In 1980, Scania introduced the GPRT range (the 2‑series), and with it came the Modular Cab Concept. It was the brand’s first fully modular product line — engines, gearboxes, axles, chassis and cabs shared common components — allowing Scania to create almost unlimited configurations using a reduced number of parts.
Modularisation cut the number of components needed for the entire cab range by around 70% (including sheet‑metal parts, which require major investments in tooling). It also reduced working hours per cab by roughly 30%, a huge leap in production efficiency. With fewer components, Scania could offer a very wide variety of versions tailored to any transport need.
