00:00One of the most expensive habits you can have has nothing to do with money.
00:06It is avoiding things that you already know you need to do.
00:11Because there are problems that disappear on their own, sure, but most of the stuff we avoid does the opposite.
00:18It gets heavier.
00:20You know, if you wait to do an assignment, it ends up turning into an all-night emergency because you
00:25didn't do it in time.
00:27But something that you needed to decide starts affecting other decisions in your life, too.
00:32And there's so many things that would be so much easier if you just locked in and did them right
00:36away.
00:37Because it's easier temporarily to avoid them.
00:40It's easier to have a little junky snack to go not work out, to go not do what you need
00:45to do.
00:46But it adds up.
00:47And it's dangerous.
00:49Because the second that you decide that you're not dealing with it today, maybe you get relief, but only for
00:54today.
00:56And you tell yourself that you'll do it tomorrow, but what if you don't then?
00:59What if you keep pushing it up?
01:01Because for a little while, the problems feel smaller because you don't have to do it yet.
01:06But nothing actually got better, did it?
01:09You just stopped paying attention to it.
01:12And I realized that a lot of procrastination isn't actually being lazy.
01:19Sometimes you know what needs to be done, but doing it means experiencing something that you don't want to feel
01:25today.
01:28Because at the end of the day, maybe it's not being lazy.
01:30Maybe it's just a feeling.
01:33I thought that was another squirrel.
01:35But I think you're worried or you're overwhelmed.
01:38And opening the problem makes it feel real.
01:41So you avoid it and you stay comfortable.
01:45But you don't realize that that will cause you more discomfort later.
01:50And I think of it like interest.
01:53The original problem has a price.
01:55But the more times that you avoid it, adds interest to it.
02:00It's a difficult conversation today.
02:02You've got to tell your parents or loved ones or friends something.
02:05It might take 10 minutes, but if you push it off for a long time,
02:08it could take months of resentment and lost trust.
02:12You know, things that wouldn't have happened if you had just been honest in the first place.
02:18And the same thing happens at school or work.
02:21Starting something when you have plenty of time might be boring.
02:25Of course it will be.
02:27But starting it right forward to do with the exact same work,
02:31now with a lot of panic and a lot less time.
02:35It's even tiny things to do.
02:38Something that could have taken you 15 minutes takes you longer than that.
02:42So you have to do it plus all the time that you spent thinking about it and worrying about it.
02:48And the amount of time something takes is not only the amount of time that you physically spend doing it,
02:54but it's the amount of time that you spend thinking about it.
02:57And the time remembering that you hadn't done it yet.
03:00Because you wake up and you remember it.
03:02You drive around and you remember it.
03:04You wait to cross the road and you remember it.
03:07You always try to stay safe and you remember it.
03:09You know, even if you're trying to relax, it still pops in your head again.
03:11And even a 10-minute problem can follow you around for a week.
03:18And at some point, doing the thing is easier than avoiding it.
03:23So if you want to...
03:24Okay, I'm not going to use this as a metaphor because I'm trying to protect myself.
03:28But if you want to sit at the road forever and know nothing's never going to change, then do it.
03:33But sometimes you've got to make something change.
03:36And you have to do it.
03:38Even if it's more comfortable to lay down.
03:40It's not, by the way.
03:41Sometimes you've got to stand up.
03:43That's why I have so much respect for people that have to do something and they just do it.
03:48Especially the little annoying things.
03:52Because sometimes you do genuinely need to think, sure.
03:56Sometimes waiting is the right decision.
03:58But there are so many things in your life that are just better by doing it right away.
04:02Including waking up.
04:04Including going to sleep instead of scrolling for hours.
04:08Which I do too.
04:09It's not a good habit.
04:11Because I think we usually know which one we're doing that's right and what's not.
04:15And if you're thinking, then you're getting closer to a decision, maybe.
04:18But if you're avoiding it, then you're just getting stuck in the same place.
04:27Because most of the times we know something will be better for our future.
04:30But we still rely on the comfort of today.
04:33And a lot of the greatest athletes, greatest minds, greatest everything.
04:38They did it when it was uncomfortable.
04:41They did it when it was harder.
04:42They did it when they woke up not feeling like doing it.
04:45Sometimes you just truly have to be disciplined.
04:47And realize that if you have a dream, a future that you want to build, it comes at the cost
04:52of comfort.
04:53It comes with you being disciplined.
04:57And if you play sports, hopefully you understand this.
05:00I played Division I golf.
05:01That came from countless hours of work where I didn't want to do it.
05:07I got into good college because I got good grades in school my whole life.
05:10That comes from disciplined work.
05:11And you have to understand that you locking in on that assignment will benefit your future.
05:15If you're at work, you locking in on that report that has to do that will benefit your future.
05:22And a lot of bad situations are built from decisions that felt harmless individually.
05:28The cost only becomes obvious.
05:31Once enough time passes.
05:33And you'll look back and wonder how something so small became such a huge problem.
05:37How many times have you had something you should have told someone and you're just like,
05:40It's not that important or it's not that big of a deal.
05:42Guess what?
05:43It became huge later.
05:44You just got to be honest.
05:45I learned that.
05:46Maybe even the hard way.
05:47I lost enough people in my life to realize that honestly, honesty wins.
05:54Being open wins.
05:56Being communicative wins.
06:02And I hope that you don't learn that the hard way.
06:10Not everything in your life is going to be easy.
06:12No matter how much you do.
06:14No matter what kind of person you are, you'll still have hard decisions.
06:19You'll still have times where you need to be the better person.
06:21You'll still have times where you're worried things are going to fall and you just need
06:23to pick them up.
06:31There will always be things you need to do.
06:35There will always be something you don't want to work on.
06:37There will be an email or a text you don't want to open.
06:39There will be a conversation you don't want to have.
06:41There will be a decision that you don't want to make.
06:43But you can't control all that.
06:45We can control how long you sit there letting it get more expensive.
06:54And maybe you're watching this and you've been avoiding something for a long time.
06:58But think about it.
06:59You're still able to watch the video tone now.
07:01Which only 3% of people will watch at the end of the video.
07:04And if you can lock in and really watch that, then you can lock in on what needs to be
07:08done.
07:09Because you can't fix your whole life, but you can fix everything that needs to be fixed
07:13one time at a time.
07:15Some problems are complicated.
07:17Some things you need to think about.
07:20But I promise you, you can do something right after this video that makes today more productive.
07:25That makes the problem cheaper instead of more expensive.
07:30You can always get back to someone.
07:31You can always finish one assignment.
07:34Whatever your passion or hobby is, you can always spend 15 more minutes on it.
07:38You know, imagine if you spent 15 minutes reading a book and still in the next 15 minutes scrolling.
07:45And most of what you see on social media will not benefit your future.
07:49And that's why I try to be a change in the world.
07:50It's my dream to put some positivity and hope in good messages out there.
07:54Because a lot of what you see truly is brain rot.
07:57A lot of what you see on social media truly does not benefit your future.
08:00So I try to say a message that motivates someone.
08:02It really does help your future.
08:03So if you're still watching, I really appreciate it.
08:06Because I hope this gives you that push to really start paying attention to what you are consuming.
08:12Because what you consume is what you become.
08:13My favorite quote ever for the last decade is,
08:16Everything in your life is a reflection of your standards.
08:20So look around at you right now.
08:22Look at your practice.
08:23Look at your school or job, whatever.
08:26If something there isn't as good as you want,
08:29then maybe you have to raise your standards.
08:32And twin, there is nothing comfortable about that.
08:35But I promise you that the harder you work today,
08:37the more you will appreciate it later.
