00:00You check the stats, but when people start talking player props, how much should the forecast actually matter?
00:08Because weather can affect what happens on the field, but maybe not as simply as you think.
00:14Take football. Wind is one of the biggest factors to watch.
00:19Strong winds can affect deep passes and field goals, but windy doesn't tell us everything.
00:24How strong are the gusts? Which direction are they blowing? And how exposed is the stadium?
00:32Now, rain can make football harder to grip and a field more slippery.
00:36And when conditions become more extreme, heavy rain or snow can affect visibility, footing and ball handling.
00:43But simply seeing rain or snow in the forecast doesn't automatically mean fewer passing yards.
00:49In fact, research has found weather can have a measurable impact on NFL scoring,
00:54but that's the game as a whole, not one player.
00:57Baseball has its own weather equation.
01:00Studies have found baseball tends to carry farther through warmer, less dense air.
01:05And wind blowing out can help a well-hit ball, while wind blowing in can work against it.
01:12So can the forecast tell you whether a player goes over or under?
01:17No, but it can tell you something the stats can't.
01:21The environment they'll be playing in.
01:24See you next time.
