00:00A family disappeared without a trace in a small town in Ohio.
00:05They seem to have vanished overnight.
00:09The owner of the house was nowhere to be found, nor were her two children, a 13-year-old teenage
00:14girl and an 11-year-old boy.
00:17The officers noticed that there was a jeep in the garage.
00:21When they checked the license plate in the system, they saw that it belonged to another
00:25woman, a 41-year-old neighbor whom the family knew always used to visit Tina.
00:33So they tried to contact this woman but got no response.
00:36So they declared her missing along with the Herman family.
00:41After the discovery of the house in San Francisco and the abandoned truck, the investigation
00:46turned into a race against time until finally evidence was found that would change the course
00:51of the case.
00:52In Tina's house, they found something that at the time seemed like just another detail,
00:57a Walmart bag.
00:59There were ordinary objects, but the bag had a receipt with the date and time.
01:05It was from November 11th at midnight.
01:08Someone had bought them just hours after Tina's house became a crime scene.
01:14In the video from the security camera, you could see a man buying garbage bags, a tarp and
01:20some other things.
01:20Then he was seen getting into a Toyota Yaris vehicle.
01:25When they matched the image with driver's license records, the face matched that of a neighbor
01:31from Mount Vernon named Matthew J.
01:35Huffman.
01:37On November 14th, a SWAT team prepared to raid the Mount Vernon home of Matthew Huffman.
01:44In one room, there was a piece of furniture blocking a door, and when they moved it, they saw the
01:50entrance
01:51to what appeared to be a basement.
01:53When they went down the stairs, they found something no one expected, but everyone needed, a survivor.
02:01In the basement, on an improvised mattress made of leaves and covered with blankets, was Sarah Maynard, 13 years old
02:09daughter?
02:09On November 18th, 2010?
02:13Then, guided by the information that Matthew gave, investigators from the sheriff's office
02:18and the FBI in Ohio went into a wooded area of the Cocosin Nature Preserve near Fredericktown.
02:26They weren't looking for a traditional grave or an improvised pit.
02:31They had a very specific lead, a hollow tree, tall, in the middle of the woods, and a hand-drawn
02:37map showing how to find it.
02:41They started cutting the trunk at a certain height.
02:44What appeared inside confirmed the worst-case scenario.
02:48Inside the trunk, there were seven garbage bags with the remains of the bodies of the three missing people
02:55and also the body of the family's dog.
02:58In the back, there was no file for it.
