00:11The Portuguese Sideral Scharfusia is the most complex and the most complicated timepiece that
00:19has ever been built in Schaffhausen. Normally it was one watchmaker or an engineer in the old days
00:26that has invented something but now we had a team of four engineers and a professor of the University
00:33of Zurich that together developed this watch. It took us over 10 years and it was a slow development
00:40step by step because this watch is not only showing the time, it shows two times. It's the solar time
00:48that we know and the star time or sidereal time. Besides that the watch is individually built
00:55for the buyer. It means we calculate the starry sky above the location which the client gives us.
01:04It could be his home, could be the Eiffel Tower or the wall in China, whatever. So this watch is

01:11piece by piece which makes it more unique than any limited edition and we really build it to the wishes
01:21of our customer. The Portuguese Sideral Scharfusia is the most exciting, the most exclusive and the most
01:30expensive watch IWC has ever built. The front of this watch is a classical Portuguese watch with
01:38pfeu hands, arabic numbers and chemin de fer. At nine o'clock you see a huge tourbillon. It is a
01:46constant
01:47force tourbillon. In the tourbillon there is a mechanism which is loaded five times a second and gives the energy
01:53once a second. That's why the accuracy of this watch is really precise for over two days.
01:59In the center we show the solar time. It's a standard time. At 12 o'clock there is a second
02:06time zone.
02:07It is a sidereal time. The sidereal time deviates from our standard time by nearly four minutes a day.
02:13Sidereal time or star time is used by astronomers. It is needed to observe the stars. At half past four
02:21there is a power reserve display. It shows the 96 hours power reserve of this manual wound movement.
02:30Up to now we have seen a classical Portuguese watch with a little understatement. The back
02:37is an instrument. In the center there is a customized star chart. We can print up to 1000 stars on
02:45this
02:45star chart and the stars are printed in different sizes depending on the brightness they appear at the
02:51sky. There is a yellow horizon. The stars which are in this horizon are currently visible at the sky.
02:58This could be day or night time. The star chart turns once a day. Once a sidereal day means it

03:07hours and 56 minutes. Another feature of this watch is sunrise and sunset. It is shown with two red triangle
03:16hands. There is another red triangle hand under the star chart which shows the solar time again on the
03:23back. Of course we have a perpetual calendar in this watch. It is shown between the star chart and the

03:30hour rings at 12 o'clock. This perpetual calendar counts the number of the days in a year. Starting from
03:37one to three hundred and sixty five or three hundred and sixty six in a leap year. The most beautiful
03:44feature at this watch in my opinion it is a magic function. It shows the night time and daytime by
03:52changing the background. All these functions are customized to the client. The client can define
04:00where he wants to observe the stars and we calculate the star chart especially for this place. Everything
04:08is individual in this watch.
