00:00Then, something stops them in their tracks.
00:02All three of the women's purses are neatly lined up beside each other.
00:07Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:08And today, we're counting down our picks for the most perplexing, unresolved details in true crime cases.
00:14His friends are seen leaving, but he is not seen on any of the cameras.
00:20Number 10. Why did the security guard open and close the door?
00:24The Gardner Museum heist.
00:26On March 18, 1990, two thieves entered the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum,
00:31bound the security guards with duct tape, and stole artwork worth millions of dollars.
00:36When it was over, the thieves made off with 13 objects, estimated worth $200 to $300 million.
00:46The heist is considered one of the most infamous in history, and none of the stolen pieces has been recovered.
00:51Early in the investigation, suspicion fell on security guard Richard Abath,
00:56who had opened and closed the side door the thieves later used to enter.
01:00The Gardner Museum could have been as secure as Fort Knox,
01:03but that does no good if the guard's going to let the thief in.
01:06Many believe this action signaled the robbers parked outside,
01:10but Abath claimed it was a routine move.
01:12However, a colleague refuted this,
01:14saying such behavior would have drawn the attention of their supervisors.
01:17Abath passed away in 2024 without clarifying his actions,
01:22leaving suspicions about his involvement unresolved.
01:25The robbers say to both guys before leaving them,
01:29keep your mouth shut, and you'll get your reward in a year's time.
01:32Number 9.
01:33Who was Don?
01:34Murder in Room 1046.
01:36On January 2, 1935,
01:39a man checked into the hotel president in Kansas City, Missouri.
01:42Three days later, he was dead.
01:44During his stay, a maid once found him alone in his room,
01:47with the door locked from outside.
01:49She also overheard him speaking on the phone to someone he called Don.
01:53Other guests reported hearing voices and a possible argument coming from the room.
01:57When a bellhop later found the man severely injured,
02:00he refused to tell anyone what happened.
02:02Even stranger, the name he used at check-in turned out to be fake.
02:06It took nearly a year before he was identified as Artemis Ogletree.
02:10Who was the mysterious Don and what transpired in that room?
02:13It seems we may never know.
02:15Number 8.
02:16What happened to the victims' heads?
02:18The Hinterkaifeck murders.
02:20One of the most chilling murder mysteries in German history
02:23unfolded at an isolated farmstead named Hinterkaifeck in 1922.
02:27The family that lived there largely kept to themselves,
02:30so no one suspected anything was wrong until their mail began to pile up at the post office.
02:35When a group went to investigate, they discovered everyone had been murdered.
02:39Odd occurrences haunted the farm just before the killings.
02:41Noises in the attic, missing house keys, and mysterious footprints in the snow.
02:46Even more disturbing, the killer clearly remained on the farm for days after the murders.
02:51Further complicating the strange case,
02:53officials sent the victims' heads to a clairvoyant for additional examination,
02:57but they were eventually lost during the chaos of World War II.
03:02Number 7.
03:02Why did she pack her bag and leave in the middle of the night?
03:05The disappearance of Aisha Degree.
03:07On the night Aisha Degree disappeared from her Shelby, North Carolina home,
03:11there were no signs of forced entry and no indications of foul play.
03:15It appeared Degree woke up, packed a few belongings in her book bag,
03:19and walked out into the dark.
03:20It was stormy that evening,
03:22and eyewitnesses spotted Degree walking alone in the rain along the side of a rural road.
03:27A truck driver saw her around 4 a.m.,
03:29but when Degree realized she had been spotted,
03:31she took off into the woods and disappeared.
03:33When her mother went to wake her up for school that morning,
03:37Aisha didn't answer.
03:39Months later, her book bag was found miles from where she was last seen.
03:43A man clearing brush found Aisha's book bag just off the highway.
03:47Inside was a library book Aisha had not checked out,
03:50and a shirt that did not belong to her.
03:52She's the last thing I think of when I go to sleep.
03:55First thing I think of when I wake up.
03:57Number 6.
03:58Who was Joseph Augustus Zarelli living with at the time of his death?
04:01The boy in the box.
04:03On a chilly day in February 1957,
04:06a grisly discovery on the side of an isolated Philadelphia road shocked the entire nation.
04:11A boy's body was found tucked away inside a cardboard box.
04:15In 2022, after decades without a name,
04:18the boy in the box was identified through genetic genealogy as Joseph Augustus Zarelli.
04:23But while his identity has finally been uncovered,
04:26his murder remains unsolved.
04:29Little is known about Zarelli's life leading up to his tragic demise.
04:32Officials have reason to believe he was given away or placed for adoption after he was born.
04:37If so, where did he live?
04:39And who was responsible for him before his death?
04:42We've learned Joseph Zarelli's biological mother and father are deceased.
04:47Number 5.
04:48Who was behind the strange phone calls?
04:50The disappearance of the Springfield Three.
04:52On the day of their high school graduation,
04:54Suzanne Streeter and Stacey McCall celebrated by attending several parties in their town of Springfield, Missouri.
05:00They planned to sleep at Streeter's house that night before heading to the water park with friends the next day.
05:04You say, I love you again on the phone, and I had no idea that was the last time I was going to hear for her voice.
05:11When the pair didn't show up the following morning, their friends went looking for them,
05:15but discovered that McCall, as well as Streeter, and her mother, Cheryl Levitt, were gone.
05:19No signs of struggle.
05:21Everything was nice and neat.
05:22The only potential clues were a strange message on the answering machine
05:26and a series of obscene phone calls made to the house on the day the women were discovered missing.
05:31The identity of this caller may provide insight into the disappearances,
05:35but sadly, it has never been uncovered.
05:38This room is dedicated to the nearly 10,000 tips that have come in over the past quarter century.
05:44Number 4.
05:45Why did she drive to New Hampshire?
05:47The disappearance of Maura Murray.
05:48It's been over two decades since college student Maura Murray left her dorm in Amherst, Massachusetts,
05:54got into her car, and disappeared.
05:56No one knows Murray's intended destination,
05:59but she ended up stranded on a remote road in New Hampshire after crashing her car.
06:03A few eyewitnesses saw her there, but by the time police arrived on the scene, Maura was gone.
06:08I think the most likely thing is that she was picked up by a local.
06:13Unanswered questions swirl around the case,
06:15generating countless headlines and spawning dozens of theories from amateur sleuths all over the world.
06:21They haven't ruled out really anything, so everything's still on the table.
06:28Why did Maura travel out of state without telling anyone?
06:30Was she meeting someone somewhere?
06:32And what happened to her on that desolate stretch of road after she wrecked her car?
06:36And Julie says her sister's actions leading up to the disappearance still don't make sense.
06:42Number 3.
06:43Was the fire deliberately set?
06:45The Sauter children disappearance.
06:47On Christmas Eve 1945, the Sauter family went to bed,
06:51only to wake up a few hours later to find their house engulfed in flames.
06:55George and Jenny Sauter managed to escape the flames with four of their children.
06:59However, despite their attempts, George was unable to save his remaining five kids.
07:04Officials attributed the incident to faulty wiring,
07:07but Jenny recalled hearing a loud thud followed by a rolling sound on the roof before the fire broke out.
07:13This led many to wonder if the flames had been deliberately ignited.
07:16Adding to the mystery,
07:18the human remains of the five missing children were never recovered at the site.
07:22Was the fire actually arson?
07:24Your guess is as good as ours.
07:26Number 2.
07:27How did he leave the bar without being caught on camera?
07:29The disappearance of Brian Schaefer.
07:31In 2006, Ohio State University medical student Brian Schaefer went out to celebrate the beginning of spring break.
07:38Before the night was over, he got separated from his friends and was assumed to have gone home without telling them.
07:44When the lights come on at 2 a.m., he's nowhere to be found.
07:48However, he was never seen again.
07:51Police reviewed the security footage and saw Schaefer and his friends entering the bar.
07:55The footage later showed his friends leaving.
07:57But other than a brief interaction between Schaefer and two ladies, there was no record of him exiting.
08:03After the women leave, Brian is seen re-entering the bar just before 2 a.m.
08:08The only unmonitored way out was through a construction area,
08:12which investigators believe Schaefer couldn't have navigated at night.
08:16So how and when did Schaefer leave the bar?
08:18And more importantly, where did he go?
08:21Brian's remaining loved ones continue to search for answers.

08:41Number 1. Did he survive the jump?
08:44D.B. Cooper
08:45Just before Thanksgiving in 1971, a man going by the name of Dan Cooper purchased a one-way ticket from Portland, Oregon to Seattle, Washington.
08:54Mid-flight, he threatened to detonate a bomb if he wasn't given $200,000.
08:59This is no joke. There's a bomb in here.
09:02Once the ransom money was secured in Seattle, Cooper took it and parachuted from the plane somewhere over southwestern Washington.
09:09Decades later, many aspects of the case remain unsolved.
09:12Cooper has never been identified, and his fate, along with that of the ransom money, is unknown.
09:25While some of the cash was eventually recovered, a sizable portion is still missing.
09:30The pressing question that remains today is whether Cooper even survived the jump from the aircraft.
09:36As long as a man's got a knife, a cigarette lighter, and the clothes on his back, he could have lived indefinitely out there.
09:43Can you unravel the mystery of these unsolved details?
09:46What are your theories? Let us know in the comments.
