Prime Minister Andy Burnham defends his government’s record on small boats crossings, which is currently at a seven-year low, adding, “It's about fairness across the country, not saying that only one part of the country or one group of communities should do all of the work.” It comes as Piddington village in Oxfordshire has voted by a substantial margin to ‘leave’ the UK in a symbolic, non-legally binding independence referendum over the government's decision to house up to 1,250 asylum seekers at a former Ministry of Defence site nearby.
