00:00What will the judges be looking for at the International Bodybuilding Federation Pro
00:04event in Argentina?
00:06In his 58th competition at the age of 57, Dexter Simon is preparing for all possibilities.
00:13Several things, especially in men's physique, you're looking for proportions, so you're
00:18looking for shoulder width to waist, taper, you're looking for symmetry, you're looking
00:24for balance, your biceps can be overpowering your shoulders, your back can be too wide
00:30and your waist blocky, your vascularity, you have to have to look conditioned, so you might
00:36have a beautiful shape, but you're looking like a hole in water, you understand, so it's
00:41a lot of things.
00:41Still, even with knowledge of competing, there's still room for uncertainty on what to expect
00:47in Argentina.
00:48No, I've never competed in Argentina before, so I'm curious and I'm also cautious, you
00:56know, because you don't know in terms of different parts of the world, it's an interesting thing,
01:01different parts of the world have different requirements in terms of physique, believe
01:06it or not, on a pro level.
01:07So, like South America, they tend to be a little leaner and harder, but a little more muscle
01:14on it, like in Europe, it's lean, crisp, lean, thin, rip hard, America, more muscle size
01:21and body.
01:22So you have to now understand what part of the world you're going to compete and fashion
01:27your physique towards that.
01:29But of course, this is the first time I've competed in Argentina, so I'm not too sure,
01:33I kind of trained close to what Colombian, Brazil physique would have been like, which is
01:37a bigger, more fuller, leaner, but you don't know.
01:40So, it still has a certain level of anxiety as it will.
01:45He will be going to Argentina with his wife, Alana Lee Woo, who has stood by his side when
01:50it mattered most.
01:51She takes part in Ironman competitions and keeps him locked in by catering to his needs
01:56while he faces the judges.
01:58His mind ever focused on realistic expectations.
02:02So, we can pretty much know in the line-up who the top five is going to be.
02:06Yeah, you're pretty much knowing, you're looking at the physics and you're pretty much knowing
02:09because it's a real, I'd say, something that is misleading when you're accustomed to looking
02:18at self-women and mirroring in the gym by yourself because you have no comparison.
02:22Everybody looks good by themselves, but stand up next to somebody and you see your flaws,
02:26you see this person is more vascular, bigger, better symmetry, you understand?
02:30And then you go, wow, I didn't realize the comparison should not have been against me,
02:34but against others.
02:36And when they get into the position, now the reality kicks in and they say, okay,
02:39I'm looking like I could make the top ten.
02:42It's not that you're defeating yourself, but you have to be a professional.
02:45You have to be realistic.
02:47Simon says he has already achieved one of his objectives after coming out of retirement
02:52to earn the right to compete.
02:54As for his current bodyweight stats...
02:57My normal weight pre-preparation shows going to be 170 pounds, and right now at about 159.
03:06My body fat percentage normal during the year could be probably about 5 to 6 percent,
03:13and right now at 1.7 percent body fat.
03:17He leaves for the tournament on Friday before competing on Saturday.
