00:00And Kyler Murray has been ruled out for Sunday's Vikings game against Chicago
00:04due to a concussion suffered last Sunday against Green Bay.
00:07That means Carson Wentz will be under center with J.J. McCarthy as a backup.
00:11Former Viking Chad Greenway spoke on the Chad Hartman Show
00:15about how long a player should be sidelined with a head injury.
00:19If I make you the czar of medical personnel for the league,
00:25would you allow any player who has a concussion to play the next week?
00:32Or is that too broad-based?
00:34Do we need to look at each case on an individual basis?
00:38Well, kudos to you. I've never been asked that before.
00:40And I think it's a really interesting question to ask.
00:42I mean, I get to take you back to my own career.
00:45And you don't call it negligence,
00:47because this is the way of the world back in 2006 and 7 and 8
00:51when I was coming into the league in my first two years.
00:53I can remember having concussion, you know, kind of getting hit hard from a fullback.
00:59You know something's off, and I'm back the next day at practice,
01:04and you know that's not good.
01:06You know that's a horrible story, and I'm not in any way making light that that's a positive thing.
01:11The point is, is when you have education and you learn things about, you know,
01:16your brain, concussion symptoms, CTE,
01:19all the things that we all understand now what this game brings to us,
01:23and really almost every sport, not just football, right?
01:25Soccer players with headers and rugby players,
01:28and there's trauma all over the place when you come down to high-contact sports like that.
01:32You know, I think it's an interesting talking point is,
01:34is this just a mandatory one-week sort of IR?
01:37Concussion protocol confirmed.
01:40You're showing all the symptoms.
01:41Is this just a mandatory, okay, you're going to take 14 days, right?
01:46You're going to take a week-plus, get right, and come back.
01:49I don't mind that idea, to be honest.
01:51I will say, you know, just with my own experience,
01:53there definitely are levels to this, though, too.
01:56I mean, you saw the way that Kyler went down,
01:58and I'm by no means a doctor and not advocating for anything or trying to pretend to be one,
02:02but when you see his neck get bent the way it does,
02:04you have so much muscular issues as well,
02:07because now all of a sudden you have a really, really sore and stiff neck,
02:09you have a concussion, you have a headache, you have all these things.
02:12It just extends your need, you know, the time you need to come back.
02:16But I think it's a fair question.
02:18I think it's something that should be considered.
02:20And if we're really going to be serious about, you know, the health of players,
02:23you know, it's something you should definitely look at
02:25and just kind of gauge, like, how many of these concussions,
02:28these players' concussions that are confirmed are coming back in week one
02:32and what's the longevity of those guys and how is that affecting them.
