh unfortunately you know atlanta was just uh

00:43know they're just not a very competitive team with the quarterback situation so but that's that's the
00:48league joe you get bad quarterback play you get bad games and we're seeing that around the league right
00:53now yeah boy and if you got one of those special guys uh like the two guys we always talk

00:58and the start they're off to but we'll talk before we get into everything florida state miami game's

01:09would joe the uh the offense really came alive they had a lot of big plays um you know keep

01:16very competitive into deep into the third quarter and then alabama's the rookie quarterback keelan
01:21russell the talent that they have across the board i mean the talent just took over they got two
01:26freshman running backs that might start for just about any team in the country so the talent just
01:31took over in the fourth quarter for alabama but i i give florida state credit man they they uh they
01:37were ready to play and they jumped on top of alabama early and they had them sitting on their hands
01:42and
01:42then kind of things kind of slipped away from them but uh it made for a really good game yeah

01:53tua i i just curious man how does a team with two injured quarterbacks as injured as the top two

02:08surprised you going with two guys one guy coming back from another acl took forever to heal before this
02:13first start coming up this week man i look at i'm not taking shots at any former quarterbacks that are
02:20running the organization but that's a bad look well i guess it's just you know risking reward joe like
02:27they're not paying too much money maybe they're paying them a million dollars or something so they're
02:32paying them at the lowest end of the scale so if they get something out of them it's not like
02:36they're
02:37putting you know monetary resources into it obviously miami's you know paying the freight
02:42so i guess that's the only way you can kind of look at it but you know to not even
02:47like first of all
02:49he takes all the reps in the offseason and preseason and he pulls up lane before the opening game but
02:56i mean that's look he's got a bad injury history and i don't know if it's anything that you can

03:03on going forward yeah no no no i'm with you on that one hey uh so here we are two

03:08that quarterback thing you're right on the money three starting quarterbacks already down it is
03:13and there's always we do this every year baldy you and i talk about if you don't have one to

03:19with as a starter it's hard enough but then you get to backup quarterbacks and you're just in big
03:24trouble caleb williams jackson dart and jayden daniels all down now it's horrible you know i mean
03:30honestly cooper rush was awful jack strand was awful uh james winston like he should just retire i mean
03:37i mean he couldn't complete a pass it was it was awful and uh you don't give your team any

03:43a chance you know your quarterback play you can't make the throws that are the layups out there you
03:48can't convert a third down the defense is just on the field it's just a matter of time before it

03:53collapses and so unfortunately um we're a league that doesn't have enough good starting quarterbacks
04:01and forget about the backup quarterback show it's even worse right now yeah well listen everybody
04:07we said it last year we're going to say it again oh there's a whole bunch of good college quarterbacks
04:11ready to come into this draft a whole bunch of first round picks do you buy that or is it
04:15too early
04:15in the season i'm not buying it because they said the same they said dante more is going to be
04:20the
04:20best and he's he was awful week one for oregon and so i mean obviously they they play as the
04:27sisters of the poor last week so i'm not going to even look at that but i you know i
04:32mean they said
04:32that going into this college game last year that oh it was going to be a year of the quarterbacks

04:38garrett newsmeyer and all these different you know and then they didn't have a good year
04:42and so i'm not buying any of it until i you know you see him in the playoff game i

04:47carson beck is joe you know in arizona does he get a chance and is he the answer um at
04:53one point he
04:53was a highly touted quarterback so i mean the the problem is the nfl game is just so different than
05:01the college game and it's always a projection when you look at these guys you know baldy the one that
05:06surprised me the most is and it's been a big off story a big story in the offseason has been
05:11mike daniel and harbaugh being together and and espn's had a great time with both the personalities
05:18and the guys are a little you know can be awkward and funny and all that wait nothing funny about
05:23justin herbert and the way they're playing right now what has happened there with mike mcdaniel and
05:28going to change things and all the things he's going to do with justin herbert off to it just a
05:32bad
05:33start yeah he is off to a bad start the offense line didn't be good you know i mean the
05:37right tackle
05:38that's the first round pick had four penalties in the game joe oh he had three offsides and a
05:43holding call and the holding call turned out to be a say on max crosby turned out to be a
05:47safety
05:47i mean you were sean slater supposed to be you know all pro at left tackle he had a bad
05:52penalty
05:53backed him up uh in the interior three one's a rookie center the two guards are very average
05:59like you can only do so much with what they have up front so that's part of it and then
06:04they just
06:04don't have a lot of juice at the receiver position lad mcconkey's a good you know guy that can run
06:11routes but they really don't have much else and so they're very limited by what they have right now
06:16and uh honestly the raiders they played a bunch of rookies on defense themselves and the raiders
06:22uh you saw the week before joe but some of those rookies played really well last week
06:27uh for the raiders and made the charges look bad that jim harbaugh can say we got to fight a
06:34way
06:34out of this i'm not sure who's going to do all the fighting because i think they're kind of limited

07:06walker's leading the league 290 yards at sick more than six yards a carry as that surprised you a
07:13little bit on how well their o-line is playing yeah especially with uh an undrafted rookie free agent
07:20cleave benson playing left tackle but it's it's really uh i mean but walker's been unbelievable
07:27though i mean he's making a lot of things when there isn't a whole lot there uh but really it's
07:32just unreal how good mahomes is i mean coming off you know he had surgery on two ligaments and on

07:40knee you can't even tell they had surgery like he's as good as new and like the deep shots he
07:46took to
07:46taquan thornton the other day like you can't throw the ball any better 40 yards down the field than he
07:51did um he's been unreal uh andy reed i don't know when they do it joe but i've known andy
07:57since he
07:57came to this league 25 years ago he's got guys got to play for every situation i don't care if
08:04it's
08:04fourth and one in the middle of the field if it's fourth and one on the goal line he threw
08:09a ball to
08:09jaylen royal like they've got seven offensive linemen out there on the field and a and a nose
08:14tackle playing fullback and he throws it to a kid that nobody even knows jaylen royal and it was a
08:19touchdown like it was a perfect play but i don't know when they work on these things it's just an
08:25endless playbook yeah and mahomes love he loves it he's got 10 new ideas every week to come into on
08:32tuesdays day off coming in there to get treatment he's got 10 new plays to look at which one do

08:37patrick we'll put it in we'll we'll practice it a couple times and maybe we'll play it in the game
08:43you know it's crazy we were talking about this now that uh we just saw kyle shanahan and they got

08:49really nice team and they're depending on a lot of 30 plus year old guys that are really good players
08:54and sean mcveigh gets a lot of credit in la and how good they are and and i always looking

09:00you put andy reed with with the great head coaches right now in the nfl and andy's been doing it

09:04time i put him at the top the number one coach because he like honestly joe he's going to take
09:11whatever he has like he loved to throw the football that's the west coast offense he came out of
09:17but you know when he got to in philadelphia it was like bombs away get tennis walker you know let's
09:23just feed the running back like he's gonna it's what coaches should do like he's not married to any
09:28system any style like let's let's put the ball in our best players hands travis kelsey looks like
09:34he's kind of reborn right now like they're putting the ball in his hands he looks really
09:39good early in the year we'll we'll see what you know those legs look like in december and january
09:44uh this league has a way of humbling everybody at some point but uh andy is as good as any

09:50there is he's he's done it with different coordinators at different jim johnson in philadelphia
09:55he's got you know spagnola now but he had bob bob stelton for a while and like whatever he's got
10:01he's going to make the best of it coaches players quarterbacks he'll make everybody look good hey

10:11for a second malik willis does he have enough around him to show because we got people already
10:16going we got to get a quarterback i'm like well the protection is not that good we got young receivers
10:21having trouble getting open nobody i understand there's been a lot of losing around here we have made
10:27the playoffs we haven't won a playoff game but does he have enough around him to show that he can

10:33the future quarterback of this team no he doesn't and honestly uh bryce young i was talking to general
10:41manager you know dan morgan uh in carolina the other day like you know when bryce young went to
10:46carolina they didn't have enough around him now they're surrounded with really good players and he's
10:50playing really well and so you're you can't make an evaluation throwing to caleb douglas or chris bell
10:56or malik washington right now like they've got a legitimate player in in h m and the offense line
11:04is okay but it's a lot of new pieces in there and young guys in there they're trying to figure
11:08it out
11:09and they got handled pretty good up front um you know and and you know in against the san francisco
11:15team
11:15that has a lot of talented players and a lot of key positions and so um i i don't think
11:21you can
11:22make an evaluation what they have they don't have a veteran receiver out there like if you put mike
11:27evans in that offense malik wills probably looks a lot better than he does right now yeah no there's
11:33not a lot man and he's trying to buy time and and i know we just got in our mind
11:37oh this draft class
11:38we got to get a guy from this draft class and the whole thing that goes on have you done
11:42uh any up
11:43up close work looking at our offensive line i know austin jackson has taken a lot of heat down
11:48here at right tackle well he really struggled i thought bosa really handled him uh he had a hard
11:55time but you know i i thought look i think caden can be a good player i think patrick paul
12:01could be
12:02a good player but they had troubles uh against the 49ers they went to a five-man defensive front
12:06uh to start that game in large part they they rushed five so a lot of one-on-ones and
12:12you know a lot
12:13one guy was aaron brewer was getting beaten there by crazy halton um you know i thought
12:18grayson halton i feel like everybody's kind of struggled at one time or another but ultimately
12:24it's going to be how they come together as a cohesive group and i'm not ready to write anybody
12:29off but austin did struggle i thought more than anybody else up there on on sunday um but that's
12:36that's nick bosa at his very best i mean makes a lot of guys look bad out there yeah no
12:41no he he's got
12:42it whatever he he lost a little bit with the injury i tell you he he looked great in that
