00:00Hi David, you must be very happy, not only with those three points, but that VAR didn't go against us
00:08again.
00:10What are your thoughts on that?
00:13Well, on the VAR decision, I've said that I think it says, what was the word I used?
00:21Factor's ability to save it, which I didn't think was the case.
00:26But look, it's really difficult for the referees, we understand that.
00:31Do I think we'll get consistency from that decision through all the season?
00:35On the same thing, I'll be doubtful of that.
00:38The goalkeeper wouldn't have saved the header.
00:45He got taken a little bit to the front post by the runner, Brennan Johnson.
00:49But I don't see, it was nothing like last year, well last year they were blocking the goalkeepers
00:54and doing all sorts of things, nothing like that at all.
00:59So, but there's no doubt that Brennan was in an offside position.
01:03But did he interfere really?
01:06Was the goalkeeper ever going to save it?
01:07That would have been the bit I'm out in it.
01:09But ultimately it didn't make any difference to the result, so thankfully that was okay.
01:14But you must be pleased and satisfied to be reaching the international break,
01:18up in fifth, five green sheets and seven, with an unbeaten run.
01:23Look, we had big chances to go further in front today.
01:28We didn't.
01:29We started quite well, got the goal and looked as if we were going to be fine.
01:34Ipswich had a period in the middle of the first half,
01:36and then we came back into it just before the end of the first half.
01:40They started a bit better in the second half, and then once the player got sent off,
01:44I thought we should have gone on and scored more.
01:47So credit to Ipswich for sticking with it and hanging in made it a bit nervy at the end.
01:52But overall, we'd done the job.
01:57We did a difficult week with the game on Wednesday and today.
02:07Hi, David.
02:08How do you assess this sort of first period of games you've had?
02:11Because as Andy said, you're up to fifth, you're still unbeaten, you're still in the cap.
02:15Has that gone as well as you could have expected, better?
02:19Yeah, I think I would have to say yes in lots of cases.
02:23If I draw it Tottenham and I draw it Bournemouth, away from home,
02:26which if you look at how Bournemouth are, and I know Tottenham have lost today,
02:30but in the main Tottenham's, what they've brought into the club,
02:33you would expect them to be a difficult game for Andy.
02:36So we've done pretty well.
02:38I think the clean sheets is something for us to be pleased about
02:43and try and build on if we can.
02:45Scoring the goals, and we have, even statistically,
02:48we've been making much more chances.
02:50I think today we had 21 shots but only two in target, so that's not any good.
02:54But the 21 shots is very good because in what attempts at goal
02:58in all the games, it's been much, much higher than it's been.
03:02So we're attempting to play in a way where we can get more chances,
03:06trying and produce more opportunities.
03:09And in the main, I think we have, but we've not been taking them,
03:12and I thought we missed that.
03:13Tiernan missed a great header chance in the first half,
03:16and in the second half, Kieran missed a great header chance
03:18at the back post.
03:20Brennan had a chance, and Tyler Dibling done really well,
03:24had one good save and another couple of chances.
03:26So we've been doing a lot of good things,
03:29but I'd like it to have been better today if I could have.
03:33But it was exactly the game I thought it would be.
03:36Ipswich have won two games, been really unfortunate,
03:40and a couple of games have lost, been in it all the time.
03:43So not for a minute did I think it would be any different
03:45than the way the game was today.
03:48Joe?
03:50Hi, Joe.
03:50Hi, David.
03:51You brought Harrison Armstrong back into the side today.
03:53I think he's been involved in all the league games so far this season.
03:56When you look back at the start of the season you've had
03:59and the role that he's played in it,
04:01just how pleased are you with that role
04:03and the maturity that he's shown?
04:04I'm really pleased.
04:05I think Harrison stepped up brilliantly well.
04:08I actually thought today,
04:09because he'd missed a few days training and been out,
04:12he just lost a little bit of his rhythm
04:13from where he'd been recently.
04:18But he's probably stepped up
04:21where we thought he would be at this moment in time.
04:24And there's a bit of competition with Hayden,
04:26sitting on the bench.
04:28So that keeps him going.
04:30But he's done well.
04:32But today was just for us all,
04:34just Jimmy Gardner.
04:35We're just a little bit under the weather generally
04:37from where we've been.
04:39I don't know if the midweek game on Wednesday
04:41just took a little bit of its toll today.
04:48Hi, David.
04:49A few of the players have spoken about
04:51feeling as though they were maybe written off
04:52a little bit at the end of the transfer window.
04:54So I'm just wondering if you think
04:56you've almost, from what you've seen inside the camp,
05:00they're using that as fuel.
05:01Has it been a positive almost at the start of the season?
05:04I think we've tried to turn it into a positive.
05:07So, you know, if we hadn't been winning the games,
05:09then you'd be asking me much different questions.
05:13So I think that the players need huge credit
05:15to the question of getting to this point
05:17and what was it, you know,
05:19unbeaten in five games or something like that
05:21or where we've been.
05:21So, yeah, no, so, so really good.
05:26But I'm actually looking for,
05:29this makes it, I'm expecting them to do this.
05:32So for them, I'm saying,
05:34no, I expect you, so what do you think?
05:35You think you're doing a great job
05:36because you've got a couple of games?
05:37No, the manager expects you to do that.
05:39And I'm actually more disappointed
05:42because I'm not scoring more goals
05:43and I'm wrapping them what you can't believe at the moment,
05:47why are we not scoring,
05:48why are we not getting better crosses in the box,
05:50why are we not getting better finishes
05:52and shooting from the edge of the box, et cetera.
05:55Because I think that that's probably one of the things
05:58which we're missing from being maybe a half-decent side.
06:07David, I just wanted to ask,
06:09Jordan's just been on TV talking about Barry
06:11and his development day in, day out
06:12and that the goals will come for him.
06:14Should have been two today without Haddon.
06:16So I just wondered, you see him day in, day out.
06:18How's his development?
06:19How are you finding Barry's development?
06:20He's doing really well.
06:22He's developing coming on.
06:25I think coming into the Premier League as a striker
06:28for the first time is not an easy thing.
06:29We took a bit of a risk at the time.
06:31We thought, young striker, here we go.
06:34We'll have a goal with it and see how it works.
06:36He'd scored a decent amount of goals in La Liga.
06:40And he's developing and he's got an awful lot
06:43of really good attributes.
06:46But we're wanting him not to,
06:48we want him to score, you know.
06:49We're saying, my goodness,
06:50you get the opportunities.
06:52Why, you know, he could have easily scored.
06:53He should have scored his header today,
06:56which I think would have made the game 2-0 at that time,
06:58I think.
07:00So, we just want those chances for him to try and take them.
07:03But I have to say, he works really hard.
07:06He tries to get himself the best.
07:09And he's still settling in, but he's doing a good job.
07:12And if I can just ask what Tyler did bring,
07:14it's been a really positive week for him.
07:16I mean, it's been maybe a bit of a slow burn for him,
07:18but how have you found this week?
07:19Yeah, I'm smiling when you mention his name now.
07:21You know, prior to that, I might have been a bit,
07:23oh, I don't know those emojis which go down the way,
07:26but they are.
07:27But I've got the opposite ones now.
07:29I'm sort of those ones which are clapping
07:31and smiley eyes and that.
07:34So, I think Tyler Dibling at the moment
07:36is just beginning to show us a little bit
07:39of what he's got.
07:40And, you know, by the way,
07:42yous are watching the games as well,
07:43so you should be seeing what I'm seeing as well.
07:45I'm seeing this is looking much better
07:46than what you showed us last year.
07:49I actually thought he should have scored one of them.
07:51I think the one he bent in, I thought,
07:52was a, I'm not seeing a regulation save for the goalie,
07:55but I thought the one he created enough space
07:57to get his shot.
07:58And I think it was the second one
07:59I thought he should have probably scored with.
08:02But suddenly we're beginning to see somebody
08:03who's got a bit more development in him,
08:07beginning to look as if he's getting closer to it.
08:09So, let's hope that can continue.
08:13Yeah.
08:24No, I'm not in front of you people.
08:27I won't be saying it, that's for sure.
08:28You know, what I say to the players inside.
08:30And no, we've not used those words this year
08:32because I think we're still just preparing ourselves
08:35and making sure that we can do the best.
08:37I hope that I'm able to use the words.
08:39I enjoyed using it last year.
08:40If you think that we had been relegation material
08:43when we came in in November,
08:45I don't know, November, no, it wasn't November,
08:47I came in, was it?
08:48January.
08:48January.
08:50And we got out and we won the games
08:51and we got out of Goodison.
08:52We came in here, 12 or 13,
08:5412 or 13 new players had to come in
08:57and to even be saying that we were going to be a squad
08:59that even were using the words Europe.
09:02Honestly, I wouldn't have been doing it.
09:04But the players had done so well,
09:05I started to believe,
09:06this is going to, this has got a real chance.
09:08So, it picked up and it allowed me to be like that.
09:11So, I heard a lot of things about last year
09:14which wasn't so good.
09:15And what I thought to myself,
09:16my goodness,
09:17I don't know who the people are talking about that.
09:19Other people who are writing it
09:20are talking absolute baloney.
09:22It was fantastic what we tried to do
09:25and we came so close to doing something
09:27which would have been incredibly special
09:29after being no money, relegation,
09:32just about, on the verge of it,
09:33moved into a new stadium.
09:35When if you look at the history of new stadiums,
09:37I've said many times,
09:38it's never been an easy job for any team
09:40when they move into a new stadium.
09:42So, we came really close.
09:45Spoken off.
09:46Just before we go,
09:48Joe, I believe it's your last game
09:50with the Liverpool echo today.
09:52We've got a bit of something for you.
09:54Fucking big round of applause
09:55to that one in his last game.
09:59I think you were better than Dom.
10:05You know that?
10:06When Dom is...
10:11The club have got you a bottle of cheap wine.
10:14Okay.
10:16Where to ask the three queens for this?
10:20Well done, Joe.
10:21I hope everything goes well for you.
10:23What are you doing next?
10:24Good.
10:25Paddy's just going to get a picture.
10:26All right, cheers.
10:27There you go.
10:29There you go.
10:30Cheers, thank you.
10:37Cheers.
10:38Good stuff.
10:38Good.
10:39If I could just say a few words,
10:41it's been a really interesting time
10:43in the last few years
10:44and like everyone probably
10:45bears some of the scars from that
10:46but whatever's been going on,
10:47it's been nothing but a privilege
10:49to cover this great club.
10:50I've really, really enjoyed it.
10:52It's been an honour
10:53and it's not just the stories
10:54I've been able to tell
10:55and the places I've been able to see
10:56but people I've been able to make
10:58in the friendships as well
10:58both so many within,
11:00you know, within the press pack
11:01and so many people I respect
11:02on a professional level
11:03but also in and around the club as well.
11:05And no matter what's been going on,
11:07I've always been made to feel welcome
11:08and that's testament
11:10to just what runs through
11:11this brilliant club.
11:12So thank you everyone.
11:13Well done.
11:13Well done.
11:16See you later.
11:17See you don't.
11:18That's what you do.
