00:24she's also a community builder and now she's allowing all of us creators to really deep
00:29dive into our creativity and our professional bags we got amber lewis in the building detroit ceo how

00:40she's a big uh a big league so we we are in the presence of a of a real queen

00:48know how do you manage your time you have so that's a good first question like i i'm just looking
00:55at all
00:56this and then talking like how do you do it all yeah it's just a game of prioritization right like
01:01we're deep into event planning mode and so i do have some influencer partnerships that also need
01:05to come out around the same time and then we have partnerships that we have to do for content
01:09with sponsors for the weekend as well and so it's just like what's coming first do we need to confirm
01:15speakers right now do we need to do some venue logistics or do we need to be shooting the content
01:19for the partnerships that's actually paying for it that's how you know she's a pro yeah she answered
01:24the question without freaking out correct i would have like as soon as you start running there like
01:28i would have been looking at the paper being like so we have to do this and this so you
01:33told me this
01:34off air so i'm gonna let you explain can you explain how the create the detroit creator weekend
01:39came to fruition yeah so it's a mosh posh of things if you will one i've been a full-time
01:46creator for six
01:47years and i'm always traveling to different places around the country to get resources to learn grow and
01:53connect with brands and i really just wanted to bring those opportunities here to the city of
01:58detroit so last year i piloted some events i hosted a few mixers i did a creator shoot with shoemake
02:03studios and we had 300 people rcp for both of those events in 24 hours um i did a creator
02:09dinner and i did
02:11a workshop for influence 101 and so i'm looking at these cities um and i went on the creator economy
02:17tour last fall as well just to do some market research connect with ecosystem leaders see what they're
02:22doing and how they're bringing industries to those cities yeah and what i found was like people feel
02:27like one they don't know detroit's story two they don't know who the creators here are and the quality
02:32of content that we create and so detroit creator weekend is a solution to those things right it's
02:37me taking all of the events that i piloted last year and putting them into one large paramount moment
02:42so the creators in this city can feel like they have spaces to go to learn um from people who
02:47have
02:48sustained themselves as creators um who've built businesses and careers off of this work but also
02:54so they can meet other creators in the market and that we can all grow together and so six weeks

03:11weeks if you need a little bit more you know what but that's the beauty of being a creator right

03:17i've worked with the partners that i have i've worked with the venues that we're hosting this
03:22with right it's a relationship and so if you are a good person and you do good business you can
03:26call
03:26somebody be like hey can i bring 300 people to this venue in six weeks and they're like yeah sure
03:31there you go i'm telling you she's detroit ceo she can do what she wants that right there should
03:36be on the shirt if you do good business and you're a good person i mean that right there is
03:41kind of
03:41half the battle it is talk about the slogan detroit influences the world yes thank you so much for
03:48pulling that up and so when i'm traveling right i'm like usually the only person from detroit in the
03:53room like i went to the white house creator economy conference in the biden harris administration
03:57only detroiter when i said i'm from detroit they're like detroit because everyone's from new york
04:01in la and i'm like yeah and so i even did some street style interviews at culture con which is
04:06the largest festival for black creatives last year and i'm like hey do y'all know anything
04:09about detroit and they're like no and i'm like do you know motown they're like not really i'm like
04:15stevie wonder wow aretha franklin they're like oh yeah yeah yeah and so what i found was that people
04:20know detroit story but they don't know that they know detroit story and so what i'm always saying is
04:25detroit influences the world right like we had the first paved road on woodwork we had the first
04:31indoor mall there are so many firsts that we did like we created the modern pop song with motown and
04:36so our influence is felt cartier cartier cartier invited me to an event where they said detroit is
04:42the eyewear capital for cartier there you go and we have these debates with different cities like oh
04:46we started it no no no no and so i'm just emphasizing that and putting that at the forefront so
04:52much so
04:52that i'm producing a series with visit detroit about how detroit influences the world and that first
04:57episode will be coming out this month we'll be talking about art architecture and sustainability
05:01throughout the month of design so we really do that so um just in case you weren't keeping score
05:07on your cards at home we've got an entire uh like influencer creator con thing going on you're gonna do
05:16just a video would visit detroit no big deal no big thing yeah at all the same time like what
05:23how are you i have trouble like balancing my every day everything can you explain what this weekend is
05:31going to entail for people who are like wait i didn't even know the detroit creator weekend was
05:36happening yeah and so it's a space for creators but also if you're an aspiring creator or you're
05:41interested in being creators and i also want to emphasize just what being a creator is and what the
05:45creator economy is it's like if you're an individual who is creating content distributing it producing
05:50it right so you could be doing um voice videos and being on camera but you could also be editing
05:56or
05:56a videographer or a photographer right like all of those peoples are created within the ecosystem
06:00and so the weekend is a space for all of us to come together and the first day is a
06:05welcome
06:05party at rent free house it's a new black-owned listening lounge in eastern market they're actually
06:09not even officially open yet they've been doing soft opening so that's really cool there you go um
06:14and then friday we're doing a half-day summit with bamboo at jefferson hub in midtown that's
06:19like our educational space right we're taking four hours and we're having some conversations with some
06:24people who have done the work um the panel that i'm really excited about is with diara kilpatrick
06:29from diara from detroit on paramount plus if you haven't watched it make sure you tune in
06:34the show it's crazy yeah we'll be talking with her and dennis reed on the art of telling detroit
06:40stories and what i love about the way that i've set this up is after each conversation we're going
06:44to be doing a 15 minute micro workshop so you can actually learn a tactical framework to apply what
06:50we talked about right like hearing something from somebody is one thing being inspired by their
06:53story is one thing but i want to teach you how you can actually apply this to your own work
06:57as a
07:00saturday we're bringing the detroit creator shoot back i'm so excited about it because myself and
07:05micah shoemake from shoemake studios are partnering with design core who is carrying the designation of
07:11detroit being the only us unesco city of design and so we're partnering with their closing symposium
07:16there have been hundreds of events all month um focused on design in detroit and so at the closing
07:21symposium we'll be doing the detroit creator shoot that's at the detroit public library and then sunday
07:27is when we come to kickback we'll have a wellness experience that morning that we actually haven't
07:32announced yet y'all get in the first job for that we're bringing the first mornings to detroit
07:38creator weekend um she does movement on the beach regularly with an a who's also a creator air and
07:44be creating um and so she'll lead us in some movement 10 30 and then we get to the creator
07:49cookout
07:49that's happening in partnership with bell out and detroit dar who is one of my faves love and that's a
07:55family-friendly event right like everything else is kind of for you to come and show up
07:58but this is one where you can bring the kids you can bring your partner you can bring your cousin
08:02everybody does have to register so we can know how many people are coming but we'll have djs there'll
08:07be food trucks and it's just a time for us to kick back i wanted to feel like detroit creator
08:11tailgate
08:12homecoming right like so you can wear your favorite detroit merch your alma mater your detroit sports team
08:16whatever makes you proud right and so that's the weekend so it sounds like there's a lot of different
08:22ways to touch this right what's the initial what what's the first thing someone interested in taking

09:03are making content whether they're the videographer or you know behind the scenes for someone who's like
09:09i really want to get out there i really want to learn this but i'm nervous about you know who

09:15where are the right places what do you want to say to them they're hearing you right now what do
09:18you
09:18want to say to them to get them to detroit creator weekend next weekend yeah i think that's the beauty
09:23about being creative is like you just have to start right nobody can tell you if you are or aren't
09:28a
09:28creator but if you're curious or interested you already have the tools to do it right you have a
09:32phone where you can start doing your content so i would tell you to come right connect with people
09:37who are doing the work already so you can feel more comfortable and confident doing it on your own
09:41but also so you can just get some resources and tips right that's the best way to learn is to
09:46be
09:46in community with other people and i think social isolation is part of why people are so afraid to
09:51start but once you get in a room where everybody already has their phone out they have their lights
09:55up it's normal to be doing it you feel more comfortable to let your own guard down and start
10:00shooting your own content is there one forum or anything that's going on on the weekend that you
10:06would tell that person that new person like this is a must you have if you don't go to anything
10:10this is
10:11the one if you're new i would say the summit right that's where you come and really learn
10:15what this economy is what kind of career you can build from it right and some people just do it
10:20for
10:20fun but i want to emphasize that this is an industry not just a community right it's worth 34 billion
10:26dollars right now and so the more that we look at this as an industry and we tell creators that
10:31they're valuable the more that they will feel comfortable charging what they're worth and the more
10:36money that we make because we're economic drivers right we've seen creators do videos
10:40and restaurants haven't closed because of right yeah and so we have to look at that as
10:45more than just community and creativity it's an actual industry that's moving the needle there you
